However, to do this requires a frequency over ride to be set allowing the client to ignore the set frequency instead providing text entry into a text box. Into this box the name of the voice room needs to be entered to enable voice communication. A voice room is typically in the form of "some.server.org/<Airport ICAO>". The server component is ALWAYS "rw1.vatpac.org". So this week's departure would use "rw1.vatpac.org/<Airport ICAO>".
For airports without an airport ICAO it is typical to use VATPAC VFR Virtual voice room acccessed using 131.25 in FSINN. The equivalent for SWIFT is "rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr".

TOWNSVILLE VFR PROCEDURES
Townsville is a class C civil and military aerodrome and is located in close proximity to high terrain. An excellent source of information for Townsville VFR operations inbound and outbound can be found in CASA's "Ontrack" Online Reference Resource. Pilots unfamiliar with Townsville Operations are encouraged to visit the site and review available information (video is very informative) prior to operating within Cairns.

On Friday 12th July 2019, projectFLY along with ORBX will be running a GA group flight event along our East Coast from 1200z to 2000z, featuring airports YSTW, YPQM, YCNK, YWOL, YSCB. This event is focused at VFR and GA traffic and is likely to gain a lot of traffic from our international VATSIM users.
It is requested that we can fill the ATC positions for the flight.
These positions include:
TW_GND
TW_TWR
SY_APP
CB_APP
CB_TWR
CB_GND
BN-MDE_CTR
ML-WOL_CTR

While the time is late for alot of us Aussie controllers this will not go unrewarded. For ATC and pilots alike there will be giveaways and prizes to be won from ORBX.
For more information as well as T&C off the giveaway please visit https://mettarsim.com/2019/07/05/projectfly-group-flight-july-2019/

Thankyou and I hope to see you all there.

Event Details

Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight.
Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations.
Distance : 250 nm
Est Flight Time : approx 90 mins
Aircraft : Single or twin turboprob engine aircraft such as PC12, Beechcraft King Air or similar capable of 210 to 250 kias (limited below A10,000).
Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields.
FSCopilot/FSInn
VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link.

Swift
Swift is a recent VATSIM Pilot Client alternative now released to the public as a beta release candidate. This pilot client is a one fits all alternative and will work with FSX, P3D V3/V4 and XPlane in either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux. This client, once installed and configured (not for the faint of heart - some guidance can be found in this video tutorial for those with X-Plane on Windows x64), also provides a capability for pilots to designate a private voice channel to allow communication with other pilots in the same voice channel.
Altitude : Not above FL125

Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

Welcome to the next installment of Newbie Night. This event offers the chance for inexperienced members to join experienced aviators and controllers and take to the virtual skies. Whether you're completely new to flight simulation or you've been flying for years but never connected to the VATSIM network, this is the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord. To Join the Discord visit this link.

      Event Details:
Fly between Adelaide (YPAD) and Melbourne (YMML) in either direction to experience Class C and enroute airspace, with a bit of time to relax in cruise and enjoy the scenery. This flight is for:
Newbie pilots who want to learn and gain confidence flying on the VATSIM network with live ATC. Experienced controllers who are patient and willing to help newbie pilots on the network. Experienced pilots who are patient and willing to assist newbie pilots through the VATPAC Discord. Flights will depart from 0800z (1800 AEST) with ATC requested/available until around 1200z (2200 AEST).
We recommend planning to depart before 1030z (2030 AEST) to complete your flight with full ATC.

      Tutorials:
This site has tutorials (see Help > Tutorials in the menu) which give an overview of flight and ATC procedures.  An example of procedures between Class C airports in a radar environment can be found here: https://vatpac.org/help/pilot-tutorials/ifr-melbourne-to-sydney/

      Routes:
We recommend using the following routes which are suitable for a jet such as an Airbus A320, Boeing 737, regional jet or business jet, or a turboprop such as a Dash-8, ATR 72, Saab 340 or King Air.
      YPAD-YMML:
Jet: DCT AD V255 BENDO Y12 ARBEY H119 ML DCT
Nonjet: DCT AD V255 BENDO V211 PUBAP W291 WENDY V279 ML DCT
      YMML-YPAD:
Jet and nonjet: DCT ML H345 AD DCT

      Charts:
If you do not have charts they are available here: https://vats.im/pac/charts

      ATC:
Controllers interested in controlling the event are encouraged to submit their ATC Applications here. Applications will remain open until three days before the event (08MAY24), after which the roster will be released and available for viewing. Please keep in mind that slot availability will be dependent on the number of applications. Non-standard positions (marked with *) can be opened in accordance with the Activation of Non-Standard Positions NOTAM.

GPS flight plan is available for FSX/P3D .pln, MFS2020 .pln, X-Plane .fms and Little Navmap.
Navigation: Pilots are encouraged to navigate visually. For those less familiar the GPS flight plan is the recommended method of navigation.
      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.
