This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 3rd April 2024 takes us to the Caribbean flying an island hop from Point-a-Pitre in French Gaudeloupe (TFFR) to the famous Princess Juliana Int'l in the Netherland Antilles (TNCM). Highlights will be two of the most dangerous airfields in the world, Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) on St Barthelemy Island with a very steep arrival and the other being Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport on the island of SABA which is only 400 metres in length. Approaches in to Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) can use either rwy 10 (left hand pattern) or rwy 28 (also left hand pattern). The arrival using rwy 10 is very steep which makes it quite dangerous. NB: rwy 28 can only be used for full stop arrivals so any T&G's will have to use rwy 10, the steep one). Airport is open to all traffic however note aircraft type required. Refer link for details. Approaches into SABA (TNCS) can use either rwy 12 (Lefthand pattern) or Rwy 30 (Right hand pattern). Runways both have an “X” at each end however this just represents the fact that the airport is closed to all but specific licenced traffic. Refer link for details. Flight created by YMA555 Aircraft: Capable of 150 kias and STOL with reverse prop capability to assist stopping i.e. Twin Otter, C208 or the like. This weeks flight for 27th March 2024 finds us in Alaska flying from Kenai Muni (PAEN) to Sparrevohn (PASV). Sparrevohn is a closed USAF Rader Base but is still an active LRRS Long Range Radar Site with an airstrip. If you are concerned about being a military site you can divert approx 20nm north to Lime River camp (23AK). All these airfields are to the west of Anchorage. This flight takes us through (or over if you havn't got the cajones) the Merrill Pass (Waypoint 04) in plan across the Alaska Range. There is a good chance that the real weather will make this a challenging flight depending upon the cloud layer. Aircraft Suggested: Any GA capable of 130 kias. Comms: Unicom 122.80 unless instructed by ATC Flight Details: LINK Weather: Real time weather, fair weather if conditions are not suitable. This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 28th February 2024 finds us in United Kingdom completing the A1 Highway tour from Sherburn-In-Elmet (EGCJ) to it's destination at Edinburgh. We will complete the flight at Edinburgh (EGPH). The A1 is the main highway in UK joining London with Edinburgh. It is commonly called the Great North Road. I have not altered the flight plan which is always a guide only, but after departing Sherburn-In-Elmet head east for about 5nm which will pick up the A1 and also avoid RAF Church Fenton. Stay about 6nm to the west of the highway for about 30nm to avoid other RAF Bases especially RAF Leeming. We pass thru Newcastle Airport space so obtain any clearances if ATC on line otherwise follow relevant airspace. On entering EDI (Edinburgh) airspace first report point at Musselburgh Racecourse. This weeks flight for 14th February 2024 takes us to Switzerland and is a circuit of Lake Geneva departing from and arriving back to Geneva (LSGG). Flight created by David Bromage It is common for this zone to be controlled so it is recommended to refer to the following for instruction on VFR flights departing and arriving. https://ch.ivao.aero/download/documents/LSGG_ATMM.pdf Refer section 7. VFR flights I have tried with my limited knowledge to provide some guidance hereunder however you are the pilot in control not me Departure: As we are flying clockwise our departure will ultimately be to the north east so if using Rwy 22 ATC is likely to instruct departure via waypoint W (Whiskey) or if using Rwy 04 ATC is likely to instruct waypoint N (November) . Irrespective of which waypoint advise ATC when reaching either outbound waypoint. Arrival: As we are arriving from the south east we must report our position well before reaching waypoint E (Echo) at which point ATC will advise how to join the circuit and left or right. If ATC available do not enter without clearance. NB: Flight over the city and/or airfield must be minimum 3,000ft and Maximum 3,500ft unless instructed otherwise. Route Details: LSGG N LSGP follow edge of lake LSGB follow plan route to LFHZ follow A40 to LFLI Report intentions at waypoint E and follow ATC instructions if any. If no ATC then use left hand circuits for Rwy 04 or right hand circuits for Rwy 22. Aircraft: Capable of 150 kias Comms: Tune Radio to 122.80MHz - Unless Advised by ATC or further detailed hereunder Weather: Real time weather, fair weather if conditions are not suitable for VFR Flying.
