By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

What is Regionals and Twins?
Taking the focus off major airports and the big jets, Regionals and Twins celebrates both Australia's vast network of inland and outback hubs and the aircraft that service them.
You'll need a prop, turbo-prop or small business jet to get in and out of most of the places visited in a Regionals and Twins event but you'll get to enjoy some spectacular scenery as you cruise along at low levels. Controllers are also taken out of their comfort zone as ATC often sees procedural positions.
This week's Details
This month we'll be focusing on Hamilton island, Hamilton island is an airport 500nm to the north of Brisbane, its main purpose is to service the Whitsunday Islands, with a 1,764 meter long runway. This airport provides a great approach and good destination- especially for slower aircraft which can admire the beauty of this tourist destination.

Welcome to the latest VATPAC Iron Mic attempt featuring Cairns. Cairns receives several RPT, charter and GA flights every day from a variety of major and regional cities within Australia and select international destinations. With fantastic scenery by ORBX, it's the perfect location for both GA and Jet traffic so make sure our controllers are working hard.
The following positions will be the primary positions:
CS_TWR
CS_APP
BN-TBP_CTR
To give us the best chance possible, please logon to the above positions at Cairns prior to occupying others. Remember, There are no reserved positions so if one of the above positions is available, logon!
What is Iron Mic?
Iron Mic is a weekly competition that VATSIM holds which recognizes a position with the most hours logged on the network. It is broken into 3 categories; TWR, APP and CTR. The position in each category that logs the most online hours over a 7 day period wins the Iron Mic.
Iron Mic runs from 0000Z on Monday (1000 AEST) to 2359Z Sunday (0959 Monday AEST).
How do we know about our progress?
Click on this link (http://fsmine.dhis.org/stats/showstats.cgi) to view all the VATSIM ATC stats for the week.
Remember, Our aim is to keep the TWR, APP and CTR positions open as much as possible. Coordinate with other controllers to ensure maximum coverage of the Cairns positions. You can do this on Facebook, Discord or the forums.
We have setup a special Iron Mic Coordination text channel on Discord to make it easier to coordinate coverage with your fellow controllers.
VATSIM has set out a few rules regarding Iron Mic which can be viewed here https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11100
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Good Luck VATPAC!

World Discovery Flight for 25th July 2018
ROCKY MOUNTAIN AIRPORT TOUR created by Peter Smith YMA489
A very hard flight plan in common GA Aircraft. I flew this with a Carenado B58. VFR Flight with wild swings in Altitudes. Maintain 16000 feet for most of the flight to and from the airports. You will have to fly around mountains on approaches with steep short field finals. GPS flight plan is just a guide. You will have to follow the mountain passes from some airports in order to attain sufficient altitude (in some cases). Don't wimp out! Max load your plane. I have broken this flight up into 3 Legs, the most difficult take off is at Buckhorn Ranch and the toughest area between airports is from KASE to KEGE.
Depart from KDRO and finish the final leg at KHDN
Leg 1 KDRO C24 C08 2CO2
Flight Details: Leg 1
Flight Plan for FSX, PlanG and X11 Flight Plan Leg 1
Aircraft: Default Baron 58 so we all fly the same aircraft.
Scenery: Recommended but not mandatory Orbx NA Freeware Airfields, Orbx Global Base and Orbx North America OLC
Weather: Fair/Spring (it gets pretty bad up here)

Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.
Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.
