  1. For the last couple of days I can not connect to ATC, It has all worked perfectly before, now nothing. I uninstalled, redownloaded and installed VPilot, added all my usual settings. Changed the server to USA West, -   and still - nothing.

I see others are connected, Any ideas please?

    Thanks

    @John Khan hey mate.

The use of the double callsign at the start and end of the call in class G is (from my understanding) to ensure a pilot knows for which region the pilot is talking from.

IRL some CTAF frequencies can be for a number of aerodromes so ensuring everyone is on the same page about where the person is calling from is beneficial :)

Seems to be what I said. If there are other airports in an area, then say the airport at the end.

If we are about to push, or  taxi or something at a major airport, then it is unnecessary.

  3. Hi

There is a system in place, I believe, where the calls at an airport start with.... -  "Sydney traffic" ....information to transmit........... and also end with "Sydney traffic". - Or whatever airport we are at. This, obviously, is only when any local ATC is not in operation. Not in real life as it always is.

I used to do some flying for real some years ago when  the call would be ,,,,,

"Swan Hill Stations, -  CFV at 6000, 20 miles south inbound for arrival runway XX". Sometimes giving an ETA if the airport is busy.

If there might be any conflict or doubt then repeat the airport name again. I think the repeating of the airport comes from the USA where, in a lot of areas there are multiple airports in close proximity in urban and regional areas.

When we are at a major airport, even without ATC, I really don't think it is necessary to repeat the name after the information is transmitted.

As we now have the voice servers and they seem to have transmission range built in and, in real flying, I might be out of date with this as things might have changed, but common sense seems to indicate that. Again, and obviously, if there caould be a misunderstanding, then repeat the airport name, but if it is obvious, don't.

  4. It is now 14th. July. I did a flight yesterday and was told Vatspy is now working.

I re-downloaded and reinstalled and tried it but again I am getting the same errors and nothing will start.

My simulator time is set correctly and everything else is the same as before when Vatspy worked fine.

    Any ideas?

  5. OK Thanks muchly Cam, I'll wait for the results. I'm out in the boonies at present, Port Keats so9 probably not too many controllers out here. :-)

Completely off this topic, I have written a small excel app to calculate times and distance for descent for those who don't always fly the "Push button abd take me ro Sydney" aircraft. I'll add it to this. If you think it might be useful ,

    Cheers

  6. My Vatspy has been disconnecting all the time with, apparently, no servers, or something.

I restart it and the same thing happens. So I re-downloaded and re-installed it and now it doesn't work at all.

    Everything worked fine before.

  7. Lovely, thanks Trent

I have all that copied and saved and will copy and paste as necessary.

RTF is very old I think, when we still had to say...."Over"....

I always thought those "/" dividers are in funny places, sort of in the middle of the separate information items. That explains it.

I have tried to get selcal codes for the Qantas aircraft but it wont let me register for some reason. The ones from Quality Wings for the 787s seem to be wrong.

I am a member of BAV and they have a complete list of their selcal codes for every aircraft.

The Blue Streak never worked anyhow. :-)

  8. Thanks Will and Joshua

And Richard, I know what you mean, I was online with you at Easter when that XME... turned up.

I saw this after Googling this online-

    H-SADE1E2E3FGHIJ1J3J5J6LM1M2OP2RWXY/LB1D1G1
    PBN/A1B1C1D1L1O1S2T1 NAV/RNVD1E2A1 DAT/1FANSP2PDC RNP2 SUR/RSP180 DOF/YYMMDD REG/XXXXX EET/........ SEL/HP-BL CODE/406D77 OPR/XXXXX PER/D RALT/... RVR/075 RMK/LAHSO NOT AUTHORISED TCAS

Please note I have XXXXed out some specific information, but to say I think it was a real BA flight remarks.

What on earth does that all mean?.......... (except for the obvious, REG, SEL etc.

Can I suggest that a standard is set for the remarks section? Something like what Joshua suggests above, and this can be published on you, or Vatsim, site for everyone to use. I think it would look very professional, and help controllers at all times but particularly when they are absolutely swamped, as was the case at Easter.

On a personal note, I have a vision disability which makes it difficult for me to read print. Maybe something like that could be added as a RMK/.

  9. Hi

I have been checking out the online flight plans, all over the world, and notice a variety of differences in the "Remarks" sections. Some VAs have notations of what to put in this section, others have nothing. Some years ago I was a member of a local VA which always specified what should go into this section fpr each flight. Or rather, I think more for each aircraft.

I understand we are in virtual situations and a lot of the stuff is not necessary, unlike real world situations where the controllers have to know certain thing about a flight operation.

I have seen incredibly complicated remark, and have no idea what most of it means, or whether it is necessary for us. I can give an example if necessary, for someone to explain.

I am  interested in what should actually be in there, for the controllers' information, in our situations.

    Regards
