  1. Wewak is such a special airport that only SVFR aircraft will fly during this event. As for the locations Pilots can fly into or out of Wewak and can fly in the rest of Australia as well cause Wewak has no scenery and looks terrible in the sim. As for the best event of the week. This is purely listed because Wewak is the best airport in the VATPAC airspace as voted by 2 people.
Sadly though this event I forgot to mention it will be a 1 off for the 12th of March 2031. So once that date hits I think it may be a contender for the best event of the week. Till then VFR Wednesday can rain supreme.

  2. Bonjour everyone!

I wish to introduce the best unofficial event for Wednesday evenings.

Wewak Wednesday is a casual event where people can fly in and out of the best airport in VATPAC airspace.
This event goes from 800z till 830z. This will be the best 30 minutes of your life.

Feel free to come along to the best airport. While Pacific Link may be dying in a grave Wewak Wednesday will rise to take the place of the best event during the week.

Your spreadsheet has ML-WOL_CTR where as the event post has ML-SNO_CTR, so which one is being staffed? Given that SNO is responsible for CBR, I would assume it is SNO?

yep twas a typo thanks for pointing it out :)

  4. Realistically if we want to win we are going to need a group of us to write down on a google sheet or something our time and fill in the areas, we can control, so it's an open book with everyone.

I personally think the time requirements are a large deterrent. Look at any other divisions, we are the only ones who implement this.

Why would this be a deterrent?

    1. It helps the future controllers get use to their client of choice
    2. Gets phraseology into them even before they are started
    3. They can get hands on advise and ask questions if they don't understand what the controller is doing

If people come in and don't understand anything wether it's their radar client or even how to connect that takes me time away from Mentors/Instructors when they could be doing other things like progressing with the student further or even real life activities. This can help shorten the lines of people waiting if the trainee's already has some knowledge which is better than none.
If you were a mentor and had trained people before you would know first hand the amount of time teaching someone a radar client takes out of the whole session. This can even range longer if it's a client like Euroscope.

But lets think about it, when you're having a huge departure push and approach push at Sydney, identifying while handing off, and descending, you might miss someone's vector for Sydney. I know this has happened to me before, I could handle departures and arrivals, but vectoring was quite hard and easy to forget.

At the end of the day if you miss someone's vector it isn't the end of the world just do a quick u-ie and then problem solved. It's been what like 4 years since that NOTAM and no one else has had any problems with Dep and App so I wouldn't see a point to change it when it's not broken.

Yep! The last couple of Mondays I've logged on as DEP, as Sydney tower ground approach, WOL SNO and vice versa for Melbourne, I think that opening director would be better for the approach controller. Let's think about it, vectoring aircraft to the Iva of ILS is more of a workload then identifying departures, and bring aircraft on the first part of approach.

I think having Director on would take the fun away from Approach. Everyone is stress tested to deal with vectoring and departures during sweatbox (Or atleast I was) If you can't maintain that level of traffic from arrivals and departures which isn't much for MRM compared to events like FNO then you really shouldn't be on APP for MRM.

    Hi Tristan,

If people were to stay in the Sydney metro area, they would be spending upwards of 2 hours on the train each way traveling up and down.

    It's a bit unnecessary imo

I'd rather buy someones house than drive 2 hours each day especially in Sydney I can imagine how hellish that is

  9. On August 24th the Hong Kong VACC will be hosting our first real ops event. We welcome all pilots to fly in and out of the Hong Kong Control Area where full ATC will be provided.

We recommend that everyone make a booking on the website listed below in order to help us plan better and it allows you to fly a real route that will be departing around the same time. However, you are not required to make a booking on here in order to fly during the event. Using the website will allow us to see whether pilots are interested in these types of events and if they like using this system.

    Booking:https://vhhk.realops.vatgoodies.com/events/hong-kong-real-ops

    When: August 24th, 2019 1200Z - 1600Z
    Where: Hong Kong International Airport
    Charts: http://www.vatsim.hk/

Please email all feedback to [email protected]

I can help with that phraseology part, there is no documented procedural tower phraseology I can find, although I can find phraseology on non radar approach in the 7110 which I assume would be used here.

Out of curiosity what is the phraseology for non radar? And how much does it differ from what's in the procedural tower course?

Where's the bottom chart from? Is that Jeppesen?

Yeah, I did see mention of the Class D in the TPP, but not the echo. I suspect it's a 700 ft E transition step, but I haven't seen it documented anywhere so don't know.

Navigraph which I believe is Jepp

  12. As far as im aware PKWA Is the only actual controlled airport within the Islands with the others being CTAF. Seems the US DOD might have some more details kicking around.

Also this airport has both class E and D which ends just before the trans alt

If we can now just get approval from VATPAC to add it to our standard facilities list.

I prepared a VRC sector file last year in the hope HCF would take it on.  And I was soooo up the wrong tree.

    so let’s open it up!

If it got approved, that would be great! I can whip up some unofficial sectors for the airport for ES, and I'm sure it would be an interesting place for Iron Mic! Any comment on its possible approval @Callum Strawbridge ?

  14. After reading through some random parts of the VATSIM website I came accross this section: http://prntscr.com/o4sv4q

With this being said the only airport within the Marshall Islands that is really a controlled airport is Kwajalein Atoll. I understand this isn't under the VATPAC ATC Positions but are there any plans on doing anything with it? I'd love to do an Iron Mic out there if it's possible and encourage some traffic through the area.

    Cheers,

  15. Hi,

After last weeks very successful Iron Mic at Nouvelle-Calédonie Aéroport de Nouméa - La Tontouta I've decided to chuck up some AIP documents from both Vanuatu and NC. This has some local phraseology included in it as well as some quite cool info which helped us make the environment a lot like the real thing. With the upcoming Pacific Islands event it would the perfect time to put some of this new phraseology to use.

As well as this here are some new altimeter procedures that have been introduced into the New Caledonia sector of the Nadi FIR. For reference of the different TMA Numbers and Trans Levels that would apply please check below.

Happy flying and thanks for all the traffic last week! We hope to see you out in the Pacific Islands soon!
