Rob H - 811428
VATSIM Global Ratings & VATPAC Implementation Introduction VATSIM EC today announced a NEW global ATC ratings structure to ensure a standardised, consistent progression for controllers across all divisions. Under the new proposal, controller ratings will be aligned with specific ATC services as per the following table: Current Rating - Service Name Student (S1) - Tower Controller Senior Student (S3) - Approach Controller Controller (C1) - Centre Controller Senior Controller (C3) - Senior Controller VATPAC Implementation VATPAC will be progressively implementing amended ratings in the lead up to the VATSIM 'full implementation' date of 01JAN08. Further details relating to each individual rating will be announced as the rating is launched. Controllers will be encouraged to familiarise themselves with the amended rating corresponding to their existing rating but will not be required to undertake any formal training activity to retain their rating. After the VATSIM cut-over date the following controller rating requirements will apply: Unit - Minimum required rating Clearance Delivery (DEL) - Tower Controller Ground (GND) - Tower Controller Tower (TWR) - Tower Controller Approach (APP) - Approach Controller Departure (DEP) - Approach Controller Centre (CTR) - Centre Controller Oceanic (FSS) - Centre Controller + Oceanic Endorsement (/O) Existing Controllers - What does this mean for me? Student: No changes. If you hold a Student (S1) rating then this will transfer automatically into the new Tower Controller rating. The existing restriction of DEL, GND and TWR only still applies. Senior Student: If you hold a Senior Student (S3) rating and have used it as CTR in the last twelve (12) months then you will be automatically promoted to the new Centre Controller rating by the cut-over date. You can continue to control all CTR and TMA units just like you can today. Those with a Senior Student rating not having recent CTR experience (logged into CTR in last 12 months) will remain on Senior Student (S3) and, under the new scheme, classified as an Approach Controller. Controller: If you hold a Controller (C1) rating then this will transfer automatically into the new Centre Controller rating. You can continue to control all CTR and TMA units just like you can today. Controllers who have already completed the ?advanced ATC course? may be eligible for promotion to Senior Controller (C3) ? these will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Senior Controller: If you hold a Senior Controller (C3) rating then there are no changes. Andrew C - 812404
A reminder to all controllers that the changes to VATSIM Global ratings become effective on 1 January 2008. The full text VATSIM announcement is available here. Please (re)read the VATPAC announcement above to familiarise yourself with the changes. Senior Students will be subject to a rating change in order to maintain their current ATC privileges. We will endeavour to have these processed by 1 January 2008; however please hold off until at least the end of that day before contacting Training to query your rating. These changes are being manually processed, so any errors or omissions should be directed to [email protected].
