Cross the Ditch 17: Summer 2019 Celebrating ten years of Crossing the Ditch! All eyes are on Wellington, as VATSIM's pilots connect New Zealand's capital to three great Australian airports. December is the time for all pilots to taste the Southern Summer and Cross the Ditch! Check out the official Cross the Ditch website Apply to provide ATC Book your Flights now! View the Event Schedule Check out the Virtual Airline Leaderboard Grab the recommended add-on scenery for each of the event airports What's it all about? For twenty hours this December, the skies over the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand will be filled with aircraft all on a mission to Cross the Ditch. An example of that typical down-under understatement, this "ditch" is over 1100nm wide. The flight routes all range from three to four hours flight time. Throughout the event, the Oceania region's two divisions – VATNZ and VATPAC – will be providing full ATC coverage, in the Southern Hemisphere's premiere oceanic event. This is a great opportunity to experience Oceanic flying without the need to commit to an eight-hour flight! If you're new to Oceanic Flying, our reporting tool makes taking part a breeze. Event Times This twenty hour event is timed to allow pilots from all over the world join the fun: UTC: Saturday 14th December 2019 17:00 - Sunday 15th December 2019 13:00 AEDT: Sunday 15th December 2019 04:00 - Monday 16th December 2019 00:00 NZDT: Sunday 15th December 2019 06:00 - Monday 16th December 2019 02:00 Waves This season's event is organised in waves. Each airport will have a set departure window, during which time flights will be able to leave for the next destination. As the window closes, the departure window will open at the next destination. Given each of the flights is 3 - 4hrs in length, the previous wave's flights will be arriving at the same airport as the next wave departs, maximising the amount of traffic at each airport. NOTE: in order to ensure that you have ATC coverage throughout your flight, you MUST fly the wave route that is active at the time of your departure. The individual routes are designed to ensure as much opposing traffic enroute as possible. Each flight passes from one Oceania division to the other, and the result is six mini-flyins over the course of twenty hours! The Waves for Cross the Ditch 17 - Summer 2019 are: Wave Flight Departure Window UTC AEDT NZDT 1 Wellington (NZWN) to Brisbane (YBBN) 1700-1930 0400-0630 0600-0830 2 Brisbane (YBBN) to Wellington (NZWN) 1930-2330 0630-1030 0830-1230 3 Wellington (NZWN) to Avalon (YMAV) 2230-0300 0930-1400 1130-1600 4 Avalon (YMAV) to Wellington (NZWN) 0200-0630 1300-1730 1500-1930 5 Wellington (NZWN) to Canberra (YSCB) 0500-0930 1600-2030 1800-2230 Calling all Pilots and Controllers Flight plans are available from the Flight Plans section. Book your flights now from the Flight Bookings page. Bookings made on this site help us plan for the event, and will also show up in vroute. Controllers wanting to get in on the action can also apply now at the event's ATC Applications page.

  3. YES! The event did flop through the overnight! 32 Hours of full ATC just required more controllers than we had to offer. Hopefully the next time through we can fully staff the event the whole way through. With that said I'd still love to thank those who were able to come out and control, rostered and not, for you guys are the ones who make these events happen. I know that for the first portion of day 1 there was quite a lot of traffic inbound providing more than enough fun for everyone involved. Once again, thank you everyone for your efforts and until the next time!

Welcome to the latest VATPAC Iron Mic attempt featuring Canberra! Canberra airport is the major airport serving Australia's capital city and features several domestic destinations and a couple of international ones too, placing it as Australia's 8th busiest airport. Join us from September 30th to October 6th as we attempt to take home yet another Iron Mic. The following positions will be the primary positions: CB_TWR CB_APP ML-SNO_CTR To give us the best chance possible, please logon to the above positions at Canberra prior to occupying others. Remember, There are no reserved positions so if one of the above positions is available, logon! What is Iron Mic? Iron Mic is a weekly competition that VATSIM holds to recognizes the positions with the most hours logged on the network. It is broken into 3 categories; TWR, APP and CTR. The position in each category that logs the most online hours over a 7 day period wins the Iron Mic. Iron Mic runs from 0000z on Monday to 2359z on Sunday (0859 Monday AEDT) How do we know about our progress? Click on this link (http://fsmine.dhis.org/stats/showstats.cgi) to view all the VATSIM ATC stats for the week. Remember, Our aim is to keep the TWR, APP and CTR positions open as much as possible. Coordinate with other controllers to ensure maximum coverage of the Canberra positions. You can do this on Facebook, Teamspeak or the forums. VATSIM has set out a few rules regarding Iron Mic which can be viewed here https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11100 If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Good Luck VATPAC!
