It’s the end of the month and Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This week we are taking you from New Zealand, to Australia as we commemorate those who shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old. Fly from Wellington (NZWN) to Canberra (YSCB) and Sydney (YSSY) with full expectations of ATC Services throughout your flight! Please Note: Depart NZWN between 06-09z. Arrival ATC will be online from 08-12z in Australia! Routes: We recommend the following routes between Wellington, Canberra and Sydney. NZWN - YSCB: TANEN M636 SASRO M636 PLUGA DCT RAZZI NZWN - YSSY: TANEN M636 PLUGA RIKNI N774 MARLN Flying in Oceanic Airspace: Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air. Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by Oceanic ATC. All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio" One of the significant differences between radar and oceanic flying is the need for position reports. Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them. The standard format is: Current/Previous waypoint name and the time you crossed that point. Current Flight Level Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, Flight Level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next." You can use the Oceanic Reporting Tool to help construct oceanic position reports. Find more information regarding Oceanic Procedures here. Controllers: Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control. You know it’s the end of the month when Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This Easter, we are bringing back the popular Easter Egg Hunt! On the 1st of April, depart Sydney in search of 3 easter eggs at three differrent airports inside the great state of New South Wales. The first pilot to identify, fly to and land at each airport wins! Hints for where these airports will be released on the VATPAC Discord. Edition Details: The Idea of this Edition of Spilled Milk Run Monday is similar to the Easter Egg Hunt we did last year. From 0800z, one hint will be released every 30 minutes on the VATPAC Discord providing 3 different hints, one for each of the three different airport locations. Pilots then depart Sydney in search for the airports. Once a pilot lands at the airport they believe the Easter egg is at, they take a screenshot and post it in the VATPAC Discord's Event Channel. The first pilot to correctly land and take a screenshot at each airport wins! Pilots and controllers must follow the relevant criteria below in order to be eligible to win a prize! Edition Details: thanks to the generous donations of some of the VATPAC staff, there will be four prizes up for grabs during the Easter egg hunt. The prizes are as follows: Pilots: 3 x €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Vouchers - 1 per airport Controllers: 1 x €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Voucher - all eligible controllers will be added to a draw and randomly selected to win the prize. In order to be eligible to win one of the prizes pilots and controllers must follow the following procedures: Pilots: All pilots must depart Sydney (YSSY) and remain online and connected for the duration of the flight Pilots must not use any sim rate enhancement at any time. Doing so will automatically result in disqualification. Pilots must follow all controller instructions and not take purposeful shortcuts or refuse sequencing to try and shorten the duration of their flight. VATPAC events staff, senior staff and directors are not eligible to win pilot prizes. Pilots must not use high performance aircraft to reduce their flights duration. This includes fighter jets, high altitude / speed airliners such as the Concorde, or any other aircraft purposely chosen for an unrealistic speed advantage. Upon arrival at the chosen airfield, pilots must post a screenshot on the VATPAC discord #events channel showing their simulator, and a tracking software (Volanta, Simaware) with the flight plan showing the whole flight and tag an event coordinator. Pilots are only eligible to receive one (1) prize. Pilot can only depart Sydney once the first hint is released. All flights to correct airports will be closely tracked by Event Coordinators. If a member of the events team believes your flight was not in observance of the above criteria, or that you had any form of unfair advantage, they may deem you ineligible to receive a prize. Controllers: All rostered and unrostered controllers who contributed for at least one hour will be considered for the prize Controllers not active for the duration of their rostered period (without a valid excuse) will be ineligible for the draw Controllers who already received a pilot prize will not be eligible for the draw At the