Welcome to the latest VATPAC Iron Mic attempt featuring Melbourne. Help us celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Milk Run Monday with our week of events, including an Iron Mic attempt!

The following positions will be the primary positions:

ML_TWR
ML_APP
ML-SNO_CTR

To give us the best chance possible, please logon to the above positions at Melbourne prior to occupying others. We will be trialling a reservation system where you'll be able to allocate your availability for a position in two hour blocks. If there isn't anyone online however, please jump on!

What is Iron Mic?
Iron Mic is a weekly competition that VATSIM holds to recognizes the positions with the most hours logged on the network. It is broken into 3 categories; TWR, APP and CTR. The position in each category that logs the most online hours over a 7 day period wins the Iron Mic.
Iron Mic runs from 0000z on Monday to 2359z on Sunday (0859 Monday AEDT)
How do we know about our progress?

Click on this link (http://fsmine.dhis.org/stats/showstats.cgi) to view all the VATSIM ATC stats for the week.

Remember, Our aim is to keep the TWR, APP and CTR positions open as much as possible. Coordinate with other controllers to ensure maximum coverage of the Melbourne positions. You can do this via Facebook, Discord and the forums.

VATSIM has set out a few rules regarding Iron Mic which can be viewed here https://forums.vatsim.net/topic/2299-the-rules/

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome to day six of VATPAC's week long event extravaganza as we celebrate the 10 Year Anniversary of Milk Run Monday! Do you ever get sick and tired of flying in a B737 at 35,000ft not exploring all that amazing scenery that is hidden below the clouds? VATPAC Invites members of the VATSIM Community to try something different, flights in and around the beautiful Southern Tip of Australia!
Fly from either Moorabbin, Avalon, Essendon, or Canberra in your favourite GA or Regional prop aircraft, with Full ATC Services from 0800z - 1100z.

Event Info:
GA Madness focuses on the smaller side of aviation. It's designed to test a controller’s limits with high workload into small airports, with VFR and IFR aircraft. GA Madness focuses on class D airports and this time we’ll be focusing on the GA aicraft within the Melbourne TMA; Moorabbin, Avalon and Essendon!
In order to entice more traffic into the Melbourne TMA, Services will be provided at Albury and Canberra for the duration of this event.

Charts for all aerodromes can be found here;

Melbourne VTC:
If you are looking to fly VFR or IFR OCTA within the Melbourne control zone, take a look at the Melbourne VTC for information about airspace boundaries and layouts.

Expect delays as we try and accommodate everyone whilst maintaining separation standards! We look forward to seeing you all there!

By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

Welcome to the next instalment of Spilled Milk Run Monday! This week we are heading to the tropical north (Darwin & Broome) to trial out your aircraft in the tropics!
Traffic for these events tends to build at around 6PM AEST and tends to peek from 8-9PM AEST. ATC Positions will be scarce! Float around the discord if you are available to control and we may even open some Non Standards

Routes:
YPDN - YBRM: DN J151 CIN J93 BRM
YBRM - YPDN: BRM J93 CIN J151 DN

Controllers:
Prefer to control during the event? We recommend logging on from 0600z as positions often scares so worth being an early bird. Remember there are non-standard positions that can be opened should you be looking to join in on the fun (see a C3 or Senior Staff Member for authorisation to open them!!!) - Non-Standard Positions are noted with * beside the callsign.

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.
