There’s multiple faults logged against YBBN in the XPlane Scenery Gateway, but even the newer scenery that does have the new runways in doesn’t work. I’ve been able to edit the default apt.dat file to add the runways and that seems to have worked but I haven’t  tested it properly yet. I’ll update this thread if I do find a workaround.

Odd, maybe retry installing CDG's YBBN scenery or better yet, shoot them an email?

A bit of info for this flight in case anyone was interested especially in replicating the real world flight.

VH-OEJ is the final QF 747 left in Australia. It is flying Sydney to LAX on 30 June, departing YSSY at 0930.

VH-OEJ was the second Wunala Dreaming 747, from 2003 to 2012. It was also the last 747 to be delivered to Qantas in 2003.

It also had the Socceroos 2014 livery and the 2016 Olympic Games livery.

Flew on Wunala Last year for NYE!

  3. Hi All,

    **Effectively immediately**

(If you have read the quarterly report you'll understand)

It gives me sadness to announce that Pacific link has concluded due to a lack of tfc and ATC.

When we set out to create this event we had the key focus of serving our smaller Pacific airports we control. But Alas, all things must come to an end eventually.

    All for now,

    Nick

What if there was an ATC booking system? An ATC goes to the site, and books themselves into a position of their choice, for example, Sydney Ground.  But, because Sydney Tower is unoccupied, they go by the "fill highest" rule and log onto tower.

A second ATC controller then can see in the booking tower is unclaimed, but ground is. They book tower, log on, and private message the tower to let them know they want to run tower ops. Tower, who already indicated they prefer to run ground, swaps to ground, and second ATC takes over tower.

Thus, both parties are doing what they want, while keeping to VATSIM protocol for times of smaller ATC numbers.

After typing it I realize I may have accidentally swerved the convo off topic, sorry about that.

Whilst that is a really good suggestion. It wouldn't work practically only because vatpac trains from S2 onwards, making it redundant to do something like a booking system. (I.e. VATME HQ) Stuff like that generally only works for larger divisions or busier airspace such as Europe or Asia.

Why would this be a deterrent?

    1. It helps the future controllers get use to their client of choice
    2. Gets phraseology into them even before they are started
    3. They can get hands on advise and ask questions if they don't understand what the controller is doing

If people come in and don't understand anything wether it's their radar client or even how to connect that takes me time away from Mentors/Instructors when they could be doing other things like progressing with the student further or even real life activities. This can help shorten the lines of people waiting if the trainee's already has some knowledge which is better than none.
If you were a mentor and had trained people before you would know first hand the amount of time teaching someone a radar client takes out of the whole session. This can even range longer if it's a client like Euroscope.

Very well said! @Tristan Garratt in addition, it not only sorts out those who are lazy and don't have the willpower but also it serves as a challenge (I guess?)

Thinking about it, yes I've noticed that. I spent a few moments thinking about it, and realised from January, activity goes down, then just after Christmas, everything spikes up again... Thoughts?

Hence what I'm getting at here.

There is a strong correlation between time of year and traffic for mrm

Correct. You can notice the drop happening in late 2017 to early 2018.

Well what is the difference? How would we be able to bring a sense of that community to the current community??

Tristan, not sure you've seen but, for some people life has changed whether it be school, work or lifestyle. Hence why there has been a decline in numbers. I.e. our favorite BOE777 has not been on this year due to study commitments for his HSC (I think it was) and me who has been busy with VCE subjects. Wait until the summer and we may see a spike up in numbers

If anyone's interested, you could stay in Sydney Metro area, and catch the train down. There are lots of BNBs that are also cheap.

    Hi Tristan,

If people were to stay in the Sydney metro area, they would be spending upwards of 2 hours on the train each way traveling up and down.

    It's a bit unnecessary imo

  8. Hi All,

After doing some Airbnb digging for accommodation I found a few places if interested

There is also the oaks hotel which is a tad more expensive than some of the Airbnb's but is a viable option

@Bailey Brown commented at how it was good for its price and convenience etc

Another option would be Caravan parks, however they are quite some distance as seen below
image.png.a11975ef9faf2d703af1327505d42936.png  HARS is more towards the Oak Flats end of the map

Ever get sick and tired of flying in a B737 at 35,000ft not exploring all that amazing scenery that is hidden below the clouds? VATPAC Invites members of the VATSIM Community to try something different, flights in and around the beautiful South East Queensland

Fly from either Sunshine Coast Airport (YBSU/YBMC,) Archerfield Airport (YBAF) or the marvelous Gold Coast Airport (YBCG) in your favourite prop aircraft, with Full ATC Services from 0600z - 1000z

    Event Info:
GA Madness focuses on the smaller side of aviation. It's designed to test a controller’s limits with high workload into small airports, with VFR and IFR aircraft. GA Madness focuses on class D airports and this time we’ll be focusing on the sunny Sunshine Coast, Archerfield and the gateway airport to the sprawling beaches and sands of Queensland... the Gold Coast.

    What can I do?
These airports are some of the busiest airports in Australia however, under appreciated in VATPAC. You are welcome to conduct circuits, local area flights or even instrument operations. You may also want to fly a scenic route over the CBD! For those who are looking for longer flights, you could fly to and from Toowoomba or fly from Ballina-Byron.
Bring plenty of fuel and some charts as our controllers assist you to navigate through one of the busiest TMA's in the country.

    Routes:
    If you are planning to fly via airways (Mainly IFR,) VATPAC recommends the following routes to assist in Traffic Flow - Charts for all 3 aerodromes can be found here;

Love your courage, from memory the pilot operating handbook has the max crosswind for a C172 as 15 kts:D

Knocking out the maximum cross wind, I like it 😎

  11. Hi Bryan,

You are correct with flaps used to move slower without stalling. Full flapped landing is generally not needed for airline planes (unless necessary) if your dealing with windy conditions, I would advise you to not use full flaps as it limits your motion if needed to combat wind and windshield

    Regards
