Hi all,
Some of you may know I work at Hy-Way Truck Accessories where the WorldFlight QFA25 simulator (owned by Matthew Sheil) is hosted doing all the IT for the company. I am moving into a new role and so this position is now vacant and we're seeking anyone who can manage the IT systems for the company but also has an interest in the 747 flight simulator. The role is full-time and based in Chipping Norton in Sydney.
As the IT Manager, you're responsible for:
- Overseeing the Hy-Way network which includes 5 remote locations to ensure optimal operation
- Managing the server resources to maintain uptime and usabiliy
- Assisting other staff with problems they face
- Managing and update the website
- Deploying hardware & software to improve the network
- Maintaining documentation
- Liaising with third parties from the business to make sure the services are operating
- Seeking areas that can be improved upon to make the business more efficient
The flight simulator is based on Aerowinx's Precision Simulator software (PSX) (https://aerowinx.com/) and utilizes around 10 computers. There are many nodes in the network which are used to run the panels and lighting inside the cockpit along with addon software to enhance the experience. The old simulator is currently being replaced by the real 747 cockpit which has every button in the cockpit working and interfaced to the main PSX software. You will be maintaining the simulator along with Matt such as keeping software up-to-date, solving various problems and working out the best way to do things.
If your interested, please send through your CV at [email protected]

You can simply create a blank text file called "alias.txt" or similar and point to it. Mine's blank, I don't use aliases. I think I even used to point VRC to the EULA or something

You can use this map to see where all the Airservices Australia transmitters are. Use the filter (three horizontal lines on the left) and under "Filter Sites By Site Assignments/Licenses" type in "Airservices" in the first box and press enter (you can even narrow it down further to show only the VHF radio spectrum using the frequency range filter below it

For those who use PSX - the NG FMC upgrade has been released and is amazing!
All the extra features you get is so worth it. On top of the Next Generaion FMC, you also get the option to use LCD colour CDUs, wind OAT corridor tools, SIGMET tools. It's really good and is lovely to fly with.

Has anyone else used it yet? We'll be using it at WorldFlight this year

Can i suggest we look at using vATIS https://vatis.clowd.io/
looks like a great tool!
This is what I've always been using and works great you don't even have to think about it while connected. Just rolls over as weather updates come through and you get notified when it does.

...we can finally do shared cockpit on vatsim (observer)...
FSINN has been able to do this 10 years ago. I used to do it with the Compass guys a while ago and worked really well.

Ok Callum, thanks for the response, I’ll do that in the next day or two and advise the outcome with some evidence. Cheers.
Hi Scott,
It's going to be just trial and error - the query that added users into the database when they first signed onto the VATSIM network was causing an error. Hopefully it should be resolved now.
Let me know how it goes.

@Steven Brown Do you still have the stuff we used to try and use in the WF TWR cab that used to usually end with a whole lotta paper on the floor? They might be of some use to either Zach or Tristan.
Yeah we still got it. Just happen to look next to me and there it was...

If the emails are sent out via someone, then just use Bcc.

Hi Tristian,
I'm not sure how the system works and had a look. Do you know who created it or who used to manage it?
-
Hey Tristan, I can do that for you - I just got home today and I'm going following up on various items - I'll let you know

Hey guys, the IT department is meeting up this weekend to sort out where it's at after everything that's happened. If you have things that aren't right (e.g. need an email address etc) send me an email at [email protected] and we'll get it set up for you. Please be patient through this process while we work this all out.

Hi David,
Due to work commitments I won't be able to attend.

Hi Harrison,
This looks awesome.
Some thoughts while playing with it:
1. Route finder Search button also doubles as a route hider - you press search and it updates, but you need to press it again so the routes become visible again on the page.
2. If I type 'yssy' as my home airport, the first entry in the SIDs STARs list which has AIRPORT in the Type column, in the RWY column it has 12.61666667. Is this the airport elevation? Prop/Jet also has 'SY'. Edit: Cant seem to reproduce it...
3. Will there be a way to filter/sort the SID STAR table? eg with the runways that I'm using or having non radar procedures at the top?

Hi Sean,
For your understanding, the majority is in response to this thread: https://forums.vatpac.org/index.php/topic,18475.0.html
There have also been other complaints, messages sent here and there, things happened online etc. Jackson is replying from the VATSIM BoG (being VP Regions)

Hi all,
This thread has gone way beyond the scope of the original post and crossed the line of the VATSIM CoC. This thread has been locked and if anyone wishes to gain answers on what happened at Alice Springs, please email the relevant department.

Hi all,
We are just in the process of debugging the VATPax code (as there have been a few errors) so have taken the page offline for a short time.
Don't worry - it will be back soon
