Hello All,

As most will be aware WorldFlight is due to commence on Sunday 6th November 2016 departing Sydney for Queenstown and returning to VATPAC airspace on the following Saturday via Alice Springs, Melbourne, Hobart, and Canberra.

VATPAC fully supports this major event and subsequently encourages all members to participate either by flying, controlling or attending WorldFlight HQ or one of the other official WorldFlight teams located around Australia, and donating their time and hard earned money to their worthy cause.

Air Traffic Control (WorldFlight HQ)

As per previous years VATPAC controllers will have the opportunity to supply ATC services from WorldFlight HQ in Sydney.  Anyone wishing to attend WorldFlight HQ and offer their services as a Controller should contact the WorldFlight ATC Coordinator at worldflightatc at gmail dot com to register their interest. The dedicated ATC rooms at WorldFlight HQ cater for both VRC and Euroscope users.

Air Traffic Control (Other Australian Official WorldFlight Sims)

There may also be the possibility of providing ATC services from other official WorldFlight team sites. This will depend entirely on availability and further details will be published closer to the event.

Air Traffic Control (From Home)

Approximately 4 weeks prior to the event expressions of interest will be called from those members wishing to control from home.  These are very limited after the positions are allocated at WorldFlight HQ.  All controllers not allocated a position at the departure/arrival airport or enroute sectors will be allocated surrounding sectors and airports.  This will reduce the workload on the Controllers concentrating on the WorldFlight aircraft and your help is not only appreciated but necessary.  Please do not apply for a position if you are not willing to accept any position allocated.  As one could imagine the pressure of delivering a quality service to the pilots that participate in this event is without a doubt extremely difficult due to the high volume of traffic and only those members serious in delivering a quality service should apply.  Applications will close 2 weeks prior to the event. Applications to control from home should be directed to operations at vatpac dot org.

Please Note:  VATPAC Members that attend WorldFlight HQ will be given preference on some VATPAC positions due to their commitment and donations to the charities.  Remember this event is to raise money for the charities so please understand why this procedure is in place.  Without the support and donations from the Controllers at WorldFlight the event would not be as successful as it is.

Pilots

It is critical for pilots to have all the required charts and files available for their flights.  As you will understand ATC will be under extreme pressure to facilitate a smooth departure and arrival for all the participating members so the more you know about what is expected then the easier it will be for them.  This, in turn, will reduce the amount of time that pilots are required to hold or be delayed.  That being said everyone should expect a delay of up to one hour during the busier times and if this is too extensive for you then we suggest that you plan your departure earlier or later depending on your circumstances.  A NOTAM will be provided in the weeks before the event explaining what is required and is a must read for all.

Observers

Members are welcome to observe WorldFlight activities at WorldFlight HQ although prior permission must be obtained via the WorldFlight ATC Coordinator using the email above.

Online observers using either an ATC or Pilot client are reminded that they should not contact any Controller or Pilot as they will more than likely be too busy to answer you.  Please keep your communications restricted to other observers only by use of the Private Message facility.

Touch and Go on arrival back at Sydney

When the WorldFlight crews returns home they normally conduct a touch and go at Sydney Airport.  This is for the invited WorldFlight Crews only that have contributed to the event and not for the general membership.  Please do not ask the controllers if you can participate as they will be too busy to deal with this type of request.

Disputes

Any issues or disputes that arise MUST be referred to VATPAC Staff.  At no time should a VATPAC Member contact any other member or the WorldFlight organisers in this regard.  You will appreciate there has to be one central area for this activity to ensure that decisions are made correctly.  This however does not preclude a member from contacting a VATSIM Supervisor for urgent help.  VATPAC will endeavour to have Directors and/or Operations Staff available for these issues while WorldFlight is in our Airspace.

For more information regarding WorldFlight including flight plans and schedules please go to their web site located at the following link.  http://www.worldflight.com.au

For any questions regarding VATPAC’s involvement in WorldFlight please e-mail either VATPAC Events at vatpac5 at vatpac dot org or VATPAC Operations at operations at vatpac dot org.

Thank you and enjoy.

  • 1 month later...

As WorldFlight creeps closer (only 70 more sleeps!), the cogs of WorldFlight admin have begun to turn.

I've received a couple of emails from people interested in controlling from WFHQ in Sydney and now is the time for you to register your interest.

Please shoot me an email to worldflightatc at gmail dot com to register.

Cheers,

Tracy
