Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.
Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot. Some updated X-Plane 11 scenery for Gunnedah, Wee Waa, Burren Junction and Walgett foris available here.

With another year comes another rendition of one of VATPAC’s most popular events – Panic Stations. No matter the aircraft or departure airport, this event is sure to please your inner control freak.
On the 12th of March, 1913, Canberra was officially named as Australia’s new capital city, beating out both Melbourne and Sydney. Almost exactly 108 years later, we invite you to the Bush Capital for a beautiful and challenging arrival through the Brindabella Ranges, with full ATC expected between 0900z and 1200z.

Event Details:
Panic Stations is a simple, yet quite challenging event. Get as many aircraft flying to the destination airport as possible, with only one objective. Arrive at or after the target time to enjoy bragging rights... Well, until the next panic stations event that is!
For this round, VATPAC will be returning to the traditional Panic Stations format that we know the community has grown to love over the past decade!
Available titles for people to win during this event;
1x JET and 1x NON-JET Winner Touchdown time for this event is 1030z
Expect delays as we try and accommodate everyone whilst maintaining separation standards! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot. Updated X-Plane scenery is available here.

Spotlight Series : NZA Simulations YMHB & YCBG For MSFS | 30MAR21 (0800z - 1200z)
Fly into or depart from either Hobart Airport (YMHB) or Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG) from Melbourne (YMML & YMEN) or Launceston (YMLT) and experience the latest flight simulation has to offer.

The spotlight series will showcase new simulator products like planes, scenery and utilities from all simulators and clients. This semi-regular event will follow closely after the release of these new products giving you a great chance to experience these products in all their glory. This week we are exploring the newly released YMHB and YCBG airports for MSFS. Don't fear we will feature the latest addons from X-Plane and Prepar3D when they are released, and you definitely don't require these addons to participate.

Who are NZA Simulations?
NZA Simulations which stands for New Zealand Australia Simulations, is a development team consisting of 6 developers, 5 of which are from the Oceanic Region and active members within VATPAC and VATNZ. Starting development soon after the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, NZA Simulations released a series of freeware community-based sceneries for places like Kalgoorlie-Boulder (YPKG) and Rotorua (NZRO) to mention a few. Known for their detailed interiors and stunning PBR NZA Simulations have brought Hobart International Airport (YMHB) and Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG) both into stunning detail with their payware scenery debut.

This Weeks Flight on 31st March 2021 is a flight in the Indonesian province of West Papua. The flight commences at Rendani (WASR) situated near the provincial capital Manokwari at the top western part of West Papua will depart to the south and fly a clockwise  back to Rendani (WASR).
This is believed to be a challenging flight to test skills although there is no compulsion to complete T&G's, that is at pilot's discretion.
Flight time appears short at 41 minutes however allowance has been made for location of airfields.
Scenery Suggested:

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
