  3. Hi All,

On Wednesday 25th July 1012, myself and 6 of our Vatpac chaps flew in Japan and encounted ATC. Below is the letter I sent to VATJPN1 and his reply, luckily we were on our best behavior LOL...

    Regards, Peter Smith.

    Dear Sir,

On Wednesday 25th July 2012 at 1000[Zulu] myself and 6 other Vatpac pilots flew from Monbetsu [RJEB] to New Chitose [RJCC] with touch and goes’ at RJEC and RJCB. As we approached our destination at New Chitose we were delighted to have Tokyo Center come on line. Center contacted all of our pilots and gave us Squawk Codes etc,he then proceeded to vector us one by one to an ILS approach to 19R.

On behalf of all the other Pilots and Myself I would to thank this controller for his expertise and his welcome to Japan. Unfortunately ServInfo and VATSpy we not working so I could not get his Vatsim ID Number. If it is possible I would like you to pass this message onto this controller, we will be flying again soon in your region and I hope we can get your ATC again.

Regards, Peter Smith. YMA 7489[ ID.1016922]

    Hi Crew,

I would like to announce as from next week 1st August 2012, Aussie Flight Sim will change its name to VATPAC World Discovery Flights

This change will now give us greater exposure in the Flight Sim World by being regular event on the VATPAC web site and great coverage to the VATPAC and VATSIM community.

With this better exposure I am sure that will get more Online Pilots and ATC interacting with us on our flights. Our flights WILL NOT be restricted to Australia, so we will be able to fly anywhere in the world. The flights will commence on Wednesday 1st August at 1000Z – 8PM EST. Our TeamSpeak3 channel will still be the 'Daily Focus' room, and [rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr] will be our back channel in FSInn. Now that we will be flying World Wide in Discovery Flights there are tens of thousands of great locations for us to visit and enjoy, so if you have a special flight or location that you would to share with us just let me know.

I would like to thank James White, David Neil and the other chaps at VATPAC that have given me the assistance to make this new VATPAC flight.

Our first flight will be a Brazilian Flight with Default FSX Scenery, and not a tricky Navigation Flight, just a great scenic VFR flight. This will be posted on the VATPAC website tomorrow on the front page as well as in the calendar section.

    Regards, Peter Smith – YMA7489

    Hi Chaps,

Our flight this week takes us to Hokkaido the second largest island in Japan. We depart from Monbetsu head South West and over fly Mt Teshio [3,300ft] and on for a T&G at Asahikawa. From here we track SSE over Mt Tomuraushi [6,300ft] heaps of Volcanos in this region, and onto Obihiro for another T&G. Turning West we pass over Mt Poroshiri [5,100ft] and fly to our destination at New Chitose [sapporo].All of these airports have ILS Approaches, and if possible we should use them.

Good default scenery in this flight, but if you have Global 8-10 or other terrain mesh it will add to your enjoyment.

  6. Hi Chaps,

A flight with a bit of a twist. This is a Navigation Exercise where you need to use your instruments to work your way around the course. All necessary frequencies have been given to accomplish the course so think how you need to set them up then literally follow the needles (in the haystack). A flight plan will be advised to submit on the night otherwise it defeats the whole exercise of using instruments. The route crisscrosses in a couple of places so remember to check your altitudes re headings going East and West as other aircraft will be nearby somewhere along the route.

Good luck and enjoy the challenge. Rossco VH-RJF (P1)

COMMENT: Coloured so as to identify which gauges are used to show the direction to take for the respective frequencies in the exercise.

    Yellow Arrow – NDB

Green Arrow – VOR/DME use these on NAV 2 frequencies

Blue - NAV 1 (The HSI which is also used to line up the ILS approaches).

On landing at the end exit on to Taxi H this will be on the rightside. Follow Taxi H through to park near the Tower. You also have to cross Rwy 04L-22R so check and announce intention before crossing it as there may be other aircraft inbound on it.

Remember to also monitor and adjust your Altitude when East or Westbound as there will be other aircraft following the course to ensure separation.

    Great Flight Rossco,keep them comming.

  7. Hi Chaps,

Our flight this week finds us in in the Pyrenees Mountain Range. We depart from La Cerdanya [LECD] in Spain and head west into the Pyrenees Mountains crossing the border several times with T&G’s on the way to our destination at Pau/Pyrenees [LFBP]. The route that we are traveling is in reverse that the Tour de France is being staged in this area. Be advised that we have some high mountains to cross in this flight with a T&G at LFCB at an altitude at only 2000ft, choose an aircraft that will be suited. Great scenery in this area and if you have Global 8/10 or similar mesh it will add to your scenery enjoyment.

Have a good flight. Regards, Peter YMA7489 [email protected]

    Hi Chaps,

Our flight this week is AFS Flight No 31,”Not Bad For A Storm In A Teacup” LOL…

This flight has been created by Ross [VH-RJF ], attached is a comment made by the author.

Just another mundane relaxing flight in Unzud – I dunno why everyone seems to think my flights are going to be exciting…… LOL.

Not quite sure what he means, but we will find out.

Good work Ross, keep the flights coming.

  9. Hi Chaps,

Our Aussie Flight Sim flight this week takes us the North Island of New Zealand. We depart from Tauranda [NZTG] on the East Coast and follow the coast line North with T&G’s at NZWW, NZUN and NZAG. From hear we head West over to Coromandel [NZCX] for a Full Stop Landing, still heading in a Westerly direction out to NZRV. We now turn to the South and onto our destination at Ardmore [NZAR].

