  1. I have to say, I agree with Peter on this one.

The standard of Air Traffic Controllers does seem to be dropping somewhat. To be honest, I don't know what the best thing to do is, but I can see that it is and could be a problem.

Times have definitely changed, and I there are some controllers that I think, how on earth did they pass their practical with ATISes, General airport knowledge, Phraseology, etc, like this. To be fair, people usually become better as they go, but to be honest, they need to start with a better foundation of knowledge. Maybe that means a bit of an update to the moodle, maybe something else. But I do think that with things like ATISes, runway operations, useful links (eg: https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/naips/ ), Amending Flight Plans, and more, need to be improved.

Feel free to correct me where I you think I am wrong, but this is my honest opinion.

  2. Hi David.

    1. It seems to happen as soon as FSX loads.

    2. From what I've seen, almost everything is affected including aprons and excepting taxiways, runways, etc. The problem seems to be located to Only Australia but I could be wrong.

    3. Intel Core i5 2nd Gen Quad Core 3.00GHz, AMD Radeon HD6450 Graphics, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

    Thanks,

  3. Hi Everyone.

FSX has been working fine for me for at least a month now, then all of a sudden this happens when I went to to a flight today.

Water. In the middle of nowhere. A very interesting problem and I was wondering if anyone could offer some support :o

I have tried restarting FSX, Restarting the Computer and even System Restore to a date before it screwed up, and no luck.

    Would appreciate your help guys,

  4. What a great event that was. :D

Special thanks to James White (Center) and Mitchell Markovic (Approach) who were my controllers at one stage or another, and worked hard to make sure I was not forgotten as another annoying VFR aircraft who thinks he can win :teeth: . The controllers were under a lot of pressure and did a fantastic job.

Congratulations to the other winner, Christoph Reppel. Hope you continue to have fun flying in the Oceanic Region :)

I must admit, after taking off and not being able to see the ground when I got to 1500ft, I was rethinking my decision to do a VFR flight, but clearly it all turned out OK

Thank you to the coordinators, all other ATC and the pilots who have continued to make this event heart-pumpingly good

    Cheers,

  5. Well, we were having quite the discussion about this.

Long story short, we came to the conclusion that, yes, if the aircraft was where that red arrow was that C would be the correct answer, because he is in CTA in the TMA but as soon as he exits the TMA, he will be OCTA.

Mod: Deleted misleading/erroneous information. Refer to PM.

In conclusion, a very good quiz.

  6. G'day Jason,

Yep, that's what should be happening and don't worry, TAAATSMod is a hard thing to face for many people.

If there are 2 rings around the aircraft that just means you've selected it, not necessarily that you've correlated it, it's only correlated where the tag Is a circle and it shows all details like Altitude, Speed, etc. Unless, it's identified by something Else like ADS-B or ADS-C (obviously all this stuff is in the TAAATS moodle)

I'm a bit confused with what you're trying to ask on that last bit of your post but I'll give it a shot :P

The standard correlation distance is 100nm. The correlation distance is the Maximum distance a flightplan track (where ES thinks a certain plane is) has to be from a plane (or a plane that ES can see) in the sky. When you assign a squawk code to an aircraft, that aircraft will squawk that code and if ES predicts the plane's position to within 100nm of it's actual position, the tags will correlate and form 1, correlated, tag.

The correlation distance exists so if you assign a squawk code to an aircraft, and for some reason another aircraft squawks it, a tag won't correlate with the wrong aircraft (unless by chance that aircraft is less than 100nm away).

Complicated, ay? I'll give an example.

QFA123 is assigned squawk 3373 on his airways clearance out of Sydney.

VOZ123 is assigned squawk 3374 on his descent in to Sydney (because he hadn't been assigned a squawk beforehand)

VOZ123 accidentally misheard the Squawk and accidentally squawks 3373 (which is QFA123's assigned code) Now ES can see there is an aircraft squawking 3373, so it correlates it with the tag that is looking for an aircraft Squawking 3373. So now, VOZ123's position is being shown by A tag with the callsign "QFA123"

If the 2 aircraft are more than 100nm away, this won't happen, because they would be outside of the correlation distance and therefore ES will not let them correlate.

A long post, but may be worth reading. :teeth:

    Good Luck,

  7. It's a thing that unfortunately happens alot on VATPAC, you'll find that mostly new pilots or a pilots based outside Australia will be doing this. :wall:

But think about it, If you were flying in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and you encountered traffic, would you have the private voice rooms and/or knowledge of the voice/text server?

