  1. Hi Guys, did a 60 min trial introductory flight in Moorabbin today with RVAC and it was absolutely awesome.  It was my first time actually getting close to and stepping into the real GA aircraft, have been using the simulators for a good few years now.  Flew in a piper warrior,  the wind was pretty gusty, 15 knots with 25 knot gusts RWY 35.  So it was pretty bumpy getting around the pattern, flew to the training area and did some basic maneuvers.  Much smoother air at 3,500, it was really nice up there, with the plane so serene and peaceful.  The training area is close to the farming areas near Cranbourne and Pakenham. The instructor was surprised i'd never been in a GA before and it was my first lesson, so i guess all that fun in the simulator really paid off.  He wasn't aware the simulator modelled the mag checks etc, and I felt pretty much at home with attitude/pitch/trim with co-ord turns and straight/level flight, controlled descents etc in the real plane.  I will never forget that feeling in the roll for takeoff on 35L. Once up in the air - the turbulence hit and definitely shook the plane around the place.  That would certainly take time to get used to and makes you want to grab and squeeze onto the column with both hand for dear life.

  2. Attached is the update from the 20 Aug 15 ERSA. If you already have the base file above imported, just import this file, selecting overwrite existing routes and the amended routes will be replaced and the new routes installed. A few new routes from YWLM in this update.

    Peter

Peter, thanks i've downloaded the update but appears to only have 10-15 routes, not sure if its my browser or something funny, but can you check that?\

Or is the Update simply routes changes that need updating, that would make sense now and i need both files right?

  3. I was just wondering if anyone knows if I can do a shared cockpit with the Majestic Q400 (pilot edition) through FSX multiplayer, then connect to VATSIM? And if so, would anyone want to fly with me sometime?

    Thanks,

    Wilson

Wilson, yep i'd be keen - double the fun i'd say - but wait for the pro release, hopefully it wont need hamachi like other shared cockpit. I read they are also adding a HUD in the pro version. Hopefully FSX can share cockpit with P3D, don't want to go back.

  4. got it' date=' pricey, want more, maybe p3d v2.5 is getting my attention or is it dx11?[/quote']

Awesome, its a great add-on - i definately prefer fsx in DX10 mode with shade over vanilla DX9. I'd recommend you follow some of the DX-10 fixer 'how to' guides out there for setting it all up, particularly the Nvidia inspector and CFG edits etc. bufferpools @ zero throws more at the GPU etc, needs experimentation on your system to optimise. i like 4xSGSS or 8XCSAA, can't get to 8xSGSS with overcast conditions on my GTX 670 as the gpu usage is through the roof!!!

P3D uses DX11 - worthy of investigation for sure, you'll need a quick machine to run it well though, especially if you add-on the old favourites, ASN/PMDG/ORBX/UT2 etc

I'd expect LM will have it on DX12 soon after that comes out and hopefully another step up in quality again.

At the end of the day we all want something that look's realistic, but i always prefer more frames over visuals on approach/landing for example than LOD @ 7.5, MSAA @ 8x or cloud shadows on max.

It is indeed crazy tech days we are living in when i could drop $1600AUD on a 12 GB VRAM titan X or similar price on a 5960X 8xcore CPU monster to run P3D a tad better, but still have the old 32bit chestnut 4GB VAS memory limit to contend - while i'm at it - also need to move house in order to get better than 100kbps upload on my broadband - no improvement expected for another 3 years at least, i read Ethiopia has better internet than Australia - but some of the other things make up for it - rant over.

  5. It's certainly a toughy. It's good to have some company--so it's a good thing Trent does this every time! :)

i'm tempted to run the speedbird ifly 744 v2 but shes a little hard on frames.

Yep, for sure will be tuning into the Musicalaviator livestream on youtube, my handle there is Ies Apac

looking forward to it, hopefully runs well & no OOM's for trent (wishful thinking i'd expect at least one)

  6. hey there, i don't think it critically important to place fsx outside the default just to get it running.

However i know some vendors recommend this, you might have some conflicts with particular add-ons, i think that will be the worst problem you might have.

are you using fsx-steam?, the default directory is deeply buried and seems okay here, mind you i don't run FSX much these days with P3D2.5 become my default go to sim.

Do a search on google or AVSIM there's likely a wealth of feedback/advice,

btw, you don't have Louis as a middle name do you?;)

  7. Guys, any plans for the Avalon airshow this year? its just over a week away now, i'll probably be going along on Saturday and will likely have 3 seats available in car (Melbourne - Eastern Suburbs), 10yr old child not interested this time and missus not bothered either. No car on Friday though.

A catch-up if any of you are around would be great, i'm up for dinner/drink if that happens.

Normally I just get a general admission pass & walk around most of the day drooling at the 'craft' but i'm tempted to get a gold pass this year and see if that is much better or worth the extra.

    have a great show guys,

    -roger

  8. Found out about this today.

I have just downloaded it and am looking forward to using it in my long distance flights.

    :drool::D

very nice, lets us know how you get on, particularly if you have the fsx version, i read online that up to 50% increase in frames is possible vs. fsx version, i'm not sure if i can believe that.

I'm on the fence about getting this already paid 120US for the FSX version which includes the 300er and of course no discount for purchasing that version can be had which is a shame.