close of the event the winners of each category will be announced. Controllers: Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control. BN-ARL_CTR ML-YWE_CTR ML-BIK_CTR SY_APP SY_TWR SY_GND SY_DEL *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. Welcome to the next rendition from the Light Up series, Light up Queensland! It is time to pull out those regional aircraft or commercial airliners and explore Australia's tropical paradise, as we attempt to provide the most realistic ATC services for you as you travel to the many stunning destinations that Queensland has to offer. From the bustling city of Brisbane to the beauty of the Whitsundays and tropical north, Queensland is a spectacle of natural wonder! What is Light Up Queensland? This event revolves around one of our older events (Regionals and Twins) with the idea being to provide ATC services to more regional locations around the country. Our regional towns don't get the love like the big cities do, so let's change that! Travel to those often-forgotten destinations and provide controllers and pilots alike a different challenge—a chance to fly into an unfamiliar location and try an approach other than the usual ILS approach. During this event, you will receive an Outside Control Airspace Service (OCTA) Services at some of Queenslands lesser known fields from an overlying ENR Controller. Suggested Major Routes: Queensland has so much to offer and explore! Whether your flight is high or low, fast or slow, there are plenty of routes to fly. Find some of our suggested routes below, bearing in mind that Pilots are more than welcome to fly other routes from other destinations! Charts for all airports can be found here. 16. In collaboration with Singapore VACC, Indonesia VACC, and VATSEA; VATPAC is delighted to invite you to the Perth -> Singapore Shuttle! Fly from Perth Airport to Singapore Changi Airport with full ATC from 0700z-1400z on the 14th of October 2023! Event Details: A shuttle event is where we invite pilots and controllers to fly from the defined departure airport, to the defined arrival airport with the expectation of full ATC along the way! We invite you to depart from Perth Airport (YPPH) between 0700z-0900z on the 14th of October 2023, inbound to Singapore Changi Airport (WSSS), as we attempt to test out our talented controlling team! Below you will find the recommended route between the two airfields, as well as information for your departure and arrival! Routes: VATPAC, VATSEA, Indonesia VACC and Singapore VACC recommend the following route when flying between Perth and Singapore. YPPH -> WSSS: ROUTE: PH AVNEX N752 PLB G579 REPOV DEPARTURE: Airservices DAP ARRIVAL: Expect REPOV1A or REPOV1B Remember the departure slot for YPPH is between 0700z- 0900z! Departure from Perth: Pilots departing from Perth Airport (YPPH), can expect to depart from either RWY 03 or RWY 21, depending on wind direction and traffic levels. Click here to find all charts for YPPH. Arrival from Singapore: Upon Arrival into Singapore Changi Airport (WSSS), pilots can expect either the REPOV1A or REPOV1B followed by an ILSapproach into either Runways 02L or 20R. RNP and visual approaches are available on request subject to traffic disposition. ATC will assign the approach type nominated in the ATIS but you may request a different approach type if you are up for the challenge. We ask that you are familiar with the approach type you select. If you are unfamiliar with these operations you can request vectors from the Approach controller to ensure you capture the localiser. Click here to find all charts for WSSS. Flying in Oceanic Airspace: Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air. Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by oceanic ATC. All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio", there is no "Melbourne Radio", so ML-IND_FSS is called "Brisbane Radio". One of the significant differences between radar and Oceanic flying is the need for position reports. The standard format is: Current/Previous waypoint name and the time which you crossed that point. Current flight level. Mach number if assigned by ATC. Find more information here. Air Traffic Control: Controllers interested in controlling the event are encouraged to submit their ATC Applications here. Applications will remain open until three days before the event (11OCT23), after which the roster will be released and available for viewing. Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the Standard positions are filled. Please see a member of staff or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorised. 