  1. Hello, my recent acquisiton of this CaptainSim 757  has not gone well.

Usual out of date download, followed by two Hotfixes,  one thought all would go well.

A couple of circuits to get use to the beast, it flies and handles well.  Manually of course.

CMD-L  engages  A/T, Hdg, VS  no problem.

Good time for BN to SY  run. IRS aligned, POS INIT completed, route installed, Sid.

3 mins out approaching FL100   CTD,  no warning  P3D4.1  total shutdown.

Repeated this like a dummy does trying all variations for the FMC,   nope  CTD.

Leave the FMC off,  do not POS INIT  flying blind that is,   757 flew to sydney  FL300, no problems, using plan-G  as nav aid.

Anyone that has a suggestion I am willing to listen.

By the way Rusty you were right the flight deck certainly needs some cosmetic attention,  very old looking.

    Regards Mike.:)

  2. As a newcomer to P3Dv4  I sure missed the ctaf chatter on vfr flights.

Yeah  success, Vpilot with AVC working,  contacted BN-DOS  this morning 5x5.

Good idea using the preselected channels ,  To contact an ATC station type in (or select it if it is already in the drop down menu)
    rw1.vatpac.org/XX_XX eg. rw1.vatpac.org/ad_app or rw1.vatpac.org/bn-mde_ctr. (Note the
positions of the dash and the underscore. They are important.)

So on our VFR flights we can infill the correct ICAO codes in advance.

Yet another nail into the coffin for FSX  and FSINN.

I promise not to lose too much sleep over it.

Many thanks to those involved with this process, well done and great support for P3D!!!!!!!!

    regards  Mike.

  3. Invercargill airport was host to 9 vfr pilots on Wed 2nd March 2016 as an attempt was made to find and land rather briefly in most cases on some of the more remote airstrips scattered between the North and South Islands.

Welcome to our newest pilot from Croatia Marcin Riege (am, over there) who came along with us.  After a brilliant demo on landing the Concorde  8) well done Rusty,  we were off.

Six touch and goes, provided endless challenges with Gore offering 6 different approaches.  The weather was kind to us with winds at less than 10 kts and good visibility.  There were some tense moments as aircraft approached and departed these smaller airports, with teamspeak rarely having quiet times as missed approaches and go arounds kept the chatter alive.  Good use being made of unicom 122.8 as always with a high level of correct radio phraseology being used by all.

Thanks again to Col W  and Pete S  for their organizational efforts.

    Safe flying,  Mike.

  4. Wed evening 3rd Feb,  saw another of those challenging flights across the ditch in New Zealand's south Island. Seven pilots took to the skies out of Nelson on an intrepid trip across the mountainous region.  Undaunted by near impossible 'touch and goes', low cloud and even rain thanks to ASN, they barely managed to stay VFR. TeamSpeak was alive with comments on the scenery and the ever increasing  missed attempts and go-arounds. :o

Concluding on the East coast at Kaikoura (NZKI)  and a welcoming bbq and beer.  Thanks to Col W for this trip, Pete for the organization and Lionel, Paul, Henry, and Greg for their continued support of the VFR group.

    Safe flying guys, Mike.  ;)

  5.

Hi Greg, thanks for the link, unfortunately my version of windows 8 does not allow for 'compatability alterations in files'. Followed the directions clearly enough .

Using My Computer or File Explorer, open the following folder...

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\11\Intel 32

Locate three files in this folder... idriver, idriver2 and idriverT

Taking each file in turn, do the following...

Right click on the file, and select properties (this should be at the bottom of the menu that opens up when you right click)

A 'Properties' box will open, which will have 4 tabs at the top. Open the second tab labelled 'Compatibility'. Underneath the Compatibility Troubleshooter you should see the first box 'Compatibility Mode'. There will be a menu there telling you which system the 'compatibility mode' is set to. This will likely show an operating system other than Windows 8. Change the selection to Windows 8, and click apply.

Do this for all 3 files, and I hope it solves your problem, it certainly did mine. Good luck!!

My laptop was purchased from Harvey Norman, loaded with a multi-user licence which is NOT upgradeable to version 8.1. I tried the free upgrade,

    it did not work.

Apparently Microsoft FSX-Deluxe version with acceleration is NOT compatible with windows 8. I am happy to be corrected on this point though! LOL.http://vatpac.org/forums/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif

After many hours of forum hunting and trying different ideas, I have to accept the above.

I will reinstall windows 7 a system which gave me many years of flying with only minor problems and allows program add-ons.

Heat is a problem with laptop flying, I use a cooling pad with two fans installed.

Added an extra fan below the HDD air inlet vent. Now I don't get a hot right hand wrist. Mini cooling fans available from Jaycar.

Hope this helps others who are out there battling with Microsoft.

    Mike.

  6. Hi Col obviously you found a solution to your problem, mine is I cannot even get started to reinstall FSX. I get a very quick 'error 1628' which the forum answers don't provide a solution that works on my machine.

Using FSX Deluxe version 10..........apparently not compatible with windows 8, not sure about this though as you have seen me online recently running it.

Windows 8, with all the recent updates, etc, .

Problem started when I went to install Oz scenery for our VFR flights. Would not accept.

Decided to reinstall FSX just to be sure.

Bad mistake now Windows wont even look at FSX.

Mike Williams. See you on teamspeak tonite.

  7. [For what it's worth, I fixed the same problem very recently by running the FSFDT Control Panel in Administrator Mode through the desktop. The follow the initial setup instructions as per the VATPAC FAQ guide. Solved it instantly. I was then able to use it normally through FSX.

