  1. I think it’s fine. For context, my introduction (and many others) into an aviation and airline career was thanks to an invitation from a VATPAC member & in that spirit I think it’s in line with previous practice .

  2. The whole situation was very badly mishandled. The impact a rouge drone could have on airport operations in this day and age are 100% predictable. Airport operators should already have contingency plans for a situation such as this. It's poor form it took this long to sort out.

There is an endless set of technology these days that can disable a non-military drone, especially at large events (e.g. sport stadiums etc.)

  3. My father is selling five classic original airline seats, need a little cleaning and re-upholstering at $150AUD each.

These are 1964 seats used in TAA planes.

    2 twin-seaters (first class) & 3 three-seaters (economy class).

    Will sell separate.

You can view some pictures here - https://imgur.com/a/C6mgAgB (excuse the hideous upholstery!)

Available for free collection in Brisbane, Australia.

If interested, please DM me and I will put you in contact.

  4. Open letter to all:

    Friends,

There is momentum growing, rightly or wrongly, at an increasingly growing distain with the leadership and direction of the division (and even the network).

Many conversations are happening in semi-public channels - away from this forum.

I know some friends have had ongoing personal issues with past and present leadership of not only the division but the VATSIM community as a whole.

This is not a post to express an opinion on that topic.

This is an encouragement for all members (leadership included) to remember why they come here. Fly, control, make friends and enjoy some time-away from the real world. If you are here for different reasons, to cause trouble or to topple the leadership for agitation sake, this is not the division or network for you.

If you want respect, give respect. This goes two-ways. Free speech should be rewarded- even if you disagree with that the person is saying. Shutting down debate, unless it involves excessive abuse or racism etc, is wrong.

Ignoring the VATSIM CoC's and suspending members as a first reaction to reasonable debate, is wrong. To make personal attacks on people and to suggest they are making petitions for change purely on personal grounds (because they didn't get a job) - is wrong. People should be encouraged to put their hand and help. Not told to go away because they have some different ideas.

For members that genuinely have issues with the direction of VATPAC or even VATSIM, reach out and express your views and more importantly with some ideas on how to change it. Changing leadership chairs will rarely fix it.

You may not have seen some staff and others online as regularly as you might like. However, having been associated with the division/network (and it's predecessor) for over 20 years, I can tell you that a small number of names/voices/faces have been around for many many years and their knowledge, expertise and experience should be encouraged, not ignored. This is not to say every single member should not have the ability to start a movement and change the direction of not just the division but also the network.

VATPAC is a tribe. It's leadership's primary objective is to facilitate communication and ideas from within the tribe. We are here because we believe in the underlying core message and principals of the tribe. If you didn't, you would leave. Thank goodness there is such a motivation for people to express themselves. If there wasn't- nothing would change. This is not a place for the status-quo. But it's not the place for one or two people to wreck it for everyone (this includes past and current leadership but also members).

What I'm saying is, protect this place, don't blow it up because you don't like some parts of it. Threats of going to new divisions and new networks are silly. If you want to go, go. However, don't go then and complain.

Children require rules. Adults go by principals.

The principal is this; we have an engaged community, with many diverse voices. Express them in the right way and they will be heard. My experience shows me this is always the case- maybe not at the speed you want but in the end change does happen.

I commend you ALL for your dedication, hard work and belief that VATPAC can (and will) be better.

If you want to reply to this post, at the end of it, put the "best" thing you like about VATPAC- it's important to end on a positive note- because I'm sorry, it's not end of the world doom and gloom like some have expressed.

For me: The people that I have met online, then in real life, have changed my professional career trajectory - to the point that I can sit and write this from New York, where I live and work, in aviation. So thank you to the mentors and friends that helped me get here from a young age.

I wish you safe (and fun) landings.
    • Thanks 4
  5. Like the post said; just rename the ZSCB file from .bgl to .off and it will work fine.

    \ORBX\FTX_Au\FTXAA_YSCB\Scenery\ORBX_ZSCB_APX.BGL

In the GSX manual you can find a way to get them to work together but switching off the other BGL is the easiest. Same problem in NZQN.

