By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

VATPAC invites you to a new event based on a previous spin-off - The Transcon Shuttle. Whether you like doing a 4.5hr hop, or a 2hr hop - This event will cater for your needs! Provide passengers the opportunity to move from around the country to the tropical north! Fly from Perth International Airport (YPPH), Adelaide International Airport (YPAD) or Brisbane International Airport (YBBN) inbound for Cairns Airport (YBCS). Expect full ATC services for your trans-continental flight as you all hurdle your way towards Cairns to top up the city with passengers!

Event Details:
Transcon Shuttle is a new event designed to provide pilots with the opportunity to receive full ATC services as they cross the country from nominated departure locations, inbound chosen arrival aerodromes. This event was created after the tremendous feedback we received about our Transcon Panic Stations event that was conducted last year.
This round, we have provided you with three departure aerodromes with different flight times ranging from 4.5 -> 2hrs in length all inbound one arrival aerodrome. This event is designed to provide pilots with the opportunity to explore the country from three different locations, travel across the country, and arrive into one concentrated arrival aerodrome. Controllers get the opportunity to control new and exciting locations with larger levels of traffic, and create a sequence inbound to the arrival aerodrome.

Departure Window:
For each of the departure aerodromes, a 2 hour controller block has been rostered to provide ATC services to departure aircraft. You are recommended to depart during this time to arrive into Cairns during the arrival period. The rostered time for all aerodromes is below:
Perth: 0400z - 0600z Adelaide: 0500z - 0700z Brisbane: 0600z - 0800z Cairns: 0700z - 1100z
Routes:
VATPAC recommends the following routes from the three departure aerodromes. Pilots are welcome to fly from other locations such as Hamilton Island or Sydney inbound to Cairns if they so wish!!!

YPPH - YBCS | 4.5 Hour Flight:
ROUTE: AMANA Y31 KARAB Y69 AS J64 NONUM

VATPAC invites you to a Real Operations event featuring Sydney as the host airport. Fly into or out of Sydney inbound many of the locations the aerodrome services on a daily basis. Whether you prefer a 1 hour hop with multiple sectors, or a long hall either starting or ending with full ATC, this event is for you!
What is real ops?
Sydney Real Ops is a major event hosted within VATPAC's airspace on the VATSIM Network. The aim of this 8 hour event is to closely replicate and simulate the real schedules of Sydney airport.
Given the unprecedented circumstances that surround us, Sydney Airport's traffic levels have significantly decreased, however we have been able to secure schedules prior to COVID-19.
This year we have decided to open and dedicated 8 hours of full time controlling to capture the peak arrivals and departures for Sydney, we have based these slot times on a typical weekday schedule.
This year we have been blessed with the knowledge from some of our community members on how YSSY operates both on paper and in practice.
With this knowledge we are able to create a simulated environment that almost mimics real world operations.
How does it work?
To simulate Sydney's real world environment we have carefully laid out slot times for Pilots to book, these slot times are replicated to the best of our ability given the current set of circumstances.
A pilot will need to secure their slot prior to logging onto the network, if a Pilot decides to logon to the network without a slot they will need to contact Sydney Coordinator to secure a spare slot, if a pilot is inbound from another Airport into Sydney you will receive slot information from the Flow Controller.

Event Details:
Real Ops Sydney is designed to allow pilots and controllers the ability to receive full ATC service as they transition in and out of the busiest airport in the country. Fly either domestically or internationally as you hurtle your way to/from the airport! The possibilities are endless.
Throughout this event, ATC will be tasked at keeping appropriate separations standards whilst pilots move about the TMA and ground joining the arrival and departure streams. The challenge is to keep Sydney busy for the entire event! and we can only do that with heaps and heaps of pilots!

