  1. Today is Tuesday and again we have Australia Online. Tonight, we will be flying in and out of Adelaide, SA (YPAD). We will need...

    Adelaide Tower

    Adelaide Approach

    Melbourne Center (CANTY)

    I'm going to let others cover those positions, while I take control of Melbourne Approach. Some good flights for the big jets include...

    YMML (Melbourne, VIC)

    YSCB (Canberra, ACT)

    YSSY (Sydney, NSW)

    YPPH (Perth, WA)

    For General Aviation, YPPF (Parafield, SA) is just next to the controlled airspace and is a GAAP, which can be a lot of fun.

  2. Found it (oh no, I'm become an AIP nerd... lol)

    From AIP GEN 5.14.5 row 2:

    To Cross a Runway

    a.* [AT (or ON) (location)] REQUEST CROSS RUNWAY (number)

    b. AT (or ON) (location) CROSS RUNWAY (number) [REPORT VACATED]

    c.* AT (or ON) (location) CROSSING RUNWAY (number)

    So you would put the taxiway identifier in location. Oh and it's not a 'to be', the new AIP is now active.

  3. Here's what I believe to be normal operation:

    Primary behaviour

    If you select a primary it should automatically select RX and TX regardless of prior status however, these will become greyed out so that you cannot alter them.

    Clicking on a greyed RX or TX should have absolutely no effect; the grey indicating not available.

    You can change the selected Primary at any time.

    My bad, didn't realize that PRIM locks out the TX and RX until after my post. To clarify, in some instances when I'm on TX RX HDST (no PRIM), and I uncheck RX, all the boxes uncheck, but then RX comes back. As Luke says, it might be because of the Liveatc server (rw1) going down. I suspect that VRC is unable to receive a signal from the server indicating successful disconnect and then screwing itself.

  4. Haven't reproduced it on any other machine yet.

    If you set your Primary frequency and with Voice rx/tx, then you press the RX checkbox, your RX gets stuck, TX and PRIM go out and HDST, SPKR are disabled. Can anyone confirm? I've been able to do this indefinitely here.

    I haven't posted on the VRC forums as it requires registration nor on the VATSIM forums as they appear to be down...

  5. Hmm... I can't seem to make this a poll... but anyway... Steve came up with some nice trivia questions last night on the Teamspeak server. Hope he doesn't mind me reproducing this one...

    Situation: You are in a Cessna Citation at Hobart (YMHB), registered VH-QNB and noticing the storms coming in, you have decide to file an IFR flight notification.

    YMHB (Hobart) - YMML (Melbourne)

    via LT WON H215 WAREN W687 ML, FL140

    Upon checking the ATIS on 128.45, you note that information ZULU is current and therefore, HB TWR is closed. You tune to HB CTAF 118.1, with ML CTR on your other radio. After making your taxi call on the CTAF, you make your call to CTR.

    QNB: "MELBOURNE CENTER, IFR Citation QUEBEC NOVEMBER BRAVO is taxiing Hobart runway 30, for Melbourne."

    CTR: "QUEBEC NOVEMBER BRAVO, MELBOURNE CENTER, squawk 5124, no reported IFR traffic, area QNH 1013."

    QNB: "Squawk 5124, 1013, QUEBEC NOVEMBER BRAVO."

    After departure, you turn towards the Launy VOR, and make a call to Center, you contact ML CTR.

    QNB: "MELBOURNE CENTER, QUEBEC NOVEMBER BRAVO, departed Hobart at time two three, tracking 319 refererence the Hobart VOR, estimating Launy at time four one, approaching eight thousand." (coincidently, which is approaching the lower limit of Class C Airspace at 8500)

    -- silence --

    QNB: "MELBOURNE CENTER, QUEBEC NOVEMBER BRAVO."

    -- silence --

    QFA42: "MELBOURNE CENTER, QANTAS FORTY TWO."

    -- silence --

    At this point you are at 8000 feet. What is the appropriate action to take at this stage?

  6. Thanks for that glen. I had a look but i think VRC is the Best radar Client Around at the moment mabey ill swap to Euroscope in the Future but for now its probally VRC all the way. By the way you were correct Euroscope does have the Tower View for Only FSX but i think id Prefer VRC still

    You MUST switch to Euroscope in the future, otherwise all the birds will laugh at you.

    Euroscope TAAATS project

    Many of you may now be familiar with Euroscope - the VATSIM controller client based heavily on the Eurocat ATC system.

    What you may not know is that this client is highly customisable. This allows us to tailor it to meet our local requirements.

    Thanks to Jake Saw, who has contributed a great deal of his time to understanding and modifying Euroscope, we will soon be able to replicate the Australian TAAATS system to a more accurate degree than ever before.

    Some of the exciting features which will be at your disposal include:

    * fully interactive datatags including a runway field, scratchpad, track modeviations;

    * clickable cleared level to confirm correct readbacks;

    * Route Adherence Monitor;

    * route probe, showing ETAs for all waypoints;

    * electronic flight strips;

    * capacity to simulate radar coverage;

    * different track symbols to indicate source of information - radar, ADS-B or computer predicted position (non-radar).

    As you can see this will add another dimension to your online controlling experience.

    There is still tweaking to be done and we'll keep you informed of future developments. In the meantime, here is a screenshot to get you drooling.

    If you haven't yet tried Euroscope, it is available for download here.

  7. When I was at ES, I was told that when traffic was low, ES CTR was controlled by the tower controllers in the tower cab. They had their radar displays, etc up there. APP and CTR controllers could pretend that they're doing the same thing, I guess.

  8. I was told that we should always mention what type of departure should be flown in the airways clearance, including visual departures. Might need to consult the AIP or somewhere for that.

    However:

    PILOT- Hobart Ground, G’Day (callsign) out of zone details.

    PILOT- (callsign), Cambridge for Ralph’s Bay,

    POB, Received ____,

    Request Airways Clearance.

    GROUND- (callsign), Time is …………

    Airways Clearance TRACK RALPH’S BAY NOT ABOVE 3500

    PILOT- TRACK RALPH’S BAY NOT ABOVE 3500 (callsign).

    I don't know how accurate that might be...

  9. For the guys who like maximum realism, LT VOR will be U/S between 16 March and 30 May 2009. As such flight plans must be filed to and from the LT NDB and the VOR approaches will no longer be available. To simulate this outage, you should not tune LT VOR and attempt to stop your FMS from autotuning the LT VOR. The LT VOR may or may not be removed from the Navigation Database provided by Navigraph. If you really want to know, you should contact them.

    This is not compulsory, and is completely up to you if you wish to simulate this. ATC should allow pilots to simulate this outage, but should also allow them to continue using the VOR if they wish.

  10. I recommend you never fly at Bankstown then! Happens to me all the time in RL, even down to 50ft or so!:eek: Its what makes it fun!:D

    Cheers

    Dom

    @James: Yeah, that was my bad.

    @Dom: You wouldn't land a 737-700 at BK though! :D

  11. James,

    I'll be available for any TWR rating position from about 0920Z.

    Pilots: Come on guys, very rarely do we get the chance to have a FULLY STAFFED AERODROME. Don't let us down please.
