It's last minute but with such a fast changing real world environment, we need to move quickly to keep up! Welcome back to VATPAC's newest event series, Friday Night Live!

We're bringing you some Friday Night Entertainment that the pubs and clubs can't! Visit a new location or perhaps an old favourite, the possibilities are endless.

This Week

This week, we're visiting Radelaide! You'd be forgiven for thinking you're in Melbourne with a high of 16 and showers tomorrow. Adelaide is providing the weather and the ATC so come along and support the community

We're looking to staff up Adelaide first but available, we'd love to see Parafield and Edinburgh activated to join in on the fun!
Non Standards will be opened on a case by case basis by a Senior Staff member in accordance with the policy.

The event won't have specified start or end times as the purpose of this event is to bring all of our ATC together to provide a highly realistic experience! There'll also be members of the training department around giving everyone tips and tricks on positions they may not have controlled before!

Come along and show your support!

Routes

There are two sources you can use to get routes from Adelaide to domestic destinations across Australia.
https://flightaware.com/ - You can search through real world flights and get the route from them here. Look for a day prior to the one being operated if the route doesn't show up for the latest day.

https://vatpac.org/pilots/pilot-tools/flight-planning/ - The VATPAC Flight Planning tool can provided limited information on routing however, should be checked for compliance with Jet/Non-Jet restrictions and currency.

This event begins 05/04/20 and repeats every week on Monday for 2 occurrences

By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

Backed by popular acclaim, the VATPAC Events Department invite you to join us in one of our most popular events that has been long overdue... Panic Stations... Whether you like flying a B717, B737, DH8D or C172, this event is for you!
Once again, we are putting a spin on the traditional event by double-dipping into the 'pot' of awards that we dish out, providing you with double the opportunity to win!!! Fly into Gold Coast (YBCG) or Brisbane (YBBN) with an expectation of full ATC services from 0700z - 1000z!

Event Details:
Panic Stations is a simple yet quite challenging event. Get as many aircraft flying to the destination airport as possible, with only one objective. Arrive at or after the target time to enjoy bragging rights... Well, until the next panic stations event, that is!
VATPAC is putting another spin on this popular event. Instead of only one arrival aerodrome, we will provide pilots with two possible airports to win the award, with both airports providing the traditional awards in both JET & NON-JET categories.
Available titles for people to win during this event;
JET & NON-JET Winner (YBCG) JET & NON-JET Winner (YBBN) Touch Down Time for this event is 0900z
Expect delays as we try and accommodate everyone whilst maintaining separation standards! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Routes:
VATPAC recommends the following routes to fly into Brisbane or the Gold Coast. These are only some of the possible departure points you could do - Scenery for these recommended routes can be found below.

This Week
In case you weren't available for the Panic Stations Fix, this week we're moving up the coast to sunny Bris-Vegas where we have just had major changes to the airspace. Where before the airspace was somewhat of a sensible, well-laid out airspace; we are left with what is literally a birds-nest of SIDs and STARs. Bring along your new Navigraph AIRAC to explore the changes. If you don't have one, you can get a Navigraph subscription here https://navigraph.com/SubscriptionOptions.aspx (FMS Data, Charts or both are available via subscriptions).
Please note ATC will not be assigning runway 19R/01L unless requested. This is due to the lack of updated scenery in some simulators and the fact the runway isn't open yet.
We also are highly encouraging anybody who would like to come and fly VFR in Class D (Archerfield – YBAF, and Sunshine Coast – YBSU), Class G (note the new airspace lower limits), or even Class C (fancy some city orbits?). Again, VATPAC staff will be present to answer any questions you might have.

Sorry for the last minute notice however, we recently received a request to run some ATC for a planned newbie night for some old and new VATPAC members. These experienced real world aviators are ready to take to the Virtual skies with ATC after conducting plenty of offline flying. We thought it was a great idea and want to invite everyone who is willing to share their knowledge or who wants to learn!
Whether you've been flying for years or never connected, it'll be the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord.

