In collaboration with the Indonesia vACC, VATPAC is delighted to invite you to the Denpasar -> Perth Shuttle! Fly from Denpasar to Perth Airport with full ATC between 0500-1200z on the 20th of August 2022!

    What is a 'Shuttle' Event?

A shuttle event is where we invite pilots and controllers to fly from the defined departure airport, to the defined arrival airport with the expectation of full ATC along the way!

We invite you to depart from Denpasar Airport (WADD) between 0500z-0700z on the 20th of August 2022, bound for Perth Airport (YPPH), as we attempt to test our talented controlling team! Below you will find the recommended route between the two airfields, as well as information for your departure and arrival!

    Pilot Information:

VATPAC and Indonesia vACC recommend the following route when flying between Denpasar and Perth.

    WADD -> YPPH:
ROUTE: DCT MURAI G578 EGATU L514 REVOP Q38 PH DCT
DEPARTURE: MURAI 1C (RWY 09) or MURAI 1D (RWY 27)
ARRIVAL: JULIM 5(A for ILS/RNAV-Z/LOC/VOR; X for RNAV-X approach RWY 03 only; V for visual approach onto RWY 03/RWY 06)

Remember the departure slot for WADD is between 0500 - 0700z

    Departure From Denpasar:

Pilots departing from Denpasar can expect to depart from either RWY 09 or RWY 27, depending on wind direction and local operating procedures.

Click here to find all charts for WADD.
NOTE: You will need to create an account to access the AIP for Indonesia.

    Arrival Into Perth:

Upon Arrival into Perth Airport, pilots can expect the JULIM 5 STAR followed by a choice of RNAV, VOR, ILS, or VISUAL approach (Weather Permitting) to runways 03/06/21/24. ATC will assign the approach type nominated in the ATIS but you may request a different approach type if you are up for the challenge.

We ask that you are familiar with the approach type you select. If you are unfamiliar with these operations you can request vectors from the Approach controller to ensure you capture the localiser.

Click here to find all charts for YPPH.

    Flying in Oceanic Airspace:

Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air.
Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by oceanic ATC.

All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio", there is no "Melbourne Radio", so ML-IND_FSS is called "Brisbane Radio".

One of the significant differences between radar and Oceanic flying is the need for position reports.

Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are, relying on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them.

    The standard format is:

    • Current/Previous waypoint name and the time which you crossed that point.
    • Current flight level.
    • Mach number if assigned by ATC.
    • Your next waypoint and estimate for that point.
    • The waypoint after that.

For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, flight level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next."

You can use the Oceanic Reporting Tool to help construct oceanic position reports.

    Find more information here.

  3. We appreciate your concerns Pheonix. I would highly recommend creating a helpdesk ticket to pass any specific concerns on to the relevant department given you have mentioned an event which occurred on the network.

Further to that, any concerns you have while controlling on the network are always best sent to a Network Supervisor. Whether that be through the .wallop function or via an email.

  4. I personally don't think there is a way to trial this?

On the network, it is the controllers responsibility to be aware of the airspace they are assuming. Common courtesy would be to let people know that you have logged on. There's no way to *make* people conduct a handover, it's always up to the individual.

Further with client incompatibilities (vatSys internal voice co-ord incomp. with ES 3.1d) limiting coordination to either G2G txt or use of the Discord voice channels it gets a bit hairy.

Regardless though I'm happy to pass this feedback on to the team and get their thoughts.

VATPAC invites you to the next Real Operations event featuring Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport as the host. Fly in or out of Australia's busiest airport to a huge selection of locations the aerodrome services on a daily basis. Whether you prefer a quick city hop along the 'J-curve', a visit to our mates in New Zealand or a trip across the Pacific Ocean starting with or ending with full ATC, this event is for you!

    What is Real Ops?

Real Ops Sydney is a major event hosted within VATPAC's airspace on the VATSIM Network. This event aims to closely replicate and simulate the real schedules of Sydney Airport.

This year, we have changed the event duration to 5 hours, capturing the peak arrivals and departures for Sydney. Flight slot times are based on a typical weekend schedule offering the most accurate schedule possible.

We will provide documentation to help ensure the smooth operations of this event. This document will be released to the public in the final few days before the event.

    How does it work?

To simulate Sydney's real-world environment, we have carefully laid out slot times for pilots to book. These slot times are replicated from the real world to the best of our ability.

A pilot will need to secure their slot before logging onto the network, if a pilot decides to log onto the network without a slot they will need to contact Sydney Delivery to receive clearance which will be given based on an available slot. If a pilot is inbound from another airport into Sydney; they will be accommodated as best as possible.

    Event Details:

Real Ops Sydney is designed to allow pilots and controllers the opportunity to replicate the real world operations of Australia's largest airport. Fly either domestically or internationally as you hurtle your way to/from Sydney!

  6. That can be managed by the DEL controller provided that a event briefing is conducted.
I see no purpose in adding an extra position which can be managed by the DEL&GND controller(s) which does not provide an extra sense of realism or even support.

As I mentioned, I'm strongly against slots for this event; but I do not mind controlling the flow of aircraft outbound by means of using ground delays as this is the expectation for controllers anyway.

Assuming this event is singular direction, as long as wake turbulence time based separation of (2/3) minutes is maintained by the TWR controller then there should be no issues at all. Pilots can push simultaneous assuming that the GND controller understands when to hold aircraft and the TWR controller maintains separation standards

  7. I personally don't think slots makes a difference for this event. It would give you an expectation for traffic levels, but not assurance for traffic flow.
As we've seen a lot in slotted events, the majority of pilots are not on slots or were not slot compliant.

So in my opinion, a more manageable solution would be using time based separation at the holding point and having a really good ground controller who is patient and knows when to hold aircraft.

Maybe even running these events as single direction events as well, and closing the ADC/TCU at a certain time and roster it sort of WF/CTD style if the concern is aircraft departing with ETA is later than the end of the event.

  9. I believe vStrips integration is being worked on. There isn't any *official* external trip management system at the moment.
Generally, you would activate the aircraft after giving the airways clearance. You can add 'PUSH' or 'TAXI' to the shared field on the strips if you would like to or even cock the strips to indicate something significant.
