vSTARS

Many of you will have seen the recent announcement of the release of vSTARS by Ross Carlson. Ross is also the developer of VRC and VatSPY. It is a great tool for controllers operating an approach facility in the USA. This is the only operational environment it is designed to function in.

VATPAC does not operate any approach facilities in the USA, therefore there is no application of vSTARS to our operating environment. As such we will not be devoting any effort to develop the quite significant resources that are required to produce the images on the screen to make the thing work. Think of it as akin to the effort to get extra beer on tap to the baseball fields hosting the World Series, only of benefit to us if we are visiting there.

By all means if you are a visiting controller at a US facility take the time to learn how to use it. But don't come to us for help, go to them. Think of it as asking the people at Yankee Stadium for a beer while you are watching the World Series, no point in heading to the Long Room at the MCG.

The XML data system is something we will observe with interest. If it becomes available in VRC or EuroScope we will investigate it fully.
