Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients.

0You know it’s the end of the month when Spilled Milk Run Monday is back on the calendar. This Easter, we are bringing back the popular Easter Egg Hunt! On the 1st of April, depart Sydney in search of 3 easter eggs at three differrent airports inside the great state of New South Wales.
The first pilot to identify, fly to and land at each airport wins!
Hints for where these airports will be released on the VATPAC Discord.
Edition Details:
The Idea of this Edition of Spilled Milk Run Monday is similar to the Easter Egg Hunt we did last year. From 0800z, one hint will be released every 30 minutes on the VATPAC Discord providing 3 different hints, one for each of the three different airport locations. Pilots then depart Sydney in search for the airports. Once a pilot lands at the airport they believe the Easter egg is at, they take a screenshot and post it in the VATPAC Discord's Event Channel. The first pilot to correctly land and take a screenshot at each airport wins!
Pilots and controllers must follow the relevant criteria below in order to be eligible to win a prize!
Edition Details:
thanks to the generous donations of some of the VATPAC staff, there will be four prizes up for grabs during the Easter egg hunt. The prizes are as follows:
Pilots: 3 x €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Vouchers - 1 per airport Controllers: 1 x €10 ($15AUD) simMarket Gift Voucher - all eligible controllers will be added to a draw and randomly selected to win the prize. In order to be eligible to win one of the prizes pilots and controllers must follow the following procedures:
Pilots:
All pilots must depart Sydney (YSSY) and remain online and connected for the duration of the flight Pilots must not use any sim rate enhancement at any time. Doing so will automatically result in disqualification. Pilots must follow all controller instructions and not take purposeful shortcuts or refuse sequencing to try and shorten the duration of their flight. VATPAC events staff, senior staff and directors are not eligible to win pilot prizes. Pilots must not use high performance aircraft to reduce their flights duration. This includes fighter jets, high altitude / speed airliners such as the Concorde, or any other aircraft purposely chosen for an unrealistic speed advantage. Upon arrival at the chosen airfield, pilots must post a screenshot on the VATPAC discord #events channel showing their simulator, and a tracking software (Volanta, Simaware) with the flight plan showing the whole flight and tag an event coordinator. Pilots are only eligible to receive one (1) prize. Pilot can only depart Sydney once the first hint is released. All flights to correct airports will be closely tracked by Event Coordinators. If a member of the events team believes your flight was not in observance of the above criteria, or that you had any form of unfair advantage, they may deem you ineligible to receive a prize.
Controllers:
All rostered and unrostered controllers who contributed for at least one hour will be considered for the prize Controllers not active for the duration of their rostered period (without a valid excuse) will be ineligible for the draw Controllers who already received a pilot prize will not be eligible for the draw At the close of the event the winners of each category will be announced.
Controllers:
Controllers who wish to control a position during this event are encouraged to apply here. Positions that do not have a controller online (i.e. no controller controlling the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
BN-ARL_CTR ML-YWE_CTR ML-BIK_CTR
SY_APP SY_TWR SY_GND SY_DEL *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the Standard positions are filled. Please see a member of Staff, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorized.

0This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 3rd April 2024 takes us to the Caribbean flying an island hop from Point-a-Pitre in French Gaudeloupe (TFFR) to the famous Princess Juliana Int'l in the Netherland Antilles (TNCM).
Highlights will be two of the most dangerous airfields in the world, Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) on St Barthelemy Island with a very steep arrival and the other being Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport on the island of SABA which is only 400 metres in length.
Approaches in to Gustaf III Airport (TFFJ) can use either rwy 10 (left hand pattern) or rwy 28 (also left hand pattern). The arrival using rwy 10 is very steep which makes it quite dangerous. NB: rwy 28 can only be used for full stop arrivals so any T&G's will have to use rwy 10, the steep one). Airport is open to all traffic however note aircraft type required. Refer link for details.
Approaches into SABA (TNCS) can use either rwy 12 (Lefthand pattern) or Rwy 30 (Right hand pattern). Runways both have an “X” at each end however this just represents the fact that the airport is closed to all but specific licenced traffic. Refer link for details.
