THANKS FOR FLYING VATPAC WORLD DISCOVERY FLIGHTS JOIN US IN FLIGHT, IN OUR CHAT ROOM "DAILY FOCUS VFR" IN TEAMSPEAK 3.

Event Details
Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight.
Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations.
Distance : 175 nm
Est Flight Time : approx 75 mins
Aircraft : Single or twin engine aircraft such as Beechcraft Baron, Mooney Bravo or similar capable of 155 to 185 kias.
Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields.
FSCopilot/FSInn
VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link.

Swift
Swift is a recent VATSIM Pilot Client alternative now released to the public as a beta release candidate. This pilot client is a one fits all alternative and will work with FSX, P3D V3/V4 and XPlane in either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux. This client, once installed and configured (not for the faint of heart - some guidance can be found in this video tutorial for those with X-Plane on Windows x64), also provides a capability for pilots to designate a private voice channel to allow communication with other pilots in the same voice channel. However, to do this requires a frequency over ride to be set allowing the client to ignore the set frequency instead providing text entry into a text box. Into this box the name of the voice room needs to be entered to enable voice communication. A voice room is typically in the form of "some.server.org/<Airport ICAO>". The server component is ALWAYS "rw1.vatpac.org". So this week's departure would use "rw1.vatpac.org/<Airport ICAO>".
For airports without an airport ICAO it is typical to use VATPAC VFR Virtual voice room acccessed using 131.25 in FSINN. The equivalent for SWIFT is "rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr".
Altitude : Remain clear of Hamilton Island and Mackay Class D airspace without prior clearance from any ACTIVE ATC
Flightplan
File as : YBHM YWSY YHAB YBWN YCSV YSUT RDHI YMRB
GPS Flightplan is available for FSX and X-Plane FMS and also provided is the original Plan-G flightplan for those that find this useful all enclosed within a Zip archive.
Navigation : Pilots familiar with the area can navigate visually, for those less familiar the accompanying GPS Flightplan is the recommended method of navigating the flight plan.
Navigation : Pilots have a choice of alternatives for this flight. There is the obligatory accompanying flight plan for those that embrace the latest technology. For the more adventurous pilots the radial and distances are provided allowing the flight to be navigated using ground based radio and visual navigation techniques.

This event begins 05/06/19 and repeats every week on Monday for 2 occurrences

By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

Note - The FSX P3D flightplan does not support starting a plan at an unrecognised airport such as YFNE Finke. To work around this short coming the plan has intentionally be prepared to commence from distant YOOD Oodnadatta where the first waypoint is YFNE Finke. The first leg should be entirely ignored and the flight should commence at the first waypoint.

The Ozx scenery depicting YFNE Finke the departure airport is not in the simulation database and as such pilots will be unable to spawn themselves at the departure airport. For those that flew on Friday and remembered to save the situation can use this to place themselves at the airport. For those without a saved situation a work around is to spawn at any airport, load the accompanying FSX/P3D flightplan and accept being located at the departure airport. Doing this will place the plane at YOOD Oodnadatta. From that location, open the simulation map then drag the plane to the first waypoint in the depicted plan. Ensure to close the map by clicking okay. This should relocate the plane in the vicinity of the airport in the scenery. Use slew and an overhead view to place the aircraft at the departure airport.

These files can be obtained via this link.
For pilots connecting to VATSIM using VPilot, there is a work around that enables these pilots to also take advantage of online voice CTAF. Refer to this informative VATPAC Forum post to learn how to implement the work around. Similarly, this work around has been reported to be successfully adopted for X-Plane using the X-Squawkbox client. As of yet there are no available instructions for doing this.

Event Details
Simulation Date/Time : Current date set to daylight.
Weather : Real World / Fair weather if real world is unsuitable for VFR operations.
Distance : 97 nm
Est Flight Time : approx 65 mins
Aircraft : Single or twin engine aircraft such as Cessna C172, Orion Maule, Britten-Island Normander or similar capable of 105 to 125 kias.
Communications : Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link.
Swift
Swift is a recent alternative VATSIM Pilot Client now released to the public as a beta release candidate. This pilot client is a one fits all alternative and will work with FSX, P3D and XPlane in either 32 bit Windows or 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux. This client, once installed (not for the faint of heart), also provides a capability for pilots to designate a private voice channel to allow communication with other pilots in the same voice channel. However, to do this requires a frequency over ride to be set allowing the client to ignore the set frequency instead providing text entry into a text box. Into this box the name of the voice room needs to be entered to enable voice communication. A voice room is typically in the form of "some.server.org/<ICAO>". The server component is ALWAYS "rw1.vatpac.org". So this week's departure would use "rw1.vatpac.org/ygte".
For airports without an ICAO it is typical to use VATPAC VFR Virtual voice room acccessed using 131.25 in FSINN. The equivalent for SWIFT is "rw1.vatpac.org/virtualvfr".
Altitude : Not above FL125

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.

It’s the end of the month and Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This week we are taking you from New Zealand, to Australia as we commemorate those who shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.
Fly from Wellington (NZWN) to Canberra (YSCB) and Sydney (YSSY) with full expectations of ATC Services throughout your flight!
Please Note: Depart NZWN between 06-09z. Arrival ATC will be online from 08-12z in Australia!

      Routes:
We recommend the following routes between Wellington, Canberra and Sydney.
NZWN - YSCB: TANEN M636 SASRO M636 PLUGA DCT RAZZI
NZWN - YSSY: TANEN M636 PLUGA RIKNI N774 MARLN

      Flying in Oceanic Airspace:
Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air. Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by Oceanic ATC.
All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio"
One of the significant differences between radar and oceanic flying is the need for position reports.
Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them.
      The standard format is:
Current/Previous waypoint name and the time you crossed that point. Current Flight Level Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, Flight Level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next."
You can use the Oceanic Reporting Tool to help construct oceanic position reports.
Find more information regarding Oceanic Procedures here.

      Controllers:
Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
