ML SNO CTR - Why does ATC wait until you are way passed your top of descent point before contacting you?. Then have a go at you for descending without permission.
The way I see it they want to make it hard for people to get the thing on the ground.
Not a happy chappie

You should be calling them, 2 minutes before you intend to start your descent, advising your intentions.
Don't assume ATC knows every detail about your aircraft - It's possible the controller in question expected a steeper approach profile, or just plain messed up and forgot to plan your descent. Safe flying starts with clear communication, so that all involved have a common picture of what's going to happen. Advise ATC of your intentions. Advise us of your requirements, if you need anything for safety of flight - or make a request, if there's something we can do to make your life easier.
No one is setting out to make it hard to get on the ground, trust me.
