  1. Its in the heading!

Im now getting the hang of Vatsys and quite like it. Question is (and maybe covered somewhere) Why is the only way to move around the sector is by using the arrow keys and home-page up - page down buttons ect instead of controlling the movement with the mouse like the other clients? Is there a way to have the mouse control the screen movements? Sure there is a simple reason but I am just unclear.

    TIA

  2. Hey guys,

Back after some time away and having issues with an error message on ES.

It keeps popping in error messages every 10-20 seconds and annoying the crap out of me.

"Download Error, status code : 0"  I've never had it pop up in the past and unsure how to resolve. Any feedback very much welcomed

Its prob a simple fix, I'm just unsure what's causing it.

    Cheers

Zhongy, I regard you as one of the most respected members, and past staff in the history of VATPAC. I have sought your counsel on many occasions, and reserve the right to do so in future.

For the singular reason that it's YOU asking, I'll say this much. All questions regarding the limited information that I personally possess, and my own actions in all this, CAN and WILL be answered as soon as practicable. However this cannot include anything that compromises individual privacy. I dearly wish I could provide a better time-frame, but it would be pure speculation on my part.

I thought I was the most respected member, and past staff in the history of VATPAC???      :(

  4. I'm sure the captain would have wished to land first go after the passenger's reports! Seems like they know a lot better (hence the "Eyewitness" tagline :wall:).

Nothing like backseat drivers to give you an accurate account of what happened :wall: :wall:

I was able to pull the archives for the audio. Although it just missed the initial call from JST, it did get the initial heading and altitude from the tower. Seemed pretty smooth with the read back and frequency change and had them landed about 10-15 minutes later with no other issues.

  5. Hi Harry,

You will also need to sign up to VATPAC's ATC training MOODLE.

    http://www.vatpac.org/moodle/

This has all of the study information in regards to what level of controller you will enter VATPAC as. As you are currently an S3 I take it, you can enter as an S3 but are unable to enter as a C1 as you are not currently a C1 in your home territory

You will need to contact the training department [email protected] and request visitor controller status and they will let you know what the rest of the process is from there in regards to assessment before you are able to control in VATPAC.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you in Oz!!

  6. This is something that I wrote a while ago and feel it is relevant here.

I think a lot of people forget or don't realise, when a new controller gains there rating, they are trying to put it all together. They are nervous about now being "live" and things are going to be missed.

While in one session they may nail airways clearances, they may make mistakes with takeoff/ landing clearances.

And in the second session may nail takeoff/ landing clearances and make mistakes with their airways clearances. I have seen it time and time again especially with students that get nervous whilst online. I can simaphise with this as I was once also like this.

What people don't realise is it gets to a point in time where everything starts to make sense and everything starts to come together and everything all of a sudden starts to run smoothly.

This will happen to most when they get their tower rating

And again when they get there approach rating

And again when they obtain their CTR rating.

Throw in what Tracey said about a high volume of new controllers and not to mention members not controlling for long periods of time and yes it may appear to be the case.

However if you look back though the forums, this comes up from time to time over the years. Normally after a influx of new controllers, and if it wasn't for them influx's of new controllers then ATC coverage over the years would be very low in Australia as most of them guys went on and got their TMA and CTR ratings.

I have people on my Facebook page I friended after controlling with them for some time. a lot of them I cannot remember the last time they controlled or even posted in the forums. People move on, people stick around, and new people come in.

I love taking students through their tower ratings. I love seeing them down the track and see how far they have progressed in knowledge and experience. I love it when I see those students obtain higher ratings and almost start over again yet continue to grow and build on their knowledge and experience.

So from a training point of view this is nothing new and the standards have not been lowered. However suggestions, thoughts, idea's are always welcomed.
