Hi everyone,

 

With the recent announcements, we are now seeking applications from VATPAC members to apply for the Director of Information Technology position, VATPAC6.

 

VATPAC6 - Director of Information Technology

 

The Director of Information Technology, is taked with leading and developing the strategic IT plan for VATPAC. This may involve leading a small team of people through performing various IT duties, but also may involve personally performing IT tasks, of which some may be of a very time critical nature, due to the nature of their impact on the service delivery of VATPAC.

 

The IT Director will be tasked with the ongoing development of the VATPAC website, ensuring that the website is modern, dynamic and a tool which effectively promotes VATPAC to the wider community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

? Participation in and leadership of relevant discussion within the VATPAC Forums

? Liaise with other directors as appropriate

? Forumulate an IT Strategy

? Lead a working group in the implementation of the IT plan

? Respond to changing needs of VATPAC, ensuring that the IT strategy remains relevant in a changing environment.

 

 

As a full-voting VATPAC Board role, the general expectations of all Directors also applies:

 

? Contribute constructively to the ongoing development and improvement of VATPAC for all members

? Attend periodic VATPAC Board meetings to report on operational issues

? Maintain a regular on line presence on the VATSIM Network, controlling, flying, observing.

? Perform VATPAC Forum moderation

? Actively and constructively participate in Staff Forum discussions

? Maintain a presence on the VATPAC forums, particularly in discussion pertaining to areas of responsibility within their directorship

? Keep abreast of VATSIM news and issues impacting their directorship

 

Time Commitment

It is estimated that the minimum time commitment would be in the vicinity of five - ten hours per week, however it is noted that being able to respond to urgent circumstances, or ensuring that an appropiate support team is in place, is an important if not critical part of the role.

 

Requirements of role

The successful candidate will meet the following minimum requirements:

 

  • Have an in depth understanding of VATPAC/VATSIM issues
  • Be experienced in the involvement of clubs, groups or online organisations
  • Posses very strong communication skills
  • Be a member of VATPAC
  • Be in good standing with VATSIM

 

In addition - due to the technical nature of the role, knowledge/experience of as much of the following would be advantageous:

  • Experience with PHP & HTML
  • Experience with SQL Databases (Import, Export, and Modifications via external programs)
  • Experience with CMS systems including module design and implementation.
  • Experience with server based security software.
  • Previous website hosting and/or System administration experience
  • File editing, File Administration, FTP & Mail Servers and Forum maintenance

Please also state what your plan for the next 12 months with IT would be, and how this would improve VATPAC. Also outline your experience with the above knowledge/experience features of the role Applications must be received on or before 2359 AEST, Sunday 27nd September.

Applications will be received and reviewed by an Appointment Committee and will remain in confidence to the VATPAC Board and the appointments committee.

 

 

This is a opportunity to give a great contribution to VATPAC, through being able to have direct hands on role on how the division is run.