  10. Hi Chaps,

Our flight this week takes us Switzerland and departing from Geneva. From here we head for a T&G at Meythet, we now head over the mountains for a Full Stop Landing at Megeve. When runway is clear we now depart for Courchevel X for another Full Stop Landing. Note with these two airports it is impossible to do a T&G due to the terrain. After leaving Courchevel X we head to Challes-les-Eaux and then over fly and onto our destination at Aix-les-Bains in France.

This is not an easy flight I would advise you watch the Utube Link attached on a flight into and out of Courchevel in a Baron [Great Stuff], and you do a practice run on both airports.

For this flight it is a must that you have the correct scenery installed to get the best out of this great flight.

The Scenery is free Ware from FlightSim.Com and is only 3.70 MB. It is called Courchevel [altiports_alpesxv2], in this zip file there are 5 scenery files just install them into you add-on scenery files the usual way in the order of 0 to 4. When you open FSX Airports you will now see a new entry of Courchevel X, the old Courchevel Airport is now just a slope on a mountain.

  11. Hi Chaps,

This week’s flight is a little different, we fly from Sydney [YSSY] to Melbourne [YMML] IFR. We will be using David Neil’s [Newbie Night Flight Plan] departing from Sydney [YSSY] and following the route attached. I hope will have ATC at our departure airport to give us clearance etc, and coverage to our destination at Melbourne [YMML]. When I first flew this flight I was very nervous but at the completion of the flight I had the satisfaction that I had completed an IFR flight with ATC, great feeling and a must for all.

  12. Hi Chaps, [DATE CORRECTION: PLEASE CHANGE DATE TO 6TH JUNE]

Our flight this week takes us to Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is an unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the northeastern Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic and west of both the U.S. Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

Puerto Rico (Spanish for "rich port") consists of an archipelago that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and several small islands: Vieques, Culebra, Mona and numerous smaller islets.

We head south following the coast with T&G’s on our way to Patillas, from here we head North West over the mountain rangers to Adjuntas. We now turn to the North East up to Antonio/Nery/Juarbe Pol , and follow the coast to our destination at Luis Munoz Martin Intl. There are heaps of T&G’s to choose from on this flight.

  14. Hi Chaps,

Our flight this week takes us to Nepal in the Himalayan Mountains for a great scenic flight with a few challenging Airports for T&G’s and the most difficult at the destination. We depart from Kathmandu and head for our first T&G at Ramechhap then heading for our second T&G at Lamidada passing over Rumjatar. After leaving Lamidada fly to Tumlingtar for our last T&G. Now the fun starts track direct to Mount Everest and fly around the Peak on the Northern Side. From hear it’s up to you to find your way back and land at our destination at Lukla.

Note: I would recommend that you set your Weather as Fair, Season Summer and Time at Noon, otherwise you may not make it to our destination at Lukla.

Scenery and Mesh for this area is available in Payware as well as Freeware from various sites, but the Default Scenery in FSX is not bad. Good Luck Chaps!

Our flight this week finds us still in the South Island of NZ, with great scenery and with another challenge from the author Ross [VH-RJF]. We depart from Mt Cook [NZMC] and weave our way west with some points of interest in flight till we come to Franz Terminal Glacier. From here we follow the coast down with T&G’s on the way to Yates Point and up to our destination at Milford Sound. A great Scenic Flight Ross with a few white knuckle moments on the way, well done . Don’t forget chaps to download PlanG Visual Reporting Points New Zealand.

    Hi Crew,

This I think would have to be one of my most favorite flights. It departs from Mason Field just north of Southport and we fly only a few NM’s up to Tiger Moth Field and Heckfield. We then turn and fly out to Stradbroke Island for a look at the mines and then onto Morton Island to Baroco. After leaving Baroco we turn to the NE out to the Carrier Fleet for a T&G, “NOT EASY BUT YOU CAN DO IT”LOL. After we dry-off from a splash down turn back to Morton Island then back to the mainland and up to The Glass House Mountains. Turn south and fly to Caboolture for a T&G then onto our destination at Redcliffe. Feel free to do T&G’s at any of the airstrips, but watch for cross winds.

Note: We are in controlled airspace for all of this flight, so if any ATC Chaps could provide there services it would be greatly appreciated.

  19. Hi Chaps,

This week’s flight has been created by one of our younger Adrenalin Junkie's Ross Francis  [VH-RJF].It takes us from Page Mun [KPGA] in the USA to McCarran Int Las Vegas [KLAS] USA. The aircraft that Ross has chosen for this flight is a BAE Goshawk – T45C , a nippy little aircraft with great maneuverability and response required for a flight like this. In a nut shell we depart from Page and fly at low level at a speed of 300-350 KIAS up the Grand Canyon following the Colorado River with a few T&G’s on the way to our destination at Las Vegas.

Well that doesn’t sound too stressful, we should be able to go to The Pyramid Casino play a few slots and take in a show after this flight LOL.

Good flight and great challenge Ross, keep up the good work.

  20. Hi Chaps,

Back in the air again, wages sorted out lol.

This week’s flight finds us in the United Kingdom, departing from Liverpool heading in a South Easterly direction to Birmingham for a T&G. We then turn to the South and try to find and fly over the Rollright Stones on the border of Oxfordshire and Warwick Shire [hard to spot]. We then turn to the East and onto Luton and Stansted for T&G’s. After leaving Stansted we turn to South to Intersections D082W and D096A to line us up to London City Airstrip for a fly-over. Heading up the Thames we pass over the Millennium Dome and London Eye and on to our destination at Heathrow. Note we are in controlled airspace for most of this flight and we may get ATC on the way.

Attached are AFS Doc No15,AFS Route Map

Chaps if you have a flight that you would like to submit please just send me the particulars and I will set it up and return it to you for your approval and if ok I will post it out to all, and place it on the Vatpac Web Site.
