VATPAC invites you to a Real Operations event featuring Perth as the host airport. Fly in or out of Perth to a huge selection of locations the aerodrome services on a daily basis. Whether you prefer a short FIFO run, a run from the Eastern Coast or a long haul trip starting with or ending with full ATC, this event is for you!
What is Real Ops?
Real Ops Perth is a major event hosted within VATPAC's airspace on the VATSIM Network. This 8-hour event aims to closely replicate and simulate the real schedules of Perth airport.
This year we have decided to open and dedicated 8 hours of full time controlling to capture the peak arrivals and departures for Perth, we have based these slot times on a typical weekend schedule.
We have provided documentation for this event to assist with the smooth operations of this event. This document will be released to the public in the final few days before the event.
How does it work?
To simulate Perth's real-world environment, we have carefully laid out slot times for Pilots to book, these slot times are replicated from the real world to the best of our ability.
A pilot will need to secure their slot before logging onto the network, if a Pilot decides to logon to the network without a slot they will need to contact Perth Delivery to receive clearance which will be given based on an available slot, if a pilot is inbound from another Airport into Perth you will be accommodated secondary to aircraft who have booked slot times.
Event Details:
Real Ops Perth is designed to allow pilots and controllers the ability to receive full ATC service as they transition in and out of the west coast’s largest airport. Fly either domestically or internationally as you hurtle your way to/from the airport! The possibilities are endless.
Throughout this event, ATC will be tasked at keeping appropriate separations standards whilst pilots move about the TMA and ground joining the arrival and departure streams. The challenge is to keep Perth busy for the entire event! We can only do that with heaps and heaps of pilots!
All VATPAC, VATNZ and Visiting Controllers may apply for a position to control at this event, we intend on splitting the 8 hours into 2-3 shifts depending on the traffic load and ATC applications. To apply for ATC please visit the link below.
Apply for ATC here!
Dependent on the number of ATC Applications will ultimately persuade the number of controller positions that are eventually published and rostered. Positions that are planned to be rostered are below.

Booking System:
VATPAC is proud to announce the return of a slot booking system. To book your flight(s), please visit the booking site here.
Aircraft Slots have been created to simulate real-world schedules (To the best of our ability). One month prior to the event (15NOV20), slots will be opened for booking. Pilots may choose more than one slot to book if their arrival or departure slot times do not overlap.
Once your slot is booked, and flights are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email, please read over this to ensure the information is correct.
Bookings will close two days prior to the event (18th December) unless booked out prior to this date.
24 hours prior to the event commencement, you will receive the following information by email:
- Confirmed Slot Time including take-off time.
- Confirmed Route.
- All Documentation.
Important Pilot Information
- Please read the Pilot Briefing, this will include important airspace information including ATC flow and who to contact.
- Please make sure you login with the correct Callsign at least 20 minutes prior to slot time.
- Please ensure you are using your assigned route, these routes are based on real-world, if you cannot use your assigned route please email [email protected] or converse with Delivery on the day.
- Please be courteous, if for some reason you miss your slot we will endeavour to fit you in.
- If you decide to fly without a slot please note, we will do our best to fit you in however there may be lengthy delays.
Documentation:
Documentation for this event will be released for pilots and ATC on the 18th of December.

Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

0Welcome to the next installment of Newbie Night. This event offers the chance for inexperienced members to join experienced aviators and controllers and take to the virtual skies. Whether you're completely new to flight simulation or you've been flying for years but never connected to the VATSIM network, this is the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord. To Join the Discord visit this link.
Event Details:
Fly between Adelaide (YPAD) and Melbourne (YMML) in either direction to experience Class C and enroute airspace, with a bit of time to relax in cruise and enjoy the scenery. This flight is for:
Newbie pilots who want to learn and gain confidence flying on the VATSIM network with live ATC. Experienced controllers who are patient and willing to help newbie pilots on the network. Experienced pilots who are patient and willing to assist newbie pilots through the VATPAC Discord. Flights will depart from 0800z (1800 AEST) with ATC requested/available until around 1200z (2200 AEST).
We recommend planning to depart before 1030z (2030 AEST) to complete your flight with full ATC.
