By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC. Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc). Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird. Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

What is Regionals and Twins? Taking the focus off major airports and the big jets, Regionals and Twins celebrates both Australia's vast network of inland and outback hubs and the aircraft that service them. You'll need a prop, turbo-prop or small business jet to get in and out of most of the places visited in a Regionals and Twins event but you'll get to enjoy some spectacular scenery as you cruise along at low levels. Controllers are also taken out of their comfort zone as ATC often sees procedural positions. This week's Details This month we'll be focussing on Townsville. Townsville is serviced by Airnorth, Alliance, JetGO, REX, Qantaslink and all the major airlines. Townsville is a common use civilian and defence facility, sharing access with RAAF Base Townsville. 6. The VATPAC Board is excited to announce a community trial of Discord as an alternative voice communication client to Teamspeak. The purpose of this trial is to establish whether a new permanent voice client will be used. The trial will last for a period of twelve (12) months during which the Teamspeak and Discord will work side by side to ensure no disruption to any activities. During this time, we encourage the use of both clients so that we can gather as much feedback as possible from a large variety of members. To assist you in installing and setting up Discord, we have created a tutorial available on the VATPAC website. If you already have Discord, you can connect to our server by clicking here. The 12-month trial may be reduced or extended by a unanimous Board vote and after consultation with the community through the forums. If the decision to reduce is made, and we officially deem discord to be the preferred chat medium, Teamspeak will nevertheless remain available, with reduced capacity for the whole of the initial 12 month period. The VATPAC Teamspeak & Discord policy has been updated to reflect these changes and in accordance with the review schedule. Please make yourself familiar with this policy should you choose to connect to one of our community voice services. If you wish to provide feedback on the trial, you can do so through the feedback form on the VATPAC website by selecting the 'Events & Communications' department. Otherwise, if you have any questions, please feel free to approach a staff member or get in touch via email.

He also has experience managing VATSIM's attendance at major flight simulator exhibitions in the United States. This is an exciting time for the Board of Governors with all positions filled for the first time in many years. The biggest priority for the team in the coming weeks will be to ensure that VATSIM is prepared for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as there are a number of technical challenges to overcome to achieve compliance. The technical team are currently completing short, medium and long term strategies for VATSIM to take advantage of new technology advances. The overarching aim is to make VATSIM fit for the future technologically to enhance the experience of our users. Members will be pleased to learn that priority is being given to the delivery of a new voice codec. We welcome Jamie, Zach, Matt and Matt to the team and look forward to working with them. Welcome to the latest Iron Mic attempt featuring Gold Coast. With a lovely new ORBX City Scene scenery package released and some fantastic freeware available, why not fly into the Gold Coast? With VFR and IFR traffic welcome, make sure our controllers are working hard. The following positions will be the primary positions: CG_TWR CG_APP BN-DOS_CTR To give us the best chance possible, please logon to the above positions at Gold Coast prior to occupying others. Remember, There are no reserved positions so if one of the above positions is available, logon! What is Iron Mic? Iron Mic is a weekly competition that VATSIM holds which recognizes a position with the most hours logged on the network. It is broken into 3 categories; TWR, APP and CTR. The position in each category that logs the most online hours over a 7 day period wins the Iron Mic. How do we know about our progress? Click on this link (http://fsmine.dhis.org/stats/showstats.cgi) to view all the VATSIM ATC stats for the week. Remember, Our aim is to keep the TWR, APP and CTR positions open as much as possible. Coordinate with other controllers to ensure maximum coverage of the Gold Coast positions. You can do this on Facebook or the forums. VATSIM has set out a few rules regarding Iron Mic which can be viewed here https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11100 If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

After a long hiatus, GA Madness is back and stronger than ever! What is GA Madness? GA Madness focuses on the smaller side of aviation. It's designed to test a controller’s limits with high workload into small airports, with VFR and IFR aircraft. GA Madness focuses on class D airports and this time we’ll be focusing on Essendon, Avalon and Moorabbin. Where can I fly? These airports are some of the busiest airports in Australia, however, don't get enough TLC from our controllers. You are welcome to conduct circuts, local area flights or even instrument operations. You may also want to fly a scenic route over the CBD! For those who are looking for longer flights, you could travel across the Bass Strait or perhaps conduct a Jetgo flight to another airport. The choice is yours! Bring plenty of fuel and some charts as our controllers assist you to navigate through one of the busiest TMA's in the country. The Details! Sunday, 8th April 2018 ATC Will be provided from 0200z-0600z ||1200 - 1600 AEST Full details on the forums here https://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,18679.0.html ATC Applications will close Friday 30MAR18. Event Details This evening's flight is a special event to coincide with Easter Sunday. Appropriately the flight will be conducted over the isolated location of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) deep in the South Pacific. To fully enjoy this event FSX/P3D pilots should first download and install the Easter Island scenery created by Carlysle Sharpe. Pilots are tasked with locating as many stone figurine statues, or more correctly, Moai, as possible. The image above includes examples located around the terminal buildings at the Mataveri Airport. Pilots should locate and familiarise themselves with the look and feel of these examples to assist them in identifying the many others scattered across the island. The accompanying map depicts the known locations of the many Maoi. Some, however, are not at all easy to locate since there are a few that lay half buried due to land subsidence. Choose a slow fixed or rotor winged aircraft and explore the mysteries of Easter Island. Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight. Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations. Distance :<40 nm Est Flight Time : variable depending on the persistence of the pilot. Allow around 65 mins Aircraft : Ideally suited to a small rotor wing such as the R-22 Robison. However, those not comfortable with flying helicopters can fly a slow fixed wing aircraft with excellent visibility such as Piper Cub, A22 Foxbat or even a classic vitage open cockpit bi-plane such as a Tiger Moth. Communications :All pilots should be fine using unicom frequency 122.80. Altitude : Pilot's discretion Navigation : Pilots are required to navigate visually. There is no flightplan available for this event. Flight Details Mataveri Airport [SCIP] Takeoff elev : 233' rwy : 10/28 asphalt CTAF : 122.80 VOR/DME : IPA 117.10 Circum-navigate the island and locate all Moai as indicated in the accompanying map.