Planning to wait until V2.5 of P3D is released before i decide, since a full re-install is apparently required.

I'm certain to get the NGX when it comes to P3D as its my all time favourite to fly.

  9. David,

Can you provide some "how-to" instructions in order to join in this discussion please. I assume we are talking TeamSpeak....

Might solve the poor attendance issue :-)

    cheers

I had no idea and thought it was a real town hall, but didn't want to take the bait for an onslaught of criticism, unnecessarily obtuse but maybe that's the point, weeds out the riff raff etc. it must have just been you and me Chris.

  10. HAPPY NEW YEAR

Thanks for the replies. I think that it is a case of one step forward and three steps back.

I tried moving the voice file into the default directory and it worked.

I tried the load servers again and nothing happened again. I was running FSX as admin and FSInn as normal. So I uninstalled FSInn & Copilot.

Then I found the document "FSInn in 20 minutes" so I followed it to the letter, including going through the registry and deleting all reference to FSInn.

Now I have the failed to load message every time I fly, and I think I've annoyed ATC in England by not responding, because I cant.

    Why is it so difficult?

    The English coast was nice.

    VH-DUX

Alan, agree, FSinn is troublesome, why dont you try the vPilot tool - it might not have the voice files created for FSinn but its pretty easy to setup and run in comparison to fsinn/co-pilot combination - just install, fill in the settings, connect, i've found it much easier and dont miss Fsinn now. I use the IVAO_MTL simobjects for models and liveries etc. I also run it across a network via simconnect and works fine, if running it on a workstation the client should run trafficproxy.exe or the vatsim traffic will stutter

  11. Folks,

Sadly, despite receiving more than enough registrations, unfortunately only a third actually paid. Therefore, the VATPAC 2015 conference (and associated social activities) has been cancelled.

    .

that's a shame was looking forward to that, sounded like good craic

maybe a meetup at the melbourne airshow next year?

    -roger

  12.

Do you need to register to fly as pilot? or can one just turn up??

Tried creating a cross the ditch account, logged in initially using my vatsim details then provided my email and sent off, it apparently sends out an email with confirmation/registration details, but i haven't received anything and its not in my junk folders? tried a few times and no joy here.

    any ideas?

    cheers

    -roger

  13. Hi All,

Payment and other details have been released at our new VATPAC birthday.

    http://conference.vatpac.org

You should use the calculator to determine how much money should be transferred. The calculator also shows you what needs to be paid on the day and in advance.

We will further update the website with detailed schedules for the conference.

    Cheers,

thanks for that update, just wondering ....

does the banquet dinner include booze? or would that be extra?

will there be any vendors / commercial booths at the conference?

Do we get conference goodie bags?? LOL

    i'll bsb when i get a chance

    cheers

    -roger

  14. Hi Roger,

The actual procedures can vary by airport, operator, aircraft type.

The idea is that an aircraft that climbs at a slower airspeed maintains a steeper angle of climb and therefore gets up and out of the way of the houses at a shorter distance from the airport.

Greg, thanks for those details, much obliged, incidentally i flew out of Melbourne on RWY 16 tonight but would need to practice that a bit more, man that 777 is like a rocket ship out of the blocks even with full derate and thrust reduction

  15. The way Melbourne decided to control noise was to limit development of housing to the North and West of the airport.

Trent, thanks for the prompt feedback, Yes that all makes sense, my reading/understanding of this would be RWY 16 always requires N.A. but not 27 or 34, we by and large don't take-off from 09, at night RWY 16 needs to use the full RWY length etc

But its the detail of the departure abatement, that's what's not clear for me, i.e. what are the speeds/thrust settings & heights that a pilot should be applying and can this be mimicked in the simulation for example.

The Sydney plates have detail but not the Melbourne ones?

Interesting image of departures and arrivals here:

    http://aircraftnoise.com.au/working-together/managing-noise-at-airports/melbourne-airport/

You can see many of the standard SIDS in green, but the Dosel8 looks the dominant taking off from RWY 16 and the area south of St. Albans gets its fair share of noise - Cairnlea, Ardeer , DeerPark, etc

I was once attending an auction in Oak Park (think it was Deveraux St.), very close to Essendon YMEN and asked the agent when looking around, 'is this house close to the glidepath' and his reply was no, during the auction a bizjet flys a couple hundred feet to our left and lands, probably rwy 17 so it was very very close.

  16. Do you guys have any information on the kind of NADP applicable in YMML

The Jeppesen sheets i have only has 2 sheets on noise abatement for YMML,

    and says:

jet noise abatement procedures apply to rwy 16 and 09, but then no further details

so nothing reqd for 34 or 27 deps?

    **

As a comparison - The YSSY Jepp sheets lists a more defined procedure, with about 10 sheets on Noise Abatement. there is of course further details in these sheets on prefered runways and operation times etc

    yssy detail on noise shows:

V2+10 to V2+20 up to 1000ft, then Vzf (zero flap speed) reduce thrust, no greater than Vzf +10knots up to 3000ft, smoothly accel beyond that

Flying the NGX and trying to make this more realistic as i usually just ignore these inputs.

i'm sure there is some official procedures document, but i guess inputing the YSSY details into the simulator is probably good enough for YMML,

    acceleration height 3000ft agl

    thrust reduction height 1000ft agl

    thanks for any comments
