Communications Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. FSCopilot/FSInn VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link. Swift Swift is a recent VATSIM Pilot Client alternative now released to the public as a beta release candidate. This pilot client is a one fits all alternative and will work with FSX, P3D V3/V4 and XPlane in either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux. This client, once installed and configured (not for the faint of heart - some guidance can be found in this video tutorial for those with X-Plane on Windows x64), also provides a capability for pilots to designate a private voice channel to allow communication with other pilots in the same voice channel. However, to do this requires a frequency over ride to be set allowing the client to ignore the set frequency instead providing text entry into a text box. Into this box the name of the voice room needs to be entered to enable voice communication. A voice room is typically in the form of "some.server.org/<Airport ICAO>". The server component is ALWAYS "rw1.vatpac.org". So this week's departure would use "rw1.vatpac.org/ygte". For airports without an airport ICAO it is typical to use VATPAC VFR Virtual voice room acccessed using 131.25 in FSINN. The equivalent for SWIFT is "rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr". Hello all, I have made a vPilot flight-plan for this event. To load it, you must be connected to the network; click "File Flight Plan"; click "Load..."; then locate the downloaded file I have attached. I believe this would be a good addition to the event as quite often supervisors are messaging pilots to file flightplans. If you require any help loading the flight plan or any questions about it, don't hesitate to contact me. Pheonix. YSBK-YSBK VFR FRIDAY.vfp

  22. Notice of Town Hall Meeting - 7 April 2019

Thanks to all that attended. Some of the highlights from last night... Q: are there plans for the smaller procedural airports to have local instructions? A: Yes, but not at the top of the list Q: What does the non exec directors do A: We currently have a young but passionate executive team leading the organisation. The role of the non execs is to support that team by providing them with guidance and wisdom and challenge their ideas. Q: Are there any plans for implementing a training system where controllers may access their own training notes and or use a roster a roster such as seeing other controllers and what rating they are A: Yes, we are developing a system that will allow students to access their training record. A controller roster will not be developed as this duplicates CERT. Members can access the latter by contacting VATSIM Membership. Q: Can e.g. a centre controller access tower information in Moodle without having to enrol in each course? E.g. quick reference guide as PDF A: We will explore this Q: Is there any plans for doing any Iron Mic's for pacific area airports such as Fiji, New Cali, Vanauatu and PNG airports? A: Yes, this is in consideration Q: Would the training department contemplate making the Procedural endorsement one that you have to do at least one sweatbox with? If I had done a sweatbox rather than just an exam or even mentoring sessions that would have been extremely useful. A: We are considering this at the moment Q: Any updates on discord A: A survey has been done recently on community views. The Board is continuing to consider this issue and there are a number of matters that the Board requires to be resolved before making a decision including how moderation will be improved. Q: Any updates on new codec A: VATSIM has announced that an open beta will commence soon. Applications are currently open to join this beta program.

Ladies and Gentleman, On Saturday 20th April 2019, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane welcomes VATUSA to Friday Night Ops. Kicking off at Friday 19th April 2019 at 2330z , So drop the juice box or the glass of whiskey and get your flight plans filed. VATPAC has your ATC Covered manning airspace between Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane! We invite and encourage you to fly between the three airports, In any order you wish. You should allow approx 1.5-2.5 hours flying time for Jets between any given pair. Flight Planning In Australia, flight plans are filed in the ICAO method, with the SID/STAR not included with the initial filing. This will be provided by ATC on contact with clearance delivery (for departure) and with Centre, usually just prior to initial descent clearance. In Sydney each different runway has it's own set of SID's, which can be hard to predict ahead of time. Due to this, the outbound route should start with "TESAT". TESAT is an RNAV waypoint located on the airfield, replacing the old VOR "SY" which has since been decommissioned in the real world as part of the Navigation Rationalization project which removed 179 ground-based navigation aids on the 26th of May 2016, meaning GNSS is now the primary means of navigation for all instrument flight rule aircraft and flight plans. Knowledge about deleting waypoints and closing route discontinuities in your FMS will be useful. Cheats include knowing the 2nd waypoint along the initial airway. Additionally be aware that ATC is likely to ammend the text of your route when giving clearance in the same manner as the Electronic Flight Strip is used in the real world. Once you file it, it's theirs. Flight Plan Route To help with filing your flight plan, we reccomend Simbrief as a free service additionally there is a number of payware flightplaning software Simbrief Flight Planning Software Recommended Routes With everything that has been said above VATPAC wishes to recommend a few routes to pilots that will be fully staffed during the event.
