What a sick guy. Although the start of our group flight (around 5-6) was a bit dead, we were given top-quality ATC service with our approach into Adelaide. 10/10 would fly again.

And we see @Cameron Wilbraham pop up again! Very obvious he's doing something right!! Keep it up Cam.

  2. Congratulations to Charlie who is the latest controller to join the radar ranks.

It was a fantastic performance from Charlie who showed true professionalism for the duration and assessment and will make a great controller in the future I'm sure.

Well done Charlie see you on the scope shortly!

Rob Hooley is one of the nicest and best controllers I've had, me and a mate going from YPMQ-YSTW helped out heaps and made me and the mate have a really pleasant experience, will definitely wanna fly more when Rob is on.

Nice one Rob! Showing the young guys how its done. Keep it up!

  5. Hello all,

It is with sadness that I wish to advise the community that Tracy has handed in his resignation as a Senior Instructor so he can retire from VATPAC staff roles effective 1st July 2020.

Tracy has spent the better part of a decade spent climbing through various ranks and roles at VATPAC so he wishes to step away from VATPAC and quote, "enjoy the downhill run". I would now like to take this time to say a massive thank you to you Tracy for your work and commitment to not just the ATC Training Department but VATPAC as a whole. You've trained a fair amount of students in your time Tracy and its something to be very proud of.

You've been a big part of the training department for quite a number of years both training and assessing. So on behalf of myself, VATPAC and previous ATC Training Directors, I'd like to thank you for the number of hours you've committed to training VATPAC controllers.

Flying from YSCB -> YSSY today for Milkrun Monday and the center service is amazing. You can just hear the stress in Cam's voice as he is saying every message. He is handling all the aircraft exmtremely well. I have heard he wakes up early just to control over here and its amazing.

Once again we see @Cameron Wilbraham getting great ATC feedback. Always great to see positive feedback Cam well done keep it up!

  8. Depends if you're aircraft is RVSM capable or not. if its the default then I would suggest yes if its the PMDG then definitely.

If so you need to refer to the RVSM section of the table.

    image.png.85ee37475306dac33d6178ca3391c609.png

vPilot has an inbuilt Mode C transponder ✔️

But does the aircraft you're flying have GNSS or RNAV capabilities built into it? If not I would suggest /W if it has both (PMDG) then it would be /L.

Hope that helps, I'm sure there would be members on here who are more familiar with FAA equipment codes than I am.

    Dear VATPAC,

My first time flying down in Australia and what an amazing experience it was! Being a rather experienced London Controller, I am very much a Europe boy who doesn't like to go outside his comfort zone.

It was an absolutely fabulous stream with so many people joining in on the flights and so many viewers loving the ATC in the stream - it really did make the day yesterday! I will be back to do more flying with you guys very soon on stream. Give me a ping if you have got an exam that you need traffic for - sure we can sort something out!

Thank you - you legends ❤️

    Cheers,

    Jamie Paine - 1284743 | LondonController

Well done to all the controllers who provided ATC last night its awesome to see this kind of feedback coming through keep it up!!

I was watching James' first session as an S2. From the moment he logged on to ML_TWR he was slammed with 15 outbound aircraft in about 45 minutes, all but one were flying the same route accompanying a popular streamer. Fair to say that James made the rest of us who were on ATC look like the amateurs we are, lol. An absolutely awesome TWR masterclass!

Well done @James Hennell great to see you already making your mark on the network in such a small about of time and showing up the old boys!

It certainty looks like you've done this before!

On Milkrun Monday, during a very busy time in Melbourne, I decided I really wanted to mess things up by doing a touch and go in a C172. Except, Ryan was on APP and handled it like a boss. 10 aircraft in his airspace all on the LIZZI arrival for 16 and I was over the CBD. He managed to separate us all and slotted me in for a touch and go. He was on top of everyone and no one asked for clarifications. Impecible job.

Well done Ryan keep it up!

What's Happening in the Department at the Moment?

    12 Month Plan Released

The ATC Training Department recently released their 12-Month plan at the May VATPAC Town Hall meeting. The following items were on the agenda for the ATC Training Department for the next 12-Months.

    • Procedural Tower Course - Currently both Brett and Matt are working on updating the procedural tower course. This includes new videos and interactive that explain procedural tower concepts in greater detail.
    • Sydney Course - We will be making a new Sydney course. This includes how to control in Sydney and will have help from DEL through to APP. This will be an optional course to complete and will provide more information along with the LI’s.
    • New Mentoring Files - As discussed in the previous bulletin the ATC Training Department is working on creating new and updated mentoring files. We will be updating all the files to include a wide range of mentoring scenarios over a range of airports. This aims to make mentoring more realistic with updated callsigns and aircraft.
    • Refresher of the training courses with included training videos - Training videos will be created to include in every ATC training course that
the department provides. This will include a wide range of concepts that trainees might encounter when controlling. This will be a support to
theory and mentoring. We will also be redesigning the old courses and retiring them in due course.

We aim to get this out to the community as quickly as possible, however, with COVID-19 demand within the department is still quite high for this time of year so please be patient.

    Solo Endorsement Update

The trial Solo Endorsement period has now been completed. It has been decided by the VATPAC board and ATC Training Department to implement solo endorsement full time into the training syllabus. We have extended the trial period while we implement this and hope to have it as a permanent part of VATPAC ATC training as soon as possible. As always, if you have been controlled by a Solo Endorsement trainee or worked with them on the scope please be patient with them and provide feedback by going to feedback.vatpac.org and select 'ATC Training'.

    Controller Tutorials

A new section in the VATPAC website has appeared. What could it be?

That's right, controller tutorials! After high demand from the VATPAC Town Hall Meeting in May, a new section has been added to the VATPAC website with tutorials written for controllers by controllers. These documents and videos go alongside our VATPAC ATC Training documentation and I strongly encourage you to go read it. You can go check them out by looking under https://vatpac.org/controllers/tutorials/. As always you don't have to be a part of the ATC Training Team to make documents. Send anything you think might be useful for other controllers to Cam ([email protected]).

    LAHSO

Go check out VATPAC's Nick Falcione video on Land & Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) in Australia!

    Managing Landing and Departing Traffic

Go check out VATPAC's Greg Barbers extremely informative document on Managing Landing and Departing Traffic by clicking here.

Old Controller coming back to VATSIM?

Old controller coming back to VATPAC after a time away due to COVID-19? If this is the case, welcome back to VATPAC! The ATC Training Department is always here to help. If you require a quick refresher we will endeavour to accommodate your request. Email [email protected] if this sounds like you.

Remember, the VATPAC ATC Training Academy  and the VATPAC Local Procedures are always available to view at any time and we strongly encourage all controllers old or new to read these documents before going onto any ATC position.

    - Isaac Patman

    - Sean McCormack

    - Greg Barber

    - Ryan McDonald

Well done to all! Awesome feedback about our controllers, keep up the great work!
