  1. It's time for "The Bald and the Beautiful". Move over, soap operas – this drama unfolds on the runways of airports dotted in and around the Milk Run route, where your tires will unashamedly bare all whilst you showcase your elegant flying skills. Why? Because our friends at a leading aircraft tire manufacturer are in a serious tire pickle – their warehouse is bursting at the seams and they need your help to create some space. So, they're slashing prices up to 80% in a sale like never before! But of course, as with all sales, terms and conditions apply – you can only get the deal if you bring in your worn-out or damaged tires. Tires still got some life left? No discount for you! Fear not, because VATPAC has your back! To make sure you qualify for the discount, we've organized a special "Wear and Tear Touch and Go Extravaganza" (catchy, eh?) during your Monday Milk Run. Here's the deal: If you are flying ML-SYD, you're invited to perform two enroute touch and go's at Avalon (YMAV) and Canberra (YSCB), one touch and go at each airport. Your flight plan should be filed as: ML-YMAV-DOSEL-Y59-ARRAN-YSCB-CULIN-Y59-RIVET-TESAT If you are flying SYD-ML, you're invited to perform two enroute touch and go's at Shellharbour (YWOL) and Albury (YMAV), one touch and go at each airport. Your flight plan should be filed as: TESAT-YWOL-RAZZI-YMAY-Q29-ML Note that YWOL is an uncontrolled airport so you will need clearance to leave controlled airspace on descent into Class G. Whilst in the circuit, CTAF calls are to be made in order to avoid exchanging paint with other traffic. Clearance to re-enter controlled airspace is required on departure with whichever ATC is covering the sector at the time. If you've still got a little bit of wear left in your tires by the time you reach ML or SYD, further touch and go's may be available at the disrection of ATC. The inclusion of the full ICAO airport codes in your flight plan will be ATC's primary indication of your intention to participate however, all pilots are also requested to insert "POP-UP" in their flight plan remarks. The rules: Nose Gear Elegance: Your nose gear must do its best ballerina impression and stay off the ground during touch and go's. It's the main gear's time to shine! Long Live the Runway: For maximum tire drama, keep those main gear wheels locked onto the runway like they're on a date with destiny. The longer, the better! For extra "burn", you may wish to consider performing the flight as close to max landing weight as possible. Need for (Safe) Speed: We suggest performing touch and go's at max gear extension speed, minus 10 knots (because tire burnouts can be thrilling but let's keep it sane). Watch out for ATC speed restrictions – safety first, tire shopping second! Don't miss this wheel-y great opportunity to spice up your Monday Milk Run and snag yourself some tire-sational deals! #WearandTearTouchandGoExtravaganza #PopUpEventFun Screenshots/Videos are welcome in the #screenshots channel of the VATPAC Discord.

Welcome to the next installment of Newbie Night. This event offers the chance for inexperienced members to join experienced aviators and controllers and take to the virtual skies. Whether you're completely new to flight simulation or you've been flying for years but never connected to the VATSIM network, this is the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord. To Join the Discord visit this link. Event Details: Fly between Adelaide (YPAD) and Melbourne (YMML) in either direction to experience Class C and enroute airspace, with a bit of time to relax in cruise and enjoy the scenery. This flight is for: Newbie pilots who want to learn and gain confidence flying on the VATSIM network with live ATC. Experienced controllers who are patient and willing to help newbie pilots on the network. Experienced pilots who are patient and willing to assist newbie pilots through the VATPAC Discord. Flights will depart from 0800z (1800 AEST) with ATC requested/available until around 1200z (2200 AEST). We recommend planning to depart before 1030z (2030 AEST) to complete your flight with full ATC. Tutorials: This site has tutorials (see Help > Tutorials in the menu) which give an overview of flight and ATC procedures. An example of procedures between Class C airports in a radar environment can be found here: https://vatpac.org/help/pilot-tutorials/ifr-melbourne-to-sydney/ Routes: We recommend using the following routes which are suitable for a jet such as an Airbus A320, Boeing 737, regional jet or business jet, or a turboprop such as a Dash-8, ATR 72, Saab 340 or King Air. YPAD-YMML:Jet: DCT AD V255 BENDO Y12 ARBEY H119 ML DCT Nonjet: DCT AD V255 BENDO V211 PUBAP W291 WENDY V279 ML DCT YMML-YPAD:Jet and nonjet: DCT ML H345 AD DCT Charts: If you do not have charts they are available here: https://vats.im/pac/charts ATC:Controllers interested in controlling the event are encouraged to submit their ATC Applications here. Applications will remain open until three days before the event (24MAY23), after which the roster will be released and available for viewing. Please keep in mind that slot availability will be dependent on the number of applications. 5. It’s the end of the month and this time, instead of our usual Spilled Milk Run Monday, we are taking you to Sydney, Melbourne and Christchurch as we remember those who shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old for this year's ANZAC parade! Fly between Sydney (YSSY) or Melbourne (YMML) and Christchurch (NZCH) with full expectations of ATC Services throughout your flight from 0500z-1000z! Routes: We recommend the following routes between Sydney, Melbourne and Christchurch. YSSY – NZCH: DCT TESAT M636 PLUGA N750 CH DCT NZCH – YSSY: DCT VANDA N750 PLUGA DCT RIKNI N774 TESAT DCT YMML– NZCH: DCT ML Y260 ECKHO L508 CH DCT NZCH – YMML: DCT CH L508 MILLA P753 WAREN DCT Flying in Oceanic Airspace: Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air. Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by Oceanic ATC. All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio" One of the significant differences between radar and oceanic flying is the need for position reports. Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them. The standard format is: Current/Previous waypoint name and the time you crossed that point. Current Flight Level Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, Flight Level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next." You can use the Oceanic Reporting Tool to help construct oceanic position reports. Find more information regarding Oceanic Procedures here. Controllers: Controllers who wish to reserve a position to control during this event are encouraged to apply via https://events.vatpac.org/. After the controller roster is released on Monday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster. Positions that do not have a nominated controller (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control. *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the rostered positions are filled. Please see a member of the Board of Directors, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorized. Unfortunately I was away for Easter and missed this flight. Feel free to join any of the VFR Ops events. The next few will be quite relaxed with easy navigation and some spectacular scenery.
