Today we are introducing you to one of VATPAC's newest events - East Coast Connect! Whether you like to fly IFR in a commercial jet or small turboprop, or VFR in a smaller private aircraft, this is the event for you. Enjoy the beautiful scenery that NSW and the Gold Coast offer within your simulators!

What is East Coast Connect?
Similar to Milk Run Monday, East Coast Connect is where pilots fly between Sydney Kingsford Smith (YSSY) and Brisbane International Airport (YBBN). Expect full ATC Coverage between 0800z and 1200z, as we attempt to fill the MDE and DOS airspace with as many aircraft as possible!

Routes:
We recommend the following routes for you to fly during this event; however, you are more than welcome to fly to different aerodromes within the coverage area!

Rostering Trial:
During September & October, the events team will be trialling a rostering system for this event. The roster will be released on the Wednesday before the event. Positions that are not rostered (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
Controllers who wish to reserve a position to control during this event are encouraged to apply via https://events.vatpac.org/. After the controller roster is released on Wednesday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster.
Feedback about this trial can be directed to [email protected] or via https://feedback.vatpac.org/.

By far the most popular of our regular weekly events, on any given Milk Run Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with our Spilled Milk Run Monday events, details of which can be found on the Spilled Milk Run page, the Milk Run invites you to fly in any direction between Sydney and Melbourne and all destinations in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Prefer to control? We recommend getting in early. ATC positions on Milk Run Monday are often scarce so definitely worth being an early bird.
Traffic levels traditionally start to pick up at around 7:30pm AEST / AEDT and generally peak between 8:30pm and 9:30pm AEST / AEDT.

The VATPAC Events Department is proud to announce another edition of one of our most popular events - Panic Stations! Whether you fly a C172, B737 or A330, if you enjoy being on time, every time, then this is the event for you!
Once again, we are putting an exciting twist on the usual event, by hosting it in a procedural environment, with two touchdown times and prizes to be won!!!! Take a scenic flight up to Alice Springs (YBAS) with an expectation to have full ATC services between 0900z and 1200z!

Event Details:
Panic Stations is a simple yet challenging event. Get as many aircraft flying to the destination as possible, with only one objective: Arrive at or after the target times, to enjoy bragging rights... Until the next panic stations event that is! 😏
VATPAC is putting another spin on this event. Unlike last time, there will be two target arrival times and prizes for the winner of each time!!
Touch Down Times for this event are 1000z & 1100z
We recommend that pilots bring extra holding fuel for this event, as we attempt to accommodate all pilots, whilst controllers attempt to maintain a larger separation standard than usual!
We look forward to seeing you all on the tarmac at Alice Springs!

Prizes:
To add yet another exciting twist to this event, the VATPAC Events team has been in contact with ORBX and are extremely happy to announce that ORBX will be providing three prizes for this event!
For Pilots: Two prizes will be on offer. To win an award, you must be the aircraft to arrive (touch down) at or just after the target arrival time. Each touchdown time has one prize that will be awarded.
For Controllers: The controller who receives the most positive feedback from the community will receive the third prize! Feel free to plug https://feedback.vatpac.org/ to the pilots transitioning your airspace!!! (Make sure to select Events Department as the Department you are writing too!)
You have to be in it to win it!!!
The following prizes are available to Pilots and Controllers:
Global Upgrades Collection Bundle (P3D) Global openLC Collection Bundle (P3D) TrueEarth Great Britain Collection Bundle (XPlane) TrueEarth US Collection Bundle (XPlane) Each winner will be able to select one of the above prizes to redeem.
If you are lucky enough to win, you will immediately be contacted by VATPAC5 to redeem your reward!
To help us choose a winning controller, we need both pilots and controllers to submit feedback at feedback.vatpac.org and (if able) include the controller's name, CID and controlling position!

Routes:
VATPAC recommends the following routes to fly into Alice Springs. These are only some of the possible departure points you could use! Note: All aircraft will be routed via ARNTU or ANZAC into Alice Springs, so we request you plan via either of those waypoints!
YSSY -> YBAS:
ROUTE: TESAT KADOM A576 POLEV ANZAC AS

ATC:
Controllers interested in controlling for the event are encouraged to submit their ATC Applications here. Applications will remain open until five days before the event date, of which the roster will be compiled on the website.
The number of ATC positions available to the pilots will depend on the number of ATC Applications. The positions that are planned to be rostered are below. Note: *NS* is Non-Standard Positions which will be rostered based on controller availability and position requirements.

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery

Welcome to the next installment of Newbie Night. This event offers the chance for inexperienced members to join experienced aviators and controllers and take to the virtual skies. Whether you're completely new to flight simulation or you've been flying for years but never connected to the VATSIM network, this is the night for you with plenty of people available to help on the VATPAC Discord. To Join the Discord visit this link.

      Event Details:
Fly between Adelaide (YPAD) and Melbourne (YMML) in either direction to experience Class C and enroute airspace, with a bit of time to relax in cruise and enjoy the scenery. This flight is for:
Newbie pilots who want to learn and gain confidence flying on the VATSIM network with live ATC. Experienced controllers who are patient and willing to help newbie pilots on the network. Experienced pilots who are patient and willing to assist newbie pilots through the VATPAC Discord. Flights will depart from 0800z (1800 AEST) with ATC requested/available until around 1200z (2200 AEST).
We recommend planning to depart before 1030z (2030 AEST) to complete your flight with full ATC.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot.
