  1. * I use the term 'preferred' loosely... of course we'd rather an ICAO-style convention to be implemented globally. A non-official rumour for you is that such a change is currently being investigated. ;)

    Rob

Yay! The Americans are switching to ICAO anyway so it only makes sense. Now we just need Flight Data Processors built into the network to compute all the altitudes and speeds and to assign squawk codes for us!

Dean, as controllers, we would rather that you didn't follow the ICAO standard and use the former-FAA (American) style as this way it all fits onto the boxes on the screen properly. To be honest, I don't even know what the codes mean and no where does it say that we are require to know. The equipment that you've put in that flight plan is basically what I assume any B777 would have and I would go by that until the pilot tells me the magic word, "UNABLE".

  2. To Everyone who flew into Melbourne tonight:

Sorry about the delays to anyone who flew into the Melbourne TMA (including YMML) under my control. My controller client decided that it didn't need to draw half of the text on my screen, and any of the aircraft symbols. I probably should have just disconnected and let everyone off to UNICOM.

I hope that it did not cause too many problems for you if your were involved. I apologize for any inconvenience or upset that it may have caused.

  3. Also' date=' I think for next year we may only run it over Saturday and Sunday, thus dropping Friday night, as we had only 3 controllers in the Centre on Friday night - obviously not a popular night.[/quote']

However, it was DEFINITELY popular with those flying from home... I would know :D

  4. Two weeks ago, Australia Online was done quite well guys, congratulations! Tonight will be Townsville, QLD (YBTL). This is a shared (MIL / CIV) aerodrome, not too far from Cairns.

There are probably some good VFR flights as well. If my flight routes are wrong, feel free to correct! Hope to see good traffic tonight.

  5. CANBERRA TOWER's Ten Commandments

    1. Please transmit one at a time

    2. Please get airways clearance

    3. Please get taxi clearance

    4. Please get runway cross clearance

    5. Please don't cause runway incursions

    6. Please don't cross the runway while there's an aircraft taking off or landing

    7. Please call me BEFORE you get to the holding point

    8. Don't get annoyed at me if you've been sitting there for half an hour because your at the other runway and called me a few times after I told you to expect delay

    9. Rolling Thunder guys, please get me an SMC that can connect on to SMC and is able to do his job without technical problems

    10. Please fly more so that I become bald by the end of this weekend at the age of fifteen!

  6. Argh, I find ATC Sim extremely annoying because the aircraft appear to come in randomly and not sequenced, a job that CTR should be doing. But good practice for the day masses of aircraft come in with no CTR, lol

  7. Lol, I just turned off the weather. For future reference, when your in the circuit, the controller does not handle your separation as you are on a visual approach and therefore it is your own responsibility to maintain sufficient separation. This is similar in a radar tower (i.e. PH, SY, ML, etc) when on a visual approach. It's really not that hard to pull the throttle and stick back to avoid making baby planes with the plane in front of you.
