Hi Folks,

 

We are now inviting applications from members who are interested in taking on the newly-created role of 'Director of Airspace'.

 

Here are the details:

 

VATPAC7 - Director of Airspace

 

Role Description:

The Airspace Director is responsible for aligning VATPAC airspace with real world airspace and maintaining sector files. The airspace director is a service provider to other directors and members. Where some directors rely on other directors for input (such as the ATC director), the airspace director relies on no one. Their role is an autonomous, independent service provider.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Alignment to real world practices

 

? Monitoring Airservices documentation for changes of significance (SUPs, AICs, SIDs, STARs, procedures, standards). Advising ATC and pilot services directors of such changes.

 

Airspace

 

? Definition and maintenance of airspace. Maintenance of airspace website content

? Definition of radar coverage (including use/implementation of ADSB)

 

Sector files

 

? Maintaining POF files

? Publishing revised sector files every 6 months reflecting all changes to navdata, sectors and aerodromes.

? Development, testing and support of sector files

? Lead the sector file team

? Provide one-off sector files at the request of the ATC Director

 

Not responsible for:

 

? ATC clients

? Building IT tools or websites

? Training pilots or ATC

? ATC or pilot documentation

 

As a full-voting VATPAC Board role, the general expectations of all Directors also applies:

 

? Contribute constructively to the ongoing development and improvement of VATPAC for all members

? Attend periodic VATPAC Board meetings to report on operational issues

? Maintain a regular on line presence on the VATSIM Network, controlling, flying, observing.

? Perform VATPAC Forum moderation

? Actively and constructively participate in Staff Forum discussions

? Maintain a presence on the VATPAC forums, particularly in discussion pertaining to areas of responsibility within their directorship

? Keep abreast of VATSIM news and issues impacting their directorship

 

Time Commitment

It is estimated that the minimum time commitment would be in the vicinity of three hours per week.

Applicants should send an email to [email protected] briefly outlining your VATSIM experience and why you're interested in taking this challenge on. (No more than 150 words). Applications will be received and reviewed by an independent panel. Applications must be received on or before midnight, Monday 22nd September AET.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to give back and serve VATPAC. I encourage you not to be put off by the formality of this description, it's constructed formally so that all expectations out on the table from the outset.
