With another year comes another rendition of one of VATPAC’s most popular events – Panic Stations. No matter the aircraft or departure airport, this event is sure to please your inner control freak.
On the 12th of March, 1913, Canberra was officially named as Australia’s new capital city, beating out both Melbourne and Sydney. Almost exactly 108 years later, we invite you to the Bush Capital for a beautiful and challenging arrival through the Brindabella Ranges, with full ATC expected between 0900z and 1200z.

Event Details:
Panic Stations is a simple, yet quite challenging event. Get as many aircraft flying to the destination airport as possible, with only one objective. Arrive at or after the target time to enjoy bragging rights... Well, until the next panic stations event that is!
For this round, VATPAC will be returning to the traditional Panic Stations format that we know the community has grown to love over the past decade!
Available titles for people to win during this event;
1x JET and 1x NON-JET Winner Touchdown time for this event is 1030z
Expect delays as we try and accommodate everyone whilst maintaining separation standards! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Routes:
To make it easier both on you and us, we recommend the following routes for flying into Canberra. We have included the STAR you can expect at the end of the recommended route. This may be changed by the controller depending on traffic flow.

Spotlight Series : NZA Simulations YMHB & YCBG For MSFS | 30MAR21 (0800z - 1200z)
Fly into or depart from either Hobart Airport (YMHB) or Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG) from Melbourne (YMML & YMEN) or Launceston (YMLT) and experience the latest flight simulation has to offer.

The spotlight series will showcase new simulator products like planes, scenery and utilities from all simulators and clients. This semi-regular event will follow closely after the release of these new products giving you a great chance to experience these products in all their glory. This week we are exploring the newly released YMHB and YCBG airports for MSFS. Don't fear we will feature the latest addons from X-Plane and Prepar3D when they are released, and you definitely don't require these addons to participate.

Who are NZA Simulations?
NZA Simulations which stands for New Zealand Australia Simulations, is a development team consisting of 6 developers, 5 of which are from the Oceanic Region and active members within VATPAC and VATNZ. Starting development soon after the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, NZA Simulations released a series of freeware community-based sceneries for places like Kalgoorlie-Boulder (YPKG) and Rotorua (NZRO) to mention a few. Known for their detailed interiors and stunning PBR NZA Simulations have brought Hobart International Airport (YMHB) and Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG) both into stunning detail with their payware scenery debut.

Hobart International Airport (YMHB) & Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG)
Hobart Airport (YMHB) is Tasmania’s gateway passenger airport, with over 60% of all domestic travel into the state. Located within minutes of Hobart's second airport, Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG), the airport offers stunning views as both arriving and departing flight paths are over the water. NZA's representation includes over 8800 hand places objects with 41 unique custom buildings and a fully modelled terminal interior and Skybus.

Cambridge Aerodrome (YCBG) is the home of general aviation in Southern Tasmania. Today, it is the base of Par Avion, which specialises in day trips and scenic flights around Hobart and the South West Wilderness of Tasmania and flight training. NZA's representation includes over 6140 hand-placed objects, 57 unique custom buildings and 2 custom C172 Par Avion liveries.

Navigation: Pilots are encouraged to navigate visually. For those less familiar the GPS flight plan is the recommended method of navigation.
      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.
