  1. Hey there VATPAC users, i am starting to get really close on the amount of money i am aiming for to get my New Gaming PC. I run FSX with all of the popular addons, Eg: Orbx Scenery, Rex 4 Texture Direct, Qualitywings 787, Etc. my price range on my new PC is from $700 to $900. I dont know a lot about PC's, so i was wondering if some of you guys could help me pick the parts for my new PC.

    Whaddup Jacob,

Make sure you read all of this. Don't miss a word.

I have a parts list here that I made. It uses the new AMD Ryzen Raven Ridge CPU. I don't know how FSX will handle Ryzen but I'm sure it'll be fine and it's good for other games too. The CPU has inbuilt Vega 11 graphics in it so you won't need a GPU. You could spend a few extra $100 if you want a GPU but you should be fine. The CPU comes with an AMD Cooler so you won't need a third-party cooler. It has an Asus Prime A320M-K (lol A320 ;D) Motherboard, you could go a few extra and upgrade if need be. RAM prices are sky high these days so I've gone with a 2x4GB DDR4-3000 kit from Team T-Group. That should do you fine. Again, you could spend a few extra to go for a 2x8GB kit. I've given you three storage options. I recommend to use all three. The Western Digital M.2 SSD which holds 120GB can be used for your boot drive (Your OS goes there) and a few games. The Crucial MX500 which holds 500GB can house FSX and if there's a few extra it can hold a few more programs (samegoes for the WD M.2 SSD). The Western Digital 1TB HDD can be used for mass storage like photos and other programs. The case is a real simple case. The Deepcool Tesseract SW Mid Tower. Not bad. The Power Supply is not bad. It's fully modular so you can put away the cables you don't use. I do not know if you need a wireless network adapter or not but I've given you on in the list anyway. If you use an ethernet cable you can get rid of that. The case fans are there to keep the case and parts cooled. You can get rid of it if you want. Those are just extra. Again, you can upgrade some of these parts if you want, like the motherboard, RAM or case. All of this totals to $897 + shipping costs etc. That's all I have, good luck. Ignore the warning, it should be fine. Make sure to watch some guides on Youtube about building the PC and about the CPU as this CPU is different to the others. You could also scavenge for second hand parts on PC Parts Buy Swap Sell Groups on Facebook (there are plenty of those sorts with ones in your home region too) or Gumtree. You are most likely to find cases, old CPUs, motherboards, DDR3 and 2 RAM etc. You should be looking for second hand cases and case fans. Be safe, don't get scammed. Again, here is the link to the part list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Z72WZR

    Good luck!

  2. For these you need a good weather engine.  Unfortunately you have to pay for these and when you get one, you'll appreciate what you are paying for.

Yeah. It's only around $30 to $60. If I can remember the cheapest price for AS2016 was around $45. Although, if anyone uses the Steam Edition of FSX and doesn't mind using ASN it's only $30.

  3. Hi everyone,

Now I know there are few weather engines out there that are very good quality and worth the money but my question is, what is the best weather engine out there that corresponds with VATSIM's weather (Credit to Peter Benson and everyone in Room 1 at 3:00pm today). Correct me if I'm wrong but is VATSIM's weather not realtime?

    Feel free to discuss this.

    Thanks,

  4. Its not just Pilots!! When I was doing a flight from Singapore to Sydney a few months back I used a flightaware flightplan of the actual flight I was doing (airline/acft etc) and Singapore Tower told me I had filled the wrong plan and proceeded to give me one which took me to some weird and strange places including a track from PKS to Bik and in via Odale and when I queried where he obtained this he told me PFPX LOL, I politely corrected his slight error in flight planning, so sorry peoples you've wasted your money on that program to who has purchased it (IMO)

That's why you update the AIRAC for PFPX from Navigraph. PFPX works fine for me and it was really worth it. You just need to know how to use it properly, unlike this controller  ;D PFPX doesn't have to build the route for you. There are many websites and programs out there such as routefinder and flightaware (as you said). Maybe ask him how it's invalid. Any flightplan from flightaware can't be invalid

  5. Good to see some more real world pilots flying on VATSIM. I am looking to start flying mainly VFR around Australia, flying into some of those mostly unactive Class-D aerodromes, such as Bankstown, Archerfield, Moorabbin, and also visiting some CTAF aerodromes such as Bathurst, Orange and even Katoomba. I am think of doing this on Thursday evenings at 1000z, when there are no events on. Feel free to join if you see me on.

We should do some on Saturday if there are no events for "Schoolers" who can't fly on a school night. Get more people involved in VFR

  6. Hello Chris,

Welcome to VATPAC (even though I'm not a staff member but we're in the community anyway 8)), I recommend going and reading some pilot stuff at http://operations.vatpac.org/. That will start you going at some of the procedures and phraseology in Australia. Hope to see you soon when I'm controlling or flying!

    Cheers, Theodore Pham - 1326978  :)

  7. Hey guys,

I was wondering wether to put in the ATIS "Advise you have Info ..." OR "On initial contact with TWR or APP Notify Receipt ..." I was observing recently and I usually saw Tower controllers in VATPAC using "Advise you have Info ..."

And I also saw "Readback all hold short instructions" which is used in America?

Thanks for replying, Theodore Pham  :)