All VATPAC, VATNZ and Visiting Controllers may apply for a position to control at this event, we intend on splitting the 8 hours into 2-3 shifts depending on the traffic load and ATC applications. To apply for ATC please visit the link below.
Apply for ATC here!
Dependent on the number of ATC Applications will ultimately persuade the number of controller positions that are eventually published and rostered. Positions that are planned to be rostered are below.

Winter has returned to the Southern Hemisphere, and even as the nations of the South Pacific begin their recovery, the region's skies are eerily quiet.
But on VATSIM, pilots from around the world will once again pack Oceania's skies as they continue their mission to Cross the Ditch!

What's it all about?
For twenty hours this June, the skies over the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand will be filled with aircraft all on a mission to Cross the Ditch.
An example of that typical down-under understatement, this "ditch" is over 1100nm wide. The flight routes all range from three to four-and-a-half hours flight time.
Throughout the event, the Oceania region's two divisions – VATNZ and VATPAC – will be providing full ATC coverage, in the Southern Hemisphere's premiere oceanic event.
This is a great opportunity to experience Oceanic flying without the need to commit to an eight-hour flight!
If you're new to Oceanic Flying, our reporting tool makes taking part a breeze.

Event Times
This twenty hour event is timed to allow pilots from all over the world join the fun:
UTC: Saturday 20th June 2020 18:00 - Sunday 21st June 2020 14:00 AEST: Sunday 21st June 2020 04:00 - Monday 22nd June 2020 00:00 NZST: Sunday 21st June 2020 06:00 - Monday 22nd June 2020 02:00
Waves
This season's event is organised in waves. Each airport will have a two-to-four hour departure window, during which time flights will be able to leave for the next destination. As the window closes, the departure window will open at the next destination.
Given each of the flights is 2 - 4.5hrs in length, the previous wave's flights will be arriving at the same airport as the next wave departs, maximising the amount of traffic at each airport.
NOTE: in order to ensure that you have ATC coverage throughout your flight, you MUST fly the wave route that is active at the time of your departure.
The individual routes are designed to ensure as much opposing traffic enroute as possible.
Each flight passes from one Oceania division to the other, and the result is six mini-flyins over the course of twenty hours!
The Waves for Cross the Ditch 18 - Winter 2020 are:
Wave Flight Departure Window UTC AEST NZST 1 Auckland, New Zealand (NZAA) to
Port Vila, Vanuatu (NVVV) 1800-2000 0400-0600 0600-0800 2 Port Vila, Vanuatu (NVVV) to

Travel between Cairns, Hamilton Island, Mackay, Rockhampton and Brisbane with the expectation of full ATC Services from 0700z - 1100z

What is Light Up Queensland?
This event revolves around one of our older events (Regionals and Twins) with the idea being to provide ATC services to more regional locations around the country. Lets be honest, our coastal towns don’t get the love like the big cities do, so lets change that! Travel to those often forgotten destinations and provide controllers and pilots alike a different challenge. A challenge to fly into a unfamiliar location and try an approach other than the famous ILS approach.

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.

It’s the end of the month and Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This week we are taking you from New Zealand, to Australia as we commemorate those who shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.
Fly from Wellington (NZWN) to Canberra (YSCB) and Sydney (YSSY) with full expectations of ATC Services throughout your flight!
Please Note: Depart NZWN between 06-09z. Arrival ATC will be online from 08-12z in Australia!

      Routes:
We recommend the following routes between Wellington, Canberra and Sydney.
NZWN - YSCB: TANEN M636 SASRO M636 PLUGA DCT RAZZI
NZWN - YSSY: TANEN M636 PLUGA RIKNI N774 MARLN

      Flying in Oceanic Airspace:
Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air. Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by Oceanic ATC.
All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio"
One of the significant differences between radar and oceanic flying is the need for position reports.
Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them.
      The standard format is:
Current/Previous waypoint name and the time you crossed that point. Current Flight Level Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, Flight Level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next."
You can use the Oceanic Reporting Tool to help construct oceanic position reports.
Find more information regarding Oceanic Procedures here.

      Controllers:
Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
