November brings us back to the renowned Queensland coast for FIFO Friday! Fitzroy is home to some of Australia's most famous mining towns such as Moranbah and Emerald, both of which are supplied by FIFO flights to a range of destinations across Queensland. You can also travel up to Longreach and spend the day at the Qantas museum, or continue up to Winton to discover where the flying kangaroo was founded. Fitzory truly is the heart of Queensland and we welcome you to fly there as part of this month's FIFO Friday. So join us between 0700z-1000z on November 5th as we attempt to staff up the entire Fitzroy region, with full TMA's at Townsville and Brisbane, as well as enroute sectors online across the region. No matter which aircraft you want to fly, we welcome you to Fitzroy. Routes: The below map highlights some of the routes available in the region: With ATC aiming to cover the entire region, pilots are free to fly in whichever direction and between whichever airports they choose. For the more popular airport pairs, we recommend the following routings: YBBN - YGLA: BN V308 SAGLI W231 GLA YBBN - YEML: BN Q484 MORRO Q421 UNVAT EML YBBN - YMRB: BN V308 SAGLI W231 GLA W636 RK W518 NIPOM YBTL - YMRB: TL W613 NIPOM YBBN - YBAR: BN Q484 RUDEY W369 OK W270 UNVAT W364 MOVBA YBTL - YWTN: TL Q30 ANRUB Q71 DOBGO W469 TAXUM YWTN - YLRE: TAXUM W644 LRE Remember that routes not listed here can be found using the VATPAC ATC Assist tool. Special Procedures: Fitzroy is home to a whole array of magnificent regional airfields for you to explore. Being too small for full control services, OCTA services will be provided by enroute controllers to assist you. Below is a guide to help you with these services: Departure: Taxi Call: The taxi call informs ATC of your intentions and that you are taxiing at your respective airfield. In response, centre will provide you with a traffic statement and a squawk code. Example: SKP71: "Brisbane Centre, IFR Dash 8, SKYTRANS 71 taxies runway 14 at Pormpuraaw for Cairns" BN-ARA_CTR: "SKYTRANS78, no reported IFR traffic, squawk 4782" SKP71: "Squawk 4782, SKYTRANS 71" Departure Call: Once you have departed, the departure call allows ATC to identify you and to provide you with your airways clearance to your destination. Example: SKP71: "Centre, SKYTRANS 71 departure" BN-ARA_CTR: "SKYTRANS 71, centre" SKP71: "SKYTRANS 71 departed Pormpuraaw at time 49, tracking direct MASHA, passing 4500 for FL190, estimating MASHA at time :02" BN-ARA_CTR: "SKYTRANS 71, cleared to Cairns via MASHA flight planned route, climb FL190" SKP71: "Cleared to Cairns via MASHA flight planned route, climbing to FL190, SKYTRANS 71" Arrival: Descent: As you approach your destination, the centre controller will advise you that you are cleared to leave controlled airspace on your descent. They will provide you with a clearance, traffic statement, and the local QNH. Example: BN-ARA_CTR: SKYRANS 53, leave control area descending, no reported IFR traffic, area QNH 1015" Termination of SARWATCH: Once you have arrived at your destination, inform centre that you have landed and expect them to respond with a termination of your SARWATCH. Example: SKP53: "Centre, SKYTRANS 53 landed Aurukun, time 38; cancel SARWATCH" BN-ARA_CTR: "SKYTRANS 53, Aurukun SARWATCH terminated, time 38" Communication with Other Aircraft: When you are not in communication with the overlying enroute controller, you must announce you intentions on the published CTAF frequency, as well as monitoring UNICOM on 122.800. For more information, see here: https://vatpac.org/help/tutorials/ctaf-unicom-and-vhf2-monitoring/ ATC: During FIFO Friday, ATC positions are rostered. Welcome to the stunning Northern Territory! Watch the endless seas of red surround you as you cruise above some of Australia's most sacred lands; or explore the tropical coast and find yourself amongst the palm trees. Either way, the NT has many FIFO routes for you to explore. Here FIFO flights help to not only to carry miners into the rich interior of the territory, but also to provide essential services to the indigenous communities throughout it. Join us on October 1st as we bring these FIFO routes into the world of flight sim and attempt to staff up the Top End. We aim to have full coverage of Darwin, as well as enroute services covering the entire region between 0700z-1000z (5pm-8pm AEST : 3pm-6pm AWST). This July, we are happy to welcome you to the Festival City for another edition of the ever-popular Panic Stations! It doesn't matter what aircraft you decide to fly, all that matters is that you make it on time to enjoy those all-important bragging rights. South Australia awaits for this edition of Panic Stations, with the expectation of a fully staffed Adelaide (YPAD) between 0600z-0900z (4pm-7pm AEST). Whether you arrive over the beautiful Flinders Ranges, or by crossing the renowned Eyre Peninsula, we can ensure that Adelaide won't disappoint. Event Details: The aim of Panic Stations is a simple one; get as many aircraft