This worked for me, thank you Matt.

    Mike

  8. FSFDT Control Panel Error pane.

Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered; a file is missing or invalid.

Upon installing FSX onto C:\FSX, followed the Newbies guide on Vatpac and installed verbatim, Yes including FSCopilot First, then FSInn, no joy still get this error message.

Repeated attempts using Registry cleaner / restart, no joy.

    System 8

    Some suggestions would be appreciated.

    Mike.

  9. Greetings all from Canowindra, NSW; for those of us who are drawn to anything that can get into the air two days here was a very pleasant experience.

Early morning setups with parkas and beanies resulting in magnificent photos of hot air balloons taking to the skies.

A very well supported venue with over 30 contestants trying out for the National titles. We stubled over this on our trek north to escape Vic's wintery freeze. Took about 40 photos and a couple of movies at night when they did a tethered display of the balloons to music. Not just the kids loved it.

Attached a sample of pic's, enjoy.

    Mike.

  10. Hi, noticed a sudden increase in outgoing data on my last flight this morning Sunday, normally can do a flight and communicate with ATC and only use about 2-3Mb of data for the entire 60 min flight.

This morning I had to stop my connection as I had used 10Mb of outgoing data ONLY, within 15 mins. Incoming data showed only 1Mb.

Rebooting MSFSX and watching my connection data, away it went again, data sent started accumulating rapidly.

No other programs running to make sure that it is FSX.

Disabled REX weather from accessing the internet, no difference.

    Disabled weather online, no difference.

Disabled recent scenery additions, no difference.

Ran my Nortons antivirus and did a full system scan, found a few problems, but has made no difference to my outgoing data useage.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Mike.

  11. Thanks for reply Steve, still no joy though, VRC has full access permission from Nortons, could it be the ip address for Oceania that has somehow changed?

Where do I find the current list of servers addresses?

    88.198.19.202 EUROPE-C2

    89.233.173.18 EUROPE-CE

    88.198.64.7 EUROPE-CW

    202.45.127.66 OCEANIA

    80.249.101.122 UK-2

    66.221.192.84 USA-S3

    64.151.80.104 USA-W2

    sweatbox.vatsim.net SWEATBOX

    localhost Euroscope

This is what I have at present hopefully there is a mistake somewhere here!!!!

    Mike.

  12. I have not been able to log on with "Oceania" for the last 7 days, I now use UK or USA servers, but I guess this is not good.

I also found that my settings had changed to "wave and not direct" in the audiio settings. Regardless of this I could rx and tx to some but not all, go figure!!.

Could someone put a step by step procedure for port forwarding using a usb stick modem to get the 'monitor' to work on VRC please?

    Thank you, Mike.

  13. Yes it does happen David, even with 10years experience of online flying , Istill get nervous at times logging on at a busy airport. Now as an ATC Tower controller I undetstand better tje pressure atc are under and how even little things said or done can begin to add to thay pressure. Its more my age than anything else though (grumpy old men syndrome) LOL. Rest easy David it takes a lot before you are disconnected, tower controllers do not have this authority. Come and join us on Wednesday or sunday @ 8pm esdt at vfr ops plenty of radio chatter and friendly advice from all. Mobile phone texting hence the spelling mistakes. CYA Mike

  14. Wednesday newbie night 13/5, got me excited to see 8 aircraft at Sydney. Logging on as Twr unleashed a flurry of activi:wality.

It persisted for the next hour, quite a few newbies flying and even a text only pilot. Sy app also opened extending the ATC

experience for all pilots. I finished my shift around 10:15, happy to have been as sistance to others

oh and by the way all of this thanks to som:party:e clever technology which allowed me to be in my caravan on

the banks of the Murray river in Corowa NSW, generator running.

    Enjoying the experience. Mike

  15. Thanks Trent, really enjoyed the flight, only got lost once, my graphics weren't up to following a nonexistant railway line just a fuzzy grey line down there, but use of the GPS kept me inside the quadrant.

The Manning River appeared as mentioned making it easy now to locate Taree, although I did cheat and put Taree into the GPS direct. he he.

    Now for the return trip.

    Mike.

  16. Trying to get organized before having aircraft call me up, is it possible to be connected to VRC as TWR controller, setup my ATIS etc, then start communicating with aircraft?

    1. At what point in the connection process do aircraft see my TWR connection?

    2. Would having the Primary button in the Communications panel "Unchecked" prevent aircraft from seeing me as an active controller?

Really enjoying being a tower controller, certainly adds to the Virtual experience of aviation. Many thanks to those who have assisted me to get this far.

    Regards Mike.

  17. Port forward the applicable ports for VRC in your Router.

    TCP 6809

    TCP UDP 3782

    UDP 3290

Appreciate you taking the time to set us novices straight. Could you elaborate on port forwarding, my experience with this was very confusing. I have a Belkin wireless router, directly cabled to pc.This site http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/60/~/configuring-port-forwarding

takes me nowhere, keeps timing out.

It recommends going to http://192.168.2.1 timeout repeatedly.

My ISP provider says they do not support Port Forwarding??????

It seems my Tower training will have to wait. My FSX/squawkbox is working well.

At least I can keep flying and pick up info that way.

    Much appreciation

    Mike.W

  18. First, thank you all for the forum discussion. I have been following it trying to get my FS2002 'on line'. I get connected and can see ML twr, but they can't communicate with me. I've set Explorer Options to accept vatsim etc, and Nortons as well, no success. I am running XP with SP2, I'll try the latest suggestions of being more patient when connecting and allowing the programs to catch up.