  6. Excellent redirect Joel-  but you didn’t answer the question.

    1. The lackluster online performance of most others doesn’t excuse your lack of online presence. If anything it shows that the VATSIM leadership team ignores the CoC it’s supposed to uphold.

    2. No one “criticised” your off network time. But it doesn’t excuse your lack of “maintence of online prescence”. That time is designated “so as to remain accountable”. You have disrespected the membership but not complying with this requirement.....rather than apologise and say you’ll try better you justify it by saying others don’t do it so I don’t need to.

    3. No ones asked you to put the “detriment” of your “real job” for a volunteer organisation.

    4. Why do ALL of the VATSIM CoC not apply to the position of RD?

  7. I understand.

That’s why in the past 5 months [not just last 3] you have connected at VATOCE1 as follows

    May 21 minutes

    June 0 minutes

    July 0 minutes

    August 38 minutes

    September 0 minutes

    October 0 minutes

In fact it’s been 60 days since you last connected at VATOCE1. On average in the past 5 months you have been connected for 20 minutes a month.

    The numbers don’t lie.

Do the VATSIM CoC apply to all? Or can we pick and choose which rules we adhear too?

  8. The procedure is designed to allow jets from the north to descend and jets TO the north to climb. If you went from ARBEY direct to final RWY27 you would be descending into climbing traffic. Therefore Rwy34 deps are kept at 5000ft until clear of inbound traffic and ARBEY arrivals held at 6000ft until clear of departing jets. It's also why when departing off RWY27 you need to be above FL100-120 etc as you turn towards DOSEL.

I'm sure someone with more local knowledge can fill us in.

  9. Hi Lionel - hope you are well.

Not sure about exact update time frames for their official release into p3dv4 - but you can activate "fastlane" via your account: https://orbxdirect.com/account/fastlane

This gives you access to all their airports in v4. They have updated objectflow and I've been using all the airport in v4 for over 6-8 weeks with no drama.

    Hope that helps.

  10. Veeoz virtual must have their own FRMS approved by vCASA.

You're right, Skip masterfully convinced vCASA that we should work 2000 hours a year for no pay. He is a hard task master !  ;D

Tracy, thanks for your apology, David, Arjun- everyone appointed are great gents and again as you've correctly identified this is an issue of process. My point has been made and I'm sure now understood.

  11. Thank you to the gentleman who have stepped up to contribute to this post.

It's clear that this Director wishes to 'play the man' - not 'the ball'; it's good politics. I raised issue with the process, not the people. He tried to bring down the member.

A real leader, especially during a period of such turmoil, wouldn't speak down to ANY member, regardless of their membership duration or contribution. Someone joining today should be afforded the respect that the alleged 'values' document quotes as mandatory regional policy. The disregarding of this policy should speak volumes to the current membership about how the division will be run for the next 12 months.

It would be appropriate that there should be a spill of the positions and proper open and transparent processes followed to find a director and board that commands the respect of the members; new or old; quiet or loud.

As far as lurkers go; if my 939 hours on the network for the past 6 months make me a lurker; your <200hours must make you an invisible ghost!? (not an active and fairly social member).

  12. Dean,

Given you're practically never seen around here anymore

I'm perplexed by your comment. Do you mean my 6100 hours as a founder & Chief Pilot of VeeOz Virtual, my over 1000 hours at vRAAF or my multiple interactions on social media with the VATPAC community (including VATPAC constantly using my screenshots in promo material) deem me as someone 'never seen'?

    Maybe the picture will speak more clearly about me never being seen around here anymore;

    GmWidYF.jpg

There are times to keep quiet and times to speak up. This is a time to speak up.

As to your self-appointed tenure and the so-called dire urgency; it's because of the dire urgency caused by the mass exodus that the division can no longer function properly without credible change, one that is transparent & understood by the membership. I stress this is about the process; not the staff that have been appointed.

Who decided you (or any individual) should be divisions director for the next 12 months if it wasn't VATOCE1? Was it the VATSIM BOG? Was it the membership? Was it the VATPAC founders? Where is the due process? Where is the open applications? Where is the transparency?