flying into the destination as possible with one objective. This being to arrive into Adelaide at or after the arrival time to be in the running for exclusive bragging rights, as well as a special prize! This time around the touchdown time is: 0800z (6pm AEST : 5:30pm ACST : 4pm AWST) We do recommend bringing some extra holding fuel as controllers will be busy trying to accommodate the influx of pilots whilst trying to maintain larger separation standards than usual. Prizes: Thanks to the lovely people at Aerosoft, this Panic Stations will have a little bit more up for grabs than usual. They have generously donated three $15 Aerosoft Store Vouchers to be won by two punctual pilots and one lucky controller. For Pilots: To win one of two awards on offer, you must be one of the aircraft to arrive at or just after the target arrival time. One prize will be given to the first jet aircraft to arrive, with the second going to the first non-jet aircraft to arrive. For Controllers: Everyone controlling during the event will be entered into a controller matrix and assigned a random number. A random number generator will then be used to determine a winner of the third prize. This means that you have to be in it to win it! Our three lucky winners will be immediately contacted by VATPAC5 to redeem their rewards. The eligibility requirements for receiving these prizes will be released closer to the event date. Routes: We recommend using the following routes when arriving into Adelaide from Australia's major cities. These are only a handful of the possible departure points so feel free to depart any airfield you like. Whether it be the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, the infamous Daintree Rainforest, or the mining hub of the Atherton Tablelands, this region definitely has a scenery to suit everyone. Here, FIFO flights focus on connecting the indigenous communities of Cape York to Cairns (YBCS). These flights are often the only connection to these towns, playing an important role in keeping a unique and ancient culture alive well into the future. You too can bask in the wonders of Leichhardt by joining us between 0700z and 1000z (5pm-8pm AEST : 3pm-6pm AWST) for ATC coverage of the region. Regardless of your aircraft type, or experience level, we invite you to come take advantage of a fully staffed Cairns (YBCS), as well as enroute coverage from three different sectors encompassing the entire region. No matter where you fly, we hope you enjoy your time and we welcome you to Leichhardt this July! Routes: The below map highlights some of the most popular routes which can be flown in this region: Other airports of note within this region include: Mareeba (YMBA), Coen (YCOE), and Lockhart River (YLHR) With ATC covering the entire region, pilots are free to fly in whichever direction and between whichever airports they choose. For the more airport pairs, we recommend the following routings: YBCS - YCKN: CS W567 GUPDA YBCS - YBWP: CS B473 WP YBCS - YHID: CS R204 HID YBCS - YPMP: CS Z11 MASHA YBCS - YKOW: CS W281 KOW YBCS - YNTN: CS J64 NONUM W793 NTN YBCS - YAUR: CS Z42 NECTA YBCS - YNPE: CS W567 LHR Special Procedures: Leichhardt is home to a whole array of magnificent regional airfields for you to explore. Being too small for full control services, OCTA services will be provided by enroute controllers to assist you. Below is a guide to help you with these servies: Departure: Taxi Call: The taxi call informs ATC of your intentions and that you are taxiing at your respective airfield. Example: SKP53: "Centre, SKYTRANS 53 landed Aurukun, time 38; cancel SARWATCH" BN-ARA_CTR: "SKYTRANS 53, Aurukun SARWATCH terminated, time 38" Communication with Other Aircraft: When you are not in communication with the overlying enroute controller, you must announce you intentions on UNICOM (122.800), as well as monitoring and using the local CTAF frequency for traffic in the vicinity. Welcome to May! … and by extension, to the Darling Downs region of Queensland as part of this month’s FIFO Friday event. Said to have the “richest soil in the world”, the region has become the agricultural hub of not only Queensland, but all of Australia. It’s home to Queensland’s largest inland city, Toowoomba, whose primary airport (YBWW) now sees freighter flights as far away as Hong Kong and Singapore. Of course, this event won’t be taking you that far. Depart from Brisbane International Airport (YBBN) and explore one of many airports in the Darling Downs region, with full ATC between 0700z-1100z (5pm-9pm AEST, 3pm-7pm AWST). Or why not even take your REX SF34 out for a spin on either their W1 or W2 routes up through central QLD. No matter the aircraft, you will be sure to find your home in the green heart of Queensland. Routes: The below map provides suggestions on some popular routes which can be flown in this region: Smaller airports within this region include: Dalby (YDAY), Toowoomba City (YTWB), Surat (YSRT), Goondiwindi (YGDI), and Dirranbandi (YDBI).
