Can you edit the audio? Maybe with audacity or similar? Is there a config file you could alter to adjust the volume of that model specifically?
Silly question, is there some alternative model you could use, if this one isnt displaying properly and has audio issues?

Controllers don't seem to be taking any steps to stop this
Past a certain point, controllers shouldnt be taking steps to stop this, other than notifying a supervisor. Point out the rules, if they remain in noncompliance, point them out to a sup and try to work around them. Having confrontations over the network doesnt give anyone else a better experience.

Agreed, it's not the end of the world.
Would be nice to have fixed.

The social media links have been manually blocked with an adblocker plugin - javascript is running unaffected. This is on Firefox.
I dont have Chrome or Edge. The other browser I have installed is Lynx. Let me do a quick check with that, although I suspect it will display the page a little differently.
Lynx notably is a text browser, and doesnt seem to display the unread content button on any of the 17 pages of the home page for vatpac.
Your screenshot is from the forum, which does display the unread content button there - its only missing on the home page.

I do on mobile. On desktop, it's drawn below the nav bar.

Yeah those ones. They were at the very top before.
On my monitor, there is a very large banner between the navigation ribbon and those buttons. On a 768 px window, they arent at the top. Its a relatively minor niggle, but so long as we are offering feedback...

Oh, that's surprising. Still looks like invision.

Is there a way to select the old theme? From a UX perspective, I have to scroll down to access buttons that were formerly at the top of the page - for "unread content" and "mark site read".

I use this list when controlling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airline_codes

Not a controller, but its worth noting that many towns on the map are waypoints. In the absence of a better answer from someone doing it currently, Id speculate they'd either write it down and update it when there is a minute free... or play back the radio recording for the same purpose.

had a great time flying out of Dubuque, Iowa this morning where the controller
offered SVFR.
Note that you arent very likely to get offered SVFR in Aus. Strictly speaking, its pilot-initiated here - the controller isnt permitted to offer it. You are supposed to know what the VMC are and whether or not you will require special minima to land.

Hi guys,
Coming to the end of my Basic Training, IFR and VFR etc. MSFS2020 is a week away and I wanted to know should I get some software ready like VATSpy and vroute.info etc ?
Should I be joining a Virtual Airline, I am not 100% sure how to connect in so to speak, I mean when I get the sim it will be doing some VFR circuits etc but just wondering the best way to be prepared with the software and people etc ?
Also is it possible to connect in to listen to others whilst not having an active flight sim or not ?
Thank you in advance
it is possible to connect and observe. One method is to install a control client, like VRC, alongside the (currently standalone) AFV client. You connect as an observer with VRC, and then connect with AFV, and you can listen in on radio chatter near your 'vis points' set in VRC. The guides for aspiring controllers cover how to set this up.

Was more taking the piss out of the map display on their site. It purports to depict the boundaries of the locations covered by their service, and omits Kangaroo island, as shown above. I suspected it would in fact be covered, but Im glad to see we can confirm that.

There is charts from airservices as Greg linked to for King Island. You'll also find them via chartfox.
I mean, Chartfox clearly indicate otherwise on their site!

The trees kill me too, obviously autogen, i'm sure that will be fixed before release.
I think most of the planet is auto-gen, based on the advertising. Sounds like it was all (some specific spots excepted) generated using some AI based on the Bing imagery. Pretty cool concept, but it does seem to leave these artefacts, like the trees obviously not being to scale.

So I haven't flown in about 15 years (about 12 on vatsim) Is the POB call something new because I have no recollection of it from my pilot training or training documents outside of emergency situations?
Specific airports include it in their local instructions in the ERSA. Jandakot being one such example, Im sure there are others. I wasnt flying anywhere near a control tower back then, so I couldnt tell you if its new! Must be.

To be fair, at least some 172 POHs do have a section warning about full flap and crosswind conditions. Not prohibiting the combination, but advising caution.

Careful, you've just assumed that statement as 'literally every pilot ever in the history of pilots'. I think Joe used quotations on 'everything' for this reason.
That's great if you did read everything. But did reading about holding pattern sector entries prior to your very first flight, which most likely consisted of effects of controls, and flying straight and level, benefit you in any way? I highly doubt it, given that a majority of first time flyers are more focused on what rudder to stomp on when they're increasing or decreasing power.
You don't have to read 'everything' before you get online. There is a lot to gain in doing some flying whist you are reading (for the sake of clarity, not literally simultaneously flying online with your right hand whilst holding your AIP Book open to ENR 1.5, page 27, Section 3.4 with the left).
Well, to be fair Brett, I did read about holding pattern sector entries prior to my very first flight. And that flight did consist of EOC and SnL, as you would expect. And as you suggest, knowing about sector 1, 2 and 3 entries was not of any use.
To clarify, as it seems we have three posts in a row with assumptions, I was not suggesting that reading everything is required, prior to one's first flight. Heck, the only reason I had so much theory knowledge prior to my first actual flight, was studying aviation and flying flight simulators for years beforehand.

remember that even a totally new pilot does not just read 'everything' before they
take their flying lessons. there is a lot to understand and it needs an active flying context.
Careful with assumptions. I did.

many miles away - good way of putting it. In the circuit at Bunbury, we can hear traffic calls for Jurien Bay - 187 nautical miles away. Both on 126.7
Depending on where you are in class G, and what flight rules you are operating under, I might even skip the taxi and lineup call. Im reminded of a recent CASA safety presentation highlighting the required calls at a CTAF: There are none.
There are some which may be a good idea, to satisfy both good airmanship, and your CAR 166 obligations - but none which are unconditionally required.
That said, if you are intending to fly IFR, you might have some other required radio calls, on a different frequency.

Ah yeas, clearly forgot to forgo my daily routine of checking the VATPAC staff page while having morning coffee, to check for any un announced staff changes.... while that may be the case, I'll leave it to you to make speculations based on assumptions.
You forgot to forgo that routine... so you did in fact check, then? Or is it a case of that word doesnt mean what you think it means?

I am yet to see an announcement regarding VATPAC 2?
Given the unpublicised change to the Division staff page on this very forum, I would imagine one will be forthcoming shortly.
I would further hazard the totally uninformed guess that leadership members may have concluded that making such announcements in short succession might give an impression too close to reality to the general members, which would be undesirable at best.

Any advice?

PC parts are going to command a price premium for a little while yet, with the TSMC chip shortage.
You may consider waiting a bit for cheaper prices. Alternatively, you might consider a lighter OS if you just need to run Total War and DoTA.