The Requirements:
- ATC who are willing to teach and have patience
- Pilots who are also patient but would love to share knowledge or learn something knew

This Week
This week, fly from Hobart to Adelaide and experience Class D Procedural airspace, enroute and Class C arrival airspace. The flight will depart around 1900 AEST with ATC requested/available from around 1830 AEST.
An example of departing a Class D Procedural aerodrome with a TWR is located here https://vatpac.org/pilots/tutorials/ifr-albury-to-melbourne/
Routes
VATPAC recommends the following routes to fly from Hobart to Adelaide. This route has been sourced from the ERSA Flight Planning Document https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/ersa/GUID_ersa-fac-2-2_21MAY2020.pdf.

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

You know it’s the end of the month when Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This Easter, we are bringing back the popular Easter Egg Hunt! On the 1st of April, depart Sydney in search of 3 easter eggs at three differrent airports inside the great state of New South Wales.
The first pilot to identify, fly to and land at each airport wins!
Hints for where these airports will be released on the VATPAC Discord.

      Edition Details:
The Idea of this Edition of Spilled Milk Run Monday is similar to the Easter Egg Hunt we did last year. From 0800z, one hint will be released every 30 minutes on the VATPAC Discord providing 3 different hints, one for each of the three different airport locations. Pilots then depart Sydney in search for the airports. Once a pilot lands at the airport they believe the Easter egg is at, they take a screenshot and post it in the VATPAC Discord's Event Channel. The first pilot to correctly land and take a screenshot at each airport wins!
Pilots and controllers must follow the relevant criteria below in order to be eligible to win a prize!

      Edition Details:
thanks to the generous donations of some of the VATPAC staff, there will be four prizes up for grabs during the Easter egg hunt. The prizes are as follows:
Pilots: 3 x  €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Vouchers - 1 per airport Controllers: 1 x €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Voucher - all eligible controllers will be added to a draw and randomly selected to win the prize. In order to be eligible to win one of the prizes pilots and controllers must follow the following procedures:
      Pilots:
All pilots must depart Sydney (YSSY) and remain online and connected for the duration of the flight Pilots must not use any sim rate enhancement at any time. Doing so will automatically result in disqualification. Pilots must follow all controller instructions and not take purposeful shortcuts or refuse sequencing to try and shorten the duration of their flight. VATPAC events staff, senior staff and directors are not eligible to win pilot prizes. Pilots must not use high performance aircraft to reduce their flights duration. This includes fighter jets, high altitude / speed airliners such as the Concorde, or any other aircraft purposely chosen for an unrealistic speed advantage. Upon arrival at the chosen airfield, pilots must post a screenshot on the VATPAC discord #events channel showing their simulator, and a tracking software (Volanta, Simaware) with the flight plan showing the whole flight and tag an event coordinator. Pilots are only eligible to receive one (1) prize. Pilot can only depart Sydney once the first hint is released. All flights to correct airports will be closely tracked by Event Coordinators. If a member of the events team believes your flight was not in observance of the above criteria, or that you had any form of unfair advantage, they may deem you ineligible to receive a prize.

      Controllers:
All rostered and unrostered controllers who contributed for at least one hour will be considered for the prize Controllers not active for the duration of their rostered period (without a valid excuse) will be ineligible for the draw Controllers who already received a pilot prize will not be eligible for the draw At the close of the event the winners of each category will be announced.

      Controllers:
Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
      BN-ARL_CTR ML-YWE_CTR ML-BIK_CTR
SY_APP SY_TWR SY_GND SY_DEL *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the Standard positions are filled. Please see a member of Staff, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorized.

This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 3rd April 2024 takes us to the Caribbean flying an island hop from Point-a-Pitre in French Gaudeloupe (TFFR) to the famous Princess Juliana Int'l in the Netherland Antilles (TNCM).
Highlights will be two of the most dangerous airfields in the world, Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) on St Barthelemy Island with a very steep arrival and the other being Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport on the island of SABA which is only 400 metres in length.
Approaches in to Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) can use either rwy 10 (left hand pattern) or rwy 28 (also left hand pattern). The arrival using rwy 10 is very steep which makes it quite dangerous. NB: rwy 28 can only be used for full stop arrivals so any T&G's will have to use rwy 10, the steep one). Airport is open to all traffic however note aircraft type required. Refer link for details.
Approaches into SABA (TNCS) can use either rwy 12 (Lefthand pattern) or Rwy 30 (Right hand pattern). Runways both have an “X” at each end however this just represents the fact that the airport is closed to all but specific licenced traffic. Refer link for details.