If you are on Squawkbox, you can do that thing where you invite other pilots to unicom, or you can just have a good old, friendly chat, and tell them about unicom. May I enforce, FRIENDLY...

  8. I'll take that as a compliment Andrew :teeth:

A shame I couldn't make it to the event but I was very happy to see the amount of traffic that did come on for the event... Considering a few Saturday Afternoon Flights ago, I was the only one doing it!

If you haven't worked it out yet, I suggested the flight, thought it might be cool going between 2 places like that all the way across Australia, Long flight, but get used to it!

Also good job to the guys at Jetstar Virtual who were dispatched the flight, yeah, maybe 3 took off and only 1 landed but still would of been fun

  9. G'day Danny,

I too have the TS3 app for iPod Touch. I am 99% sure there isn't a way to import your identity from the computer, I think you have to be re-registered with the server.

Also, Make sure you understand that the app doesn't have all the features that the Computer application does, like whisper, file browser, and other things.

  10. That was the most incredible experience I've ever had on SY-F_APP. I've never controlled on Panic Stations and I think many factors came together to make it an interesting night

Congratulations to the winners Russel & John, and a tribute to James White & David Zhong who helped me alot throughout the night

  11. As 99% of people know, Daylight Savings is now on in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia & Australian Capital Territory. This means that WA will still be UTC+8, NT will still be UTC+9.5, QLD will still be UTC+10, but SA will NOW be UTC+10.5 and VIC, NSW, TAS & ACT will NOW be UTC+11. Everyone keep that in mind when controlling and flying, You gotta work out a new way to work out what the UTC time is when the Local time is ****. Just thought I'd let everyone know. :teeth:

Disclaimer: I don't want ANYONE talking even REMOTELY about the 99% figure!!!!

Disclaimer 2: Gee, Panic Stations sure is one for timing

  12. Been using ILS at Avalon in FSX for a while. I thought it already came with it unless it got something to do with orbx.

Yeah, I'm getting the vibes that Orbx has the ILS put in its scenery... "headset"

  13. ILS should be there, it's been there for eons.

HOWEVER the DME function is relatively new, so that may not be modeled.... the DME was added and then RPY and AV NDB's were decomissioned.

Same for ML RWY 16 the ILS may or may not have a DME depending on how up to date your scenery is.

Yeah, never to worry, I added the DME in the scenery file ;)

    Cheers,

  14. Alrighty Everyone, Here it is.

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Unzip the "YMAV_ILS18.zip" Folder to anywhere on your computer

    2. Copy the "Avalon YMAV.bgl" File, to "...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\Scenery"

    3. Done! Hop on to FSX and see if the ILS is there by hopping on the ground at Avalon and tuning your NAV1 to 109.5

send me an email at [email protected] if you have any issues

    Enjoy!

    YMAV_ILS18.zip

  15. Hmmm...

I have flown to YMAV on FS9, I'm pretty sure the ILS isn't there, then again, it could of been before the days where I figured how to use ILS!

There's only one thing we can do...

"This is an urgent call, calling all FS9 users who have/can/will witness(ed) YMAV default scenery!!!!! Please report whether YMAV has the ILS or not!"

But gee, that would be a worry, If FS9 had the ILS and FSX didn't!

    Interesting stuff...

    Cheers,

  16. Hi Everyone,

I just saw the post "Wagga ILS" by David Zhong, so I decided to make my own little change ;-)

As some of you might know, Avalon Airport (YMAV/AVV) has an ILS/DME system on Runway 18. I believe (I do not know, I BELIEVE), that the ILS was made after Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and therefore, FSX does not have the ILS for Runway 18.

So I hopped on FSX Planner, made a few changes, and Hey Presto! Avalon has an ILS on FSX!

OK, I know this will work with FSX (Its only been tested on FSX), i dont know about anything below that, but it should work fine on FS9.

Here is the file below:

  17. Congratulations to Team Brisbane for their win, Well done to my fellow Team Gold Coast team mates for a great effort, and Bravo to all pilots who participated, I saw a couple of newbies out there so great effort on doing a major event at this stage

Shame it didn't go our way but the event was fantastic, Thanks everyone :teeth:

  18. Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I've had to pull out of the event and relinquish my spot on CG_APP :wall:.

Anyone is welcome to book it for the event .

    Have fun!

    Hi Everyone,

Please disregard this, I am able to do the event. :D

And just for everyone who HAS noticed the fact I've actually booked CG_GND, I've Had an "agreement" with Hayden Manuka. ;)
