Thunder Down Under II features three locations around Australia operating as ATC centres, staffed by VATPAC members providing continuous ATC coverage for 29 hours Australia-wide. Thunder Down Under pioneered the the ATC Centre concept back in 2000, with several VATPAC members hosting a modest air traffic centre in an office in Sydney. Over the past year, VATPAC has featured three centre events - OZtravagaNZa, Southern Storm and Flywest LIVE! all of which have been an outstanding success. This year, it gets even bigger, with Melbourne, Perth and Sydney hosting ATC Centres for local VATPAC members to control from during the event. Some positions will also be made available to off-site participants, with final details of coverage and positions being released in the week prior to the event. Thunder Down Under II blasts off on Friday 6 May at 0900z/1900 AEST and runs until Saturday 7 May at 1400z/2400 AEST, so clear your diary! The Thunder Down Under II website will be progressively updated leading up to the event and outline requirements for on-site ATC participation and pilot resources.