19. Have you made a VATSIM account, but feel intimidated every time you try to speak on the frequency? Or have you yet to make an account in fear that you haven't got what it takes yet? Then this is the event for you! At busy airports, or events, it can be a little tricky to learn and get used to the pace. To help overcome that VATSIM created the First Wings events, dedicated to helping pilots get used to the phraseology, the procedures, and what is expected of them. For this edition, we will be flying in Australia. Flying from Brisbane (YBBN) to Canberra (YSCB), departing both airports from 0700-0900z. Both before and during the event experienced and patient controllers and pilots will be on the VATSIM Discord to help answer any questions you have. You may join the discord through https://community.vatsim.net/. If you do not use Discord, VATSIM Supervisors will be on hand during the events, and can at any time be reached via a .wallop command in vPilot/xPilot. These events will from now on be held on a regular basis, with one edition occurring on the second weekend of each month. To allow everyone to participate, regardless of their timezone, the location of the event rotates every month, passing through all corners of the World. Event Details: Newbie pilots who want to learn and gain confidence flying on the VATSIM network with live ATC. Experienced controllers who are patient and willing to help newbie pilots on the network. The event commences at 0700z with ATC requested/available until around 1100z. It is recommended you book a slot using the VATSIM booking system, although it is not mandatory. Please be aware that you may experience delays if you fly an event route without a slot. Slots will be available from 0700-0900z on 17 September 2023. Departures after 09z may not recieve full ATC services. December brings summer weather to the South Pacific, complete with scorching sun, soaring temperatures, and more than a few thunderstorms. For VATSIM's pilots and controllers the answer is obvious: it's time to once again take to the virtual skies and Cross the Ditch! What's it all about? For twenty hours this December, the skies over the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand will be filled with aircraft all on a mission to Cross the Ditch. An example of that typical down-under understatement, this "ditch" is over 1100nm wide. The flight routes all range from two and a half to three and a half hours flight time. Throughout the event, Oceania's two divisions – VATNZ and VATPAC – will be providing full gate-to-gate ATC coverage, in the Southern Hemisphere's premiere oceanic event. This is a great opportunity to experience Oceanic flying without the need to commit to an eight-hour flight! If you're new to Oceanic Flying, our reporting tool makes taking part a breeze. Event Times This twenty hour event is timed to allow pilots from all over the world to join the fun: UTC: Saturday 3rd December 2022 17:00 - Sunday 4th December 2022 13:00 AEDT: Sunday 4th December 2022 04:00 - Monday 5th December 2022 00:00 NZDT: Sunday 4th December 2022 06:00 - Monday 5th December 2022 02:00 Waves This season's event is organised in waves. Each airport will have a three-to-four-and-a-half hour departure window, during which time flights will be able to leave for the next destination. As the window closes, the departure window will open at the next destination. Given each of the flights is 3 - 4.5hrs in length, the previous wave's flights will be arriving at the same airport as the next wave departs, maximising the amount of traffic at each airport. NOTE: in order to ensure that you have ATC coverage throughout your flight, you MUST fly the wave route that is active at the time of your departure. The individual routes are designed to ensure as much opposing traffic enroute as possible. Each flight passes from one Oceania division to the other, and the result is six mini-flyins over the course of twenty hours! The Waves for Cross the Ditch 23: Summer 2022 are: Wave Flight Departure Window UTC AEDT NZDT 1 Wellington, New Zealand (NZWN) to Brisbane, Australia (YBBN) 1700-2000 0400-0700 0600-0900 2 Brisbane, Australia (YBBN) to Dunedin, New Zealand (NZDN) 2000-2330 0700-1030 0900-1230 2a Brisbane, Australia (YBBN) to Christchurch, New Zealand (NZCH) (Large Aircraft Alternate) 2000-2330 0700-1030 0900-1230 3 Dunedin, New Zealand (NZDN) to Canberra, Australia (YSCB) 2330-0300 1030-1400 1230-1600 3a Christchurch, New Zealand (NZCH) to Canberra, Australia (YSCB) (Large Aircraft Alternate) 2330-0300 1030-1400 1230-1600 4 Canberra, Australia (YSCB) to Christchurch, New Zealand (NZCH) 0230-0630 1330-1730 1530-1930 5 Christchurch, New Zealand (NZCH) to Newcastle, Australia (YWLM) 0530-0930 1630-2030 1830-2230 Calling all Pilots and Controllers Flight plans are available from the Flight Plans section.
