      VATPAC Launches Discord Trial   04/18/2018

      The VATPAC Board is excited to announce a community trial of Discord as an alternative voice communication client to Teamspeak. The purpose of this trial is to establish whether a new permanent voice client will be used. The trial will last for a period of twelve (12) months during which the Teamspeak and Discord will work side by side to ensure no disruption to any activities. During this time, we encourage the use of both clients so that we can gather as much feedback as possible from a large variety of members.    To assist you in installing and setting up Discord, we have created a tutorial available on the VATPAC website. If you already have Discord, you can connect to our server by clicking here.   The 12-month trial may be reduced or extended by a unanimous Board vote and after consultation with the community through the forums. If the decision to reduce is made, and we officially deem discord to be the preferred chat medium, Teamspeak will nevertheless remain available, with reduced capacity for the whole of the initial 12 month period.    The VATPAC Teamspeak & Discord policy has been updated to reflect these changes and in accordance with the review schedule.     Communications : Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained via this link.
    For pilots connecting to VATSIM using VPilot, there is a work around that enables these pilots to also take advantage of online voice CTAF. Refer to this informative VATPAC Forum post to learn how to implement the work around.
    Altitude : Remain below Launceston Class C and D steps until cleared by any active ATC to enter the zone